Kenyaforum: Who is your best conversationalist?.

There goes typical Mwanzi. You just reinforced my assertions about you (ànd you're really old oops!)

You see, based on your stereotypical knowledge, Kenyans do cash crops and die of hunger. If you had been to Kenya you'd understand better.

You people confuse importing food with dying of hunger lol. Qatar which is the richest country in the world in terms of average wealth imports almost all of its food requirements - does that make Qatar poor? nope.

Kenya is the largest producer of horticulture and second largest producer of milk in Africa. In case you didn't know, horticulture is mainly food. Kenya however suffers shortage of maize every year (which we import comfortably and fulfil our needs) and the reason isn't what you want people to believe but simply because maize is a field crop - you can't grow it economically on small pieces of land. 80% of Kenya's land can't support maize, the remaining 20% that can has to be shared with other crops, human settlements and forest reserves. That Kenya is capable of meeting over 80% of its maize requirements every year is already a feat to be proud of.

Kenya is not run by only 1% of the population - that's another stereotype instilled in Tanzanians by Nyerere. In any case, Kenya has a higher HDI than Tanzania - in case you didn't know, HDI takes care of the whole population not just the total economy. Kenya had 8600 millionaires in 2016 with no Forbes billionaire while Tz had 5700 millionaires with one Indian billionaire. Considering our GDP at $78 billion is moving towards doubling your GDP of $46 billion with a bigger population, I wonder what spirits make you believe the average Tanzanian has it better than the average Kenyan.

Here you are, one of the biggest mistake that most Kenyans make when they discuss issues related to Kenya economic criss is to use atypical examples, how can you relate Kenya with Qatar in importation of food but not comparing these two countries their climate conditions?. Qatar is desert 100%, and its economy doesn't depend on agriculture, therefore they import food 100%.

Kenya economy is agriculture based by 80%, it is not only expected to produce enough food for its people, but also to export to other countries, it is only 40% of Kenya land which is desert and unfit for agriculture activities, 60% can support, and with irrigation programs, this percentage can be increased.

Again is not true that field agriculture is not possible, Kenya is leading for production of black tea, do you plant it in greenhouses?, there are big farms belongs to whites producing "Nanasi" for their juice making industries.

Kenya having about 8700 millionaires and Tanzania 5600, and Tanzania having unemployment rate of 26% while Kenya 48%, Kenyans people are dying of hunger while Tanzanians have more than what they need to eat, Kenya having bigger and many slums in Africa, Tanzania has no single slums, Kenya even water is big problem.

This shows you that, Kenya economy is concentrated to the top few people, while Tanzania has fewer millionaire and the rest of GDP goes down to the common mwanainchi, no wonder Tanzania is leading in Inclusive economy while Kenya is leading as the most ruthless economy in Africa.

You are telling blatant lies my friend, your Tanzanian comrades should be ashamed for you!

Kenya is in fact 83% arid with only the remaining 17% arable, and supporting well over 85 of the almost 50million citizens of the country.

Kenya Arable land as a share of land area, 1960-2017 - knoema.com

Kenya cannot afford to dedicate such a miniscule land solely on maize cultivation, it wouldnt be able to earn foreign revenue given that it isnt blessed with substantial minerals that it can export to support the economy.

The reason I won't engage you is because you're stupid and uninformed.

1. Kenya exports food.

2. NO ONE dies of hunger in Kenya.

3. For two DIFFERENT things to be compared, they have to be DIFFERENT that's why they're compared in the first place.

4. Tanzania DOES NOT have an unemployment rate of 26% and Kenya DOES NOT have an unemployment rate of 46%. Unemployment rate figures are subjective i.e - depends on ones definition of employment. Just because you read some piece of a shady journalist's article back in 2015 that says that doesn't make your gullibility true.

5. 70% of Dar is a slum. Stop living in Utopia.

Please, go back to school and come back. I could take a nice engagement from a more informed mind.

