Kenyan & Tanzanian Surburbs

Why not share pictures of our respective countries and instead of deriding each other we should focus on sharing what we believe makes our respective countries tick................

This kind of thinking for example that in the city of Paris they have wider streets ( Avenue de la Grande Armee) than London's Oxford street, then we conclude that we the Parisans(French) are better than British is absurd.

We must view things in a bigger picture that includes the majority of population living in suburbs like Deep Sea slums.

It is pathetic that anyone would be living in such conditions in a free society, many years after independence. That said, the original poster had indicated no slums but only 'smart' (my word) buildings that reflect the more positive side of our urban areas. Anyone with pictures of Mama Rwakatare's new mansion?

I totally agree with you. What is the first step? Close our eyes to what some have managed to achieve? Well, if say someone thinks he likes the KICC because it is round and someone else prefers the BOT towers is doesn't necessarily make one more civilised than the other one. Some of the people on this forum are the same people drawing up plans for new neighbourhoods, they sit of planning committee or work in areas where their input is valued with regard to future development. I still believe even by simply ogling and gloating at other people's architecture, or even hating it, we leave the forum richer. I have altered a couple of windows in my own house after spying on something here! Excuse me for going on and one, never know when to stop... respect!

I think it would be prudent if you began by addressing the fact on the slum situation in your own country rather than dwelling on Kenya's issues. These issues are well known in Kenya and we are working on making the conditions better for our citizen but what astounds me is you all ignore the dire situation in Tanzanian cities and the crippling poverty that has left your fellow citizen among the poorest in the world.

Your high handed approach to Kenya is symptomatic of individuals that refuse to come to terms with the reality of their being and as usual have to seek out the next to stroke their egos. In this instance, you have all been castigating Kenyans and made this forum a hotbed of xenophobes, raging with envy and resentment for Kenyans instead of addressing the issue with their own government. This forum has in essence become a launch pad for every frustrated Tanzanian. We advise you to bring up your issues with YOUR government and we assure you the toughest critic of Kenya are Kenyans.

Even when given the opportunity to show that which you claim makes your country deserving of accolades you still manage to dust off your old pictures of Kibera or Mathare and crouch over your computers for hours on end. I advise you to print, frame and put up some of these images in your living rooms if it will ease your frustrations.

On slums, most Tanzanians seem oblivious of the fact that over 66% of your compatriots call them home as you gleefully peddle the images of Kibera.

https://www.jamiiforums.com/international-forum/225394-slums-in-tanzania.html Make use of the aforementioned thread to get your high of "scenes from slums" and in that thread you will see Tanzania featuring prominently.

Otherwise you have been given an opportunity to show what makes your country tick but you are obsessed with Kenya.

So that picture of Kibera is Pathetic but the picture below of Mbagala posted by your compatriot is acceptable?

With all due respect....As a Tanzanian, I feel ashamed to be called as such. Tanzanians are people who love talking useless stuff and many things without action, well the majority are like that. We have adopted a culture of hating the truth due to fear of change or challenges and are happy with the bullshit status quo in the country.

For the majority of us, our living conditions are appalling and have turned into Bongo fleva as a savior. Now, is there a point of arguing that Dar is better than Nairobi? Dar is NOT well planned, when it rains it floods due to poor infrastructure. The city is filthy where garbage looms all over. Many Tanzanians are confused by the skyscrapers that are scattered throughout the city and actually think this is "maendeleo." How do you have maendeleo when your Government is screwing you up deliberately? Yes, I said it. Tanzania is NOT a poor country and has a potential of becoming East Africa's economic super power with the resources that we have but our leaders don't want that change instead they are busy stealing left and right and have ruined our system whereas everybody now NEVER works for the country anymore but themselves and are paid daily (bribes) depending on how fast you act, thus living the country in dire straight. Our neighbors are developing, we are going backwards and are happy with it. This country needs a change immediately if NOT tutakufa while Kikwete and friends in power continue stealing while laughin at us. In concise, Nairobi is far superior to Dar Es Salaam. We have a long way to go ndugu zangu!

Mkereketwa_Huyu,

I support your point hundred percent, Because slums have become topical issues for social discourse and tourism attractions where companies are raking millions (not forgetting hollywood stars have come to kibera) or if you like a source of funds and launchpad for young aspiring NGO companies. I have seen real cases where emerging young kenyans have made it big from slums proceeds. You will be amazed that some universities and colleges abroad (Europe and America) have coined some course studies on slum research where after completion of the course one acquires a recognizable diploma to start an NGO wherever in Africa which can be funded from abroad.

That is how serious the impact these NGOS have on slums. According to NGOS, there must remain discord or something to prolong the social discource. I am deeply saddened to know after revelations here at JF that Tz's founding father would slow progress of some fast developing communities so that the slow ones would pick up and move on with the rest pack and this is what I believe even now is slowing down regional intergration. Why would one stymie regional integration yet the gains are imense knowing our governments in EA are ridded with hypocracy, selfish politicians (who just think of their relatives) with constant vacillating course of actions that go in line with permanent western interests. Africa and in particular East africa has a potential of being africas superpower. I am now become more cynic about all those gas and oil finds (in mbawa1,Ngamia1, and Twiga!...etc...etc) until their is something substansive from those finds, I conclude that they will always remain tinkles composed to continously amuse the status-quo.

With much respect sir, I am not Kenya bashing. I simply made the remark that it is pathetic for any human(I neglected to say any human anywhere) to live in such conditions. I refer to humans anywhere. In fact my response was to the previous poster who had in his posts referred to slums. Please note that I repeated your call for pictures of smart developments. I have stated elsewhere that the thread was for nice pics too. Maybe I should polish my language. I love nice pics too and that is why I browse this thread.

Keep them pictures coming!

Kenyans should not brag a whole. Province like north eastern still resembles the 1900 settlements

hapa hakuna lolote!
