Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda agree joint visa to promote tourism

With much respect, I don't think the move is driven by hate. Tanzanians have time and again deplored the 'hasty' integration process. The local mood is that integration is best done at a pace that will not result in Tz being at a disadvantage. Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda on the other hand want integration yesterday. The recent action might be a blessing in disguise for Tz because it will open a window into what such integration details, and allow for appropriate adjustments to be made before jumping in.
On Burundi, what most ppl don't seem to realise is that Kenya and Burundi had a no visa requirement - agreement with each other long before Burundi even joined the EAC.

A population of 45+ million people with less than 10% of it having a buying power is just useless. We'd rather empower the 5M people to be consumers

Hivi single visa kwa watalii itasaidia vipi kuongeza idadi ya watalii
Wale wanao support watujuze wataje sababu zao then tutafanya mchanganuo

Kwangu mie ni ule ule ujanja wa kudanganya wazungu wasio jua geography kuwa Mt. Kilimanjaro upo kenya !!!!

Kwani who complained?
Hongereni sana. Mbuga zetu za kaskazini zinaharibika kwa overflow ya watalii, hadi imetulazimu kuongeza fees na kushusha fees za maeneo mengine ya utalii ili kubadili mwelekeo!
Perfect, stop complaining then and move on.

you are the most narrow minded kenyan. you are confined in your little kirinyaga you dont know what is happening in the outside. Ask your fellow kenyans who have the bits of TZ populance and purchase power (and especially the business community) they will educate you on the negative impact you stupid, arrogance and murderer president is building up.

go ask these banks....Commercial Bank of Africa, Equity, KCB, BOA----they might give you an insight on how your president's move is politically, socially and most importantly ECONOMICALLY STUPID

EAC protocol demands that any discussion related to the agreement on Customs union, Free Trade area, Common Market, Economic union and POLITICAL FEDERATION must be jointly discussed by all member states.....can you say anything why or which (especially the POLITICAL FEDERATION part which has been assigned to Uganda by Uhuru and Kagame) clause within the EAC agreement allows them to sideline two other member states?

And these are your two cents, if size was the issue doesn't Greenland offer a much better option?

have you thought of habitation by wild animal or human being before posting this scrap?

crabat,

in all the threads about EAC I have been involved in since i started on JF, Tanzania seem to think kenya will benefit most...however, part of your team tend to suggest this but have never explanations as to how kenya will benefit more than the rest of the countries.... apart from the ujanja ujanja and cooperating with the 'nyangau'..not any other sensible reason apart from suspicion.

My understanding is that tz's fear of entering into EAC deal with the rest of EA countries is, the critical land factor......which is the suspicion they had from the beggining about kenyans...it was understandable initially, EAC was commissioned by three head of states...but now there are four other notable applicants..rwanda, ssudan, burundi, and somalia, but these nations are or have before been affected by, drought, famine, terrorism, or war...

This case means Tz is looking forward to create ties with burundi as historically they have hosted burundian refugees...but such a projection is like mirage because tz and burundi are not 'tied' together by any factors either not even cultural, or even social.

TZ uses these points as a scapegoat...but it will be ultimately stupid not to learn from a war torn somalia neighbourong kenya..if Tz will be happy to see themselves remain, and every EAC country including kenya disintergrate due to instabilty, they do not know the long-term effects of an insecure/war torn.... neighbour. Instabilty and clan conflict has periodically rocked NFD, because militia could walk in and out the country and stage attacks on communities at any time ......often such unstable countries act as passages for illicit weapons and other illegal 'stuff'

.......infatc it took KDF very long, If OLN had started way back, it would have sent a very strong signal to those overaly war-hungry militia

I know someone will start to mention Congo has been unstable for years...but that has been purely as a result of a Tanzania vs rwanda conflict within DRC

That right there is a little bit far fetched mkuu mwenzangu.

Time for a highway across Serengeti to start the stupid onslaught by Kenyatta can be met by simple tactical moves by Tanzania since Tanzania owns Kenya economical and geographical strategic location! Also ban the maize transport to Kenya as hunger is looming....i tell u Kenya will grow negative if Tanzania deploy the same greedy tactics Kenyatta is instituting take that to the bank...

It's a fact that most East African would prefer to enter and work in Tanzania then the rest of East African Countries. The environment and Opportunity available attract many east African to come and work in Tanzania. Also the peaceful atmosphere makes Dar es Salaam hot cake for job seekers and settlers.
Very few Tanzanians have ambitions to work in Kenya and Uganda .The tribalism in Kenya makes difficult for non Kenyans to get employed even if ones is qualified. So apart from agreements by member states there is a problem of culture and tribalism which would make Tanzanian not to benefits
Single visa for tourism entry is ok as some tourists in Europe and other areas would like to visit 2 or more countries when they come to East African. However this arrangement needs comprehensive talk to reach into a suitable agreement. They are issue of security. We all know so many people with UK passports have entered into Kenya and were implicated on terrorism so this issue as Tanzanian we must address
Issue concerning how the visa fees would be monitored and distributed accordingly to member states and on what formaula?
Most international airlines prefer Nairobi as their hub and if single tourist visa is establish the will shall see all other airline stop in Nairobi and this will deny other countries revenues and air transport
UK and Ireland have not agreed on schengen visa because they know they will receive bogus tourists who would not leave UK.
The same problem we are facing thousands of immigrants from Eretria, Ethiopia and Somali are apprehended every month in Tanzania. These illegal Immigrants are allowed without problem to pass through Kenya to Tanzania!!!!! Now imagine if we have single visa and at the same time ID are used to pass through borders….how many wakimbizi tutapokea?
Another area where Kenyans are pushing is entry of south Sudan, this is new country and very poor but Kenyan are pushing as they only look on one side they have industries and south Sudan have nothing therefore its readymade market of their goods and the share border with south Sudan so it's another advantage for them . It's not easy for Tanzanian to enter into Sudan and trade. Kenyan is pushing this issue even though they know that there is security concerned from juba. Integrating these people who have been fighting for the last 30 years and still fighting would jeopardize our peace.
First you must keep your house in order, make sure that security is improved and make sure tribalism has no room in EAC .

