A Kenyan poet is among the winners of the 2018 Mabati- Cornell Kiswahili Prize for African Literature to be feted next month bin Tanzania.
Jacob Ngumbau emerged victorious for His Kiswahili poetry work "moto wa kifua" (Fire of the coconut shell) and will take home a prize of sh500,000 during a ceremony to be held in Dar es salaam on February 15.

Ala kumbe Wakenya ikifika ni kiswahili ni wanoma than their Tanzagiza counterparts not only in English but also in Swahili.

Got this friend of mine who owns one of the local football junior team in East Lands. One day he requested me to accompany him to Uganda for a three day U16 football extravaganza, teams were drawn from three countries namely: Kenya Uganda and Tanzania. That's when I knew the significance of being conversant with several languages. It was amazing to see how Kenyan kids managed to make friends across the divide unlike their counterparts from Uganda and Tanzania. Language barrier can be such an impediment.

Wakenya wote hawawezi sema mwizi wanasema mwisi! hapa nimetumia akili yako

Wanasema "mwisi" but if it comes to writing they write " mwizi" but you what you write and say are the same, if it's food you call it "chakura" and then go ahead and write "chakura" again. What is that if not lack of education. One perennial example is Malissa.

Jameni tuambiane ukweli.
