Kenya are through to the quarter-finals of the Wellington 7s after a resolute passage of play against pacific islanders Samoa winning 28 - 14.

Mwamba RFC’s contributions Collins Injera, Dan Sikuta and Lavin Asego to the squad made the full tally of 28 points against Samoa’s 14 at full time.

Kenya ceded the first points of the game when Samoa Toloa broke through an undecided defense to score under the post.

Lolo Lui put the extra two points over to give Samoa seven points after only 30 seconds of the match.

Dan Sikuta who has so far been the stand-out player from the Kenya side scored a try on the third minute mark with Asego converting to tie the scores at seven all.

Following a well knitted passage of play Sikuta was again on the scoreboard with Asego adding the extras for a 14 - 7 score.

Just before half-time Asego who is also returning to the squad after a long absence capitalised on a ruck error by Samoa picking up a loose ball and racing to the try line unchallenged to score. He kicked over the conversion taking Kenya to 21 points at halftime.

Kenya used a numerical advantage to put the game beyond Samoa after Lolo Lui was sin binned for a not releasing a tackled player.

Kenya’s top try scorer Collins Injera who was also exemplary scored after running a great support to Billy Odhiambo to score under the uprights.

Asego kicked the conversion successfully.

Samoa scored a late converted try to end the match at 28 - 14 in Kenya’s favour.

Kenya now advance to the quarter-finals after having beaten Scotland by 19 to 14 points and going down 31 - 7 to Argentina.
