Foreign-born Africans come from all over the continent, but the most common countries of origin for African immigrants are Nigeria, Ethiopia, Egypt, Ghana and Kenya. These five countries accounted for nearly half of the foreign-born African population in the U.S in 2o13.
African immigrants are more likely to settle in the South (38%) or the Northeast (27%) than in the West (18%) or Midwest (17%), while the largest numbers of African immigrants are found in New York, California, Texas, Maryland and New Jersey. Each of these states is home to at least 100,000 foreign-born Africans.
In other states, Africans represent a higher percentage of the foreign-born population than the national average. Many African refugees from Sudan, Somalia and Ethiopia have settled in South Dakota ( Ethiopians are the largest immigrant group overall there). Africans make up 28% of South Dakota’s foreign-born population. Fueled by Minnesota’s sizable Somali-born community, 21% of the foreign-born population in that state is African. Africans account for a sizable portion of the overall immigrant population in several other areas, including Washington, D.C., Maryland and Maine

Black Immigrants in U.S. Earning 30% More than U.S. Born Blacks
As the black population in the United States grows, the diversity in the black community is unprecedented. According to new research by Nielsen, the number of black immigrants in the U.S. has more than doubled since 1980, to a record 3.8 million, accounting for 1 in every 11 blacks. By 2060, 1 out of every 6 U.S. blacks will be immigrants.
Black immigrants from Africa are driving the recent growth in immigration, accounting for 36% of the total foreign-born black population. Blacks from Nigeria and Ethiopia account for much of that growth. Still, the Caribbean population accounts for nearly 50% of all blacks, with most coming from Jamaica.
As the ‘different flavors of black’ emerge, different economies are also emerging. The Nielsen research finds that the median household income for foreign-born blacks is 30% higher than U.S.-born blacks.
“A lot of the African . . . immigrants are coming specifically to get an education in the States,” says Andrew McCaskill, senior vice president of global communications at Nielsen.
“High numbers are college-educated, and not only have college degrees, but also masters,” he adds.
McCaskill also says that the black immigrant population in the U.S. has a higher percentage of entrepreneurs, and an increased ability to keep dollars in their own communities.
“ They’re creating jobs in their communities, they’re buying products from their entrepreneurs. There typically is a culture of recycling dollars, which contributes greatly to the rising fortunes,” says McCaskill.
While U.S. born blacks have had to battle generations of institutional racism, such as predatory lending, that has put them at a socioeconomic and psychological disadvantage that some immigrants have not experienced in this country. McCaskill hopes the changing economic landscape for blacks, citing the Nielsen finding that income growth rates in black households are surpassing almost all others, will help U.S. born blacks and immigrants realize the economic power they collectively have.
“When black consumers see how much power they have, it will change the way African Americans look at themselves, and see how much [of a] power they have become economically. They have the power to drive the products and services that come into their lives and come into their communities,” says McCaskill.

Simanjiro — After authorities in Simanjiro District slapped a ban on permits to transport donkeys on trucks from the district, racketeers now ride the animals into the forest, slaughter them, fry the meat and transport it to awaiting markets.
There has been an increase in the theft of donkeys from homes in the district after which they are herded to the bushes where they are slaughtered.
The carcasses are then deep fried ready for sale. Apparently, fried donkey meat commands higher prices, especially in Dodoma and as far as China.
This trend has been reported in Naberera, Namalulu, Lolibosioit, Terrat and Ilboreti villages in Simanjiro District, Manyara Region, according to a veterinary officer for the Meru Animal Welfare Organisation, Dr Bwanga Dr Jumanne added that donkey meat is mostly exported to China while the hides are taken to Kenya.
"Once the carcasses are dipped in boiling oil, it makes the meat easier to transport without attracting suspicion from authorities," explained Dr Jummanne.
Simanjiro District Commissioner (DC), Mr Zephania Chaula, revealed that local residents usually neglect their donkeys, who are used in various transport tasks while in times of drought they are used to fetch and carry water.
For most of other seasons, they are left to move freely and fend for themselves.
Mr Chaula added that there are people who steal the animals at night and transport them under cover of darkness, kill, skin and fry the meat ready for export.
The Manager in-Charge of 'Punda Poa,' project, which deals with taking care of neglected animals under the 'Meru Animal Welfare Organisation,' said the programme helps members of the Maasai tribe to construct sturdy fences to protect their animals.

Awali, Serikali ya Rais Barack Obama ilitoa ahueni kwa watu wanaosadikiwa kuwa milioni 11.1 (kwa mujibu wa takwimu za mwaka 2014 za taasisi ya utafiti ya Pew ya Marekani) baada ya kuwaruhusu kupitia mchakato ambao ungewapa uhalali wa kuishi nchini humo.
Lakini katika kampeni zake, Trump alisema hahitaji wageni walioingia Marekani kwa kukwepa sheria na hivyo atawatimua ili wakaanze mchakato wa kuomba kuingia Marekani wakiwa kwenye nchi zao.

Kwa mujibu wa taasisi ya utafiti ya Pew, Wamexico ndiyo wanaoongoza kwa kuwa na idadi kubwa ya wageni wanaoishi bila ya nyaraka halali wakiwa asilimia 52, lakini kutokana na uchumi wa Mexico kuimarika pamoja na ulinzi mkali mpakani, idadi yao inapungua.