No one asks you to dedicate all land for maize, but you must make sure that, those cash crops can give you enough money to cater for food, remember food is the first basic need before anything else.

It is a big shame for a country to feed the world with black tea, but when it comes to your food, people are dying of hunger, there are many countries with less arable land than Kenya, but they don't get problem of hunger, why always Kenya?.

You produce what you don't consume, and you consume what you don't produce. When it is a black tea and Nanasi for whites, then Kenya has enough arable land, when is maize then the land is not enough.

1)Kenya GDP is not $70B, it is cooked one as it is known world wide that you cooked the data.
2)Kenyans are dying of hunger every year, according to WFP and UNICEF, this year 3.5M Kenyans face starvation
3)Kenya unemployment is 48% and Tanzania is 26%, this is according to WB report 2017, not according to Kibera report.
4) Only 8300 Kenyans own 62% of your cooked GDP, while Tanzania leads Sub Sahara Africa on Inclusive economy
5) With all number of millionaires you have, still drinking water is a big problem to all Kenyans.

Does that change the fact u die of hunger? And don't u think u r buying of maize is irrelevant to us as things r pretty normal after a maize export ban.

My brother, many Kenyans die in Turkana and Pokot communities every year than you can imaging, Red cross and other international communities do report these deaths and takes photos but GoK keeps on denying.

It doesn't matter how much Kenya spends on maize, what is more important is that, Kenyans must have food on their tables, with corruption and nepotism at their highest levels, big portion of money intended for maize will not buy maize, and big portion of maize will not get to the intended population.

It is not easy for a country like Kenya with 48% unemployment rate, and 75% of population survives on subsistence agriculture, to depend on imported food, Government can' t afford to pay for it, and if it happens, then those unemployed and peasants can't buy it.

I didn't say Kenya's GDP is $70 billion, I said it's $78 billion.

Meanwhile, Twaweza that somebody quoted here before says 78% of Tanzanians don't have enough to eat.
Survey finds most Tanzanians go hungry, despite government denials

,.......and 35% of Tanzanian kids are stunted.

I wonder which Kenya you want me to visit, the state house Kenya or the Umoja Kenya? I know you're trying hard to justify why Kenya export cash crops and import food , but the Qatar comparison doesn't work. Qatar only have 1% of arable land, compared to 10% of Kenya. Kenya has huge cheap labour plus good amount of water reserves. The problem with Kenya food security is all comes down to land management, who has the land, how they use it, and how much is actually benefit the majority population. You've raise an argument that Kenya was not blessed with mineral like other african countries, but there countries with similar position with more harsher weather conditions than Kenya but they don't go hungry. Samuell999 use to bring somes positive ideas, elaborating how Kenya could do better than Israel or New Zealand, none of them were rocket science.

I said this before, Kenya has been left in hands of top 1% for far too long, these people have lost touch with the wider population. From Kenyatta Sr, Moi, Kibaki, kenyatta Jr are not your average man. I very doubt they truly understand the life of common mwananchi. You might come with fancy HDI numbers, some eye watering GDP numbers, but those numbers means nothing to Wainaina, Kiplagat or Odongo if they can't access cheap unga or reasonable health insurance. Kenya is doing the same mistake Nigeria have been doing for years, they export oil, import refined oil products. Kenya export tea, imports maize. Why this is happening in Kenya? Is because Mr. Richman (top 1%) is sitting on huge chunk of fertile land and he's the one decides what will be produce on that land and where it will be sold. The white settlers scattered around countryside are producing crops to feed their sibling in Europe. And you expect miracle will happen to people in Wajir they will have enough food to feed themselves.

I take only UN report, Twaweza is a Tanzanian but it still needs to grow, UN report has said it all, "With the population of 50 Million, Tanzania is food self sufficient at National level,", that is what we want to be self sufficient at National level. What do you want to tell me?
