-

More than fifty people were on Tuesday arrested in Nairobi following the Saba Saba demonstrations.
The protesters engaged police in running battles in most parts of the city as some were condemning police excesses in handling civilians.
Nairobi Police Commander Philip Ndolo however said the activists did not inform the relevant authorities about their plan to take to the streets.
Mr. Ndolo said those who were arrested would be released on cash bail but will be required report to police stations on Wednesday from where they will be taken to court to answer to charges of illegal gathering.
He added that those who have no cash to pay for bail will be released on free bond but will also appear in court.
The police boss said the move to release the suspects was taken following the government’s containment measures of the COVID-19 pandemic.
