***Kenya has in 2016 recorded the largest growth in tourist bookings globally, says American-based luxury travel network Virtuoso.
The agency boasts 390 members and more than 11,400 elite travel advisors in 40 countries across North America, Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Africa and the Middle East.
Virtuoso said Kenya scored 59 per cent, followed by Iceland (56), Saint Martin (39), China (35), Ecuador (34), Japan (32), South Africa (28), Tanzania (27), Croatia (25) and Jamaica 23 per cent to close the top 10 list.
The firm, which has affiliations with 1,700 hotels and resorts, cruise lines, airlines, tour companies and premier destinations, said Africa enjoyed a steady rise in tourist arrivals during summer, with a commanding 28 per cent.
In Nairobi, the Kenya Tourism Federation (KTF) signed a partnership with British Airways that will see clients of the federation enjoy a 13-17 per cent discounted air fare for every online purchase of a ticket between now and end of May 2017.
MARKET KENYA ABROAD
Acting KTF chief executive Susan Ongalo described the initiative as timely, saying KTF members would now market Kenya abroad and inform their clients of the subsidised rates.
She said tourists would enjoy lower charges as many hotels, tour operators and travel agents had initiated a cost-reduction incentive for repeat clients.
Virtuoso’s findings were announced during the annual Virtuoso Travel Week in Las Vegas last week on Tuesday evening, attended by travel agency members from the United States and Canada.
Virtuoso commands nearly half of the Sh3.55 trillion tourism revenues.
It said Kenya was among the “hottest” upscale holiday destinations in 2016, owing to its exclusive amenities, rare experiences and privileged access.
Virtuoso added that Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa rank high as investment destinations and stand to experience a 17 per cent rise in tourist arrivals.
“Luxury travellers are seeking out more exotic locales worldwide, including a boom for Africa,” it said.

The Top 10 analysis: While Europe continues to dominate the list of favored destinations with eight of the 10 countries, the network’s sales to the continent are flat when compared to summer 2015. In particular, France, led by Paris, has rebounded nicely and remains strong. Overall, European countries offering great value to travelers are seeing spikes. Bookings to the Netherlands are up 38 percent this summer over last, with Virtuoso’s partner hotels showing average daily rates (ADR) 44 percent lower than the European average of $793 per night. Ireland’s ADR is 31 percent lower than the European average, leading it to see a 58 percent jump in bookings. Travelers visiting Ireland are flocking to Dublin and Galway in particular, along with county Laois in the center of the country.

South Africa is also up from 2015’s summer bookings; together the two countries represent 80 percent of Virtuoso’s travel to Africa. Portugal is also up significantly, with travel to the Azores of particular interest. Its hotel ADR is also favorable for travelers at 58 percent lower than the European average. Of the European countries, it’s exhibiting the strongest growth year over year,
although Ireland, Russia, the Netherlands, Sweden and Poland also rate slots on the Hot 10. Brazil is seeing a big boost due to the Summer Olympics, being held August 5-21. there are 4 seasons which cincidentally fall tourist seasons, especially in western countries where seasons change variably, there is spring,summer,autum(fall),winter.... if you look at that website virtuose, they have dived each season by 4 months, jan-march/april, april-june/july.....
the data which TTB chose to use this august is from April2016 (if they wanted to use that, they should have done it in april when it was summer season in western countries)......
the best season to visit kenya is after mid year, this is when there is wildbeast migration also the beaches are warm around july,august,sept....... this is the data that KTB is using, it was releast just 6 days ago by virtuose in that connference quoted above there.... the kenyan media plus KTB have thus released timely acurate data, unlike TTB which is now choosing to shout to capitalise on data which is past its halflife, its old news..... its fall season in western countries, and in this fall kenya recorded 59% increased bookings just after travel advisories were lifted a year ago in most parts at the kenyan coast exept for anywhere north of malindi including lamu.

there are 4 seasons which cincidentally fall tourist seasons, especially in western countries where seasons change variably, there is spring,summer,autum(fall),winter.... if you look at that website virtuose, they have dived each season by 4 months, jan-march/april, april-june/july.....
the data which TTB chose to use this august is from April2016 (if they wanted to use that, they should have done it in april when it was summer season in western countries)......
the best season to visit kenya is after mid year, this is when there is wildbeast migration also the beaches are warm around july,august,sept....... this is the data that KTB is using, it was releast just 6 days ago by virtuose in that connference quoted above there.... the kenyan media plus KTB have thus released timely acurate data, unlike TTB which is now choosing to shout to capitalise on data which is past its halflife, its old news..... its fall season in western countries, and in this fall kenya recorded 59% increased bookings just after travel advisories were lifted a year ago in most parts at the kenyan coast exept for anywhere north of malindi including lamu.
