With A Light Touch: After earnestly watching the final tallies of the Kenyan Election 2017 I went to bed like many others without knowing how this 'Game of Thrones' like contest had played out. I went to bed thinking about Form 34A; No, I just didn't think about it, I dreamed about it! The first thought in my mind as the sun hit my eyes this morning was "Form 34A"! It reminded me of those "hanging chads" in the US's election in the State of Florida some years back. Oh Democracy what have you brought us!

In my humble, unsolicited opinion it seems for us Africans we have been able to figure out how to establish so called "independent" electoral commissions which could as well be called "dependent" Electoral commissions; we have figure out how to print fancy ballots paper as well as using some advanced electoral machinery popularly referred as "biometric voting system". In my quick research I have done it seems not many developed democracies use these 'biometric' tools.

Even more, we have figured out a way to motivate and excite hour people by running some very imaginative campaigns, and indeed up to the day of the election we have shown that we can embrace democracy with all its intricacies. But, when push come to shovel it is the tallying of votes that we prove in most parts of Africa we are well suited to perform. I mean, the simple additions of numbers (sometimes with carrying of digits). We do not believe anybody else can do addition except the government! The funny thing is that many of our governments with all the resources at their disposal are having difficulties in colleting, adding and simply announcing the sums of these numbers! They could've have hired secondary school kids to do this and possibly the could've done it better and faster!

Well.. what can I say, we must well educated, exposed to best ideas in the world but still.. we are just Africans, doing the "African" thing! .. or how else can you explain what is happening in Kenya?

This is how Africa politics it is...