If these member states where realistic then they should device a formula to share the visa fee revenues or scrap all together! I don't see why should Tanzania joint the fray while it is all known the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Zanzibar and the Kilimanjaro ecological value are comparable to none in the region! Therefore that should have not been bypassed as it stand now! Qatar partnership with Easyjet would have given KQ a run for her money with a positive competition but unfortunately with the exception of Kigali till today Easyjet can not land in Entebbe, Mombasa and Nairobi from Dar and yet these fools are branding Tanzania as protectionist country while we know greedy countries like Rwanda and Uganda have nothing to lose as no one makes a trip from overseas to see a gorilla they need to supplement what they have

Sour grapes, the arrangement doesn't have anything to do with Tanzania; why don't you take your time and reflect why its any of your business?
Do the countries have to consult the mighty Tanzania before implementing policies they deem fit for their countries?

have you thought of habitation by wild animal or human being before posting this scrap?

I had forgotten that Tanzania is the only country with wildlife

Way to go with SADC, and lets do away with Protectionists Kenya and align ourselves with SADC

Sep 01, 2013JOHANNESBURG, South Africa - South African Airways' low cost airline Mango on Sunday launched its scheduled flights between Johannesburg and Zanzibar.
This was the airline's first expansion beyond SA borders, Mango CEO Nico Bezuidenhout said in a statement.
He said the Johannesburg-Zanzibar schedule operation came after almost eight months of successful charter operations.
"The success of the charter operation over the past couple of months served as a litmus test for the scheduled service," he said.
Launch fares start from R2 880 all inclusive.
Flight tickets could also be purchased on store charge cards.
"Edcon group account holders will be able to purchase flights online and through our call centre with packaged holidays available by the end of the year," said Bezuidenhout.

Johannesburg - Following months of speculation about Mango's plans to expand its route network to incorporate regional destinations, the low-cost carrier has applied for rights to launch direct flights from Johannesburg to both Zanzibar and Kilimanjaro.

Tourism Update reports that the application, to be considered by the International Air Services Council, was published in the Government Gazette earlier this month.

Mango has applied for three return flights per week from OR Tambo to both Zanzibar and Kilimanjaro. Hein Kaiser, Mango Communications Manager, confirmed that the airline was in the process of applying for a scheduled operations regional licence.

Mango currently operates weekly charters to Zanzibar in association with African Stays. He added, however, that at this time "any new route or network expansion plans are speculative. It would be fair to say that we are presently considering several regional destinations".

Tunawatakia kila raheli, na mafanikio yenye fanaka. Ila Tz hatutaki, that's it, nothing less nothing more.

South sudan, is a very new country and has emerged from a crisis. According to its location on the map it will be useless for tz to grumble against kenya being close to S. Sudan. SS having no infrastructure, it has twice the cost of transporting goods or even setting up anything within its borders. that is where the lappset projects comes in to the picture to enable connectivity.

As people from all over the world move into South sudan to build it the better, and.... i do'nt know if you really understand the current sudanese scenario very well...already there are companies existing there KCB, EQUITY, total and other international companies.

i look at Rwanda's distance from Tanzania, and beg to ask how many Tanzanian companies exist within rwanda???...can we get a count... if there are few tanzanian investments in rwanda..who is to blame? is it the EA citizens or is the system Tz applying ineffective..

recently after planes were re-routed to rwanda and ugandan airports from JKIA after an inferno, a few tanzanians here at JF complained about those measures..supposing these are business minded pple;..you do not need to ask what a selfish thougth by a self centred person is capable of doing.... that in itself speaks volumes how deep the region can sink if the economic system is affected.

ironically, If rwanda was able to come up and recover from it's state after the genocide, then many postive comments should be made on the same about S sudan,

FYI, As instabilty rages ijn S SUdan remember there are civilians that need goods and services. temporarily, for any one accessing SSudan it will b convinenit, for them to go for a cheaper option of transporting goods and services. if it is cheaper via uganda, then it is automatic for anyone transporting goods to go tthere...if it is cheaper to do it in nairobi...automatically.they will opt for NBI...

There is no need of condemning anyone on the fact that they are at an advantageous postion. I know some unscrupulous fellows thrust themselves to such position by all means...but these are every where in every place...but remember the more SSudan Somalia and all other conflict prone areas in EA (congo CAR) recover, the more we get the benefits of a safer EA economically, even politically stable.

Most of these conflicts have been with us, so do not pin any unnecessary weaknesses like terror etc... to any state as these grew as a result of other stabller nations watching and lauching probably thinking they were safe not forgettting in 1998 dar-es-salaam was not spared by osama bin laden..

Shukran kwa darasa mkuu mwenzangu.
