Kenya – Why would you look into nuclear power with your geothermal resources?

Kenya – Why would you look into nuclear power with your geothermal resources?

I say nuclear all the way. But first the authorities (KETRACO) should seriously upgrade transmission lines which are so 1890s , and seriously do underground cabling. Also the plant should be in northern kenya.

If Kenya was ignoring geothermal potential in favor of nuclear the article would make sense, its not

I heard they require much water for cooling.

It Requires huge amounts of water for cooling and that is why coast was chosen. Out of the four, another one is planned to be built in Turkana.

For sure, the cabling by Kenya power (Not Kentraco, as Kentraco uses high voltage cables on pylons high in the sky) KPC Should burry all town cables they become an eye sore

Most green energy facilities have very little mw output for every penny invested. Take this comparison:-

Kenya has so far invested $3bn in geothermal since 1981 producing 636mw of electricity. South Africa on the other hand invested $7.5bn in medupi coal plant producing 4800mw of electricity

This clearly shows that geothermal though clean is very costly to build. To industrialize, we'll need coal and nuclear plants
