The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) has called off the teachers' strike.


The teachers will return to class with a Sh16.2 billion deal spread out in two phases, as had earlier been agreed between Knut and the government.

"We have assessed the government offer over time and we are satisfied that we have put in place proper mechanisms through engagement... with that in mind, the National Executive Council has now authorised the secretary general to call off the strike," said Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) chairman Wilson Sossion.

He was speaking after a two-hour meeting with Deputy President William Ruto.

The decision to end the 24-day strike was reached just hours after the government ordered all public primary schools closed indefinitely.

The government said measures are in place to ensure Standard 8 pupils sit national examinations.

"The government hereby orders the closure of all public primary schools indefinitely, aware that primary school teachers continue to participate in an illegal and unconstitutional strike having refused to comply with legal directives of the Teachers Service Commission," said Education Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi Wednesday.

All the bravado by the likes of Kaimenyi and Kazungu amounted to nothing.

This is ,,,,,,the only statement that woke up these teachers,,,face the truth and
move away,,,,from their hallucinations.

Together with the salaries of June withheld,,,,,these guys were in a tight corner.

I had supported Kenya's teachers,,but not this time.

Why,,,because i was seeing no difference,,of them,, with the MP's.

Theirs was simply,,trying to hi-jack the Jubilee government and teach
it a lesson,,as mr Sossion said,,,many times.

But i feel pity for mr Sossion,,,you said so many things but,,,umekula
hiyo hiyo matapiko yako.


Mr Sossion,,,,how could you cut a mugumu(fig) tree with a razor blade.
Jubilee is not what you thought.

You have just dug your grave,,you mislead so many teachers
to stick with you,,but what are you going to tell them.

Your miscalculated moves were only to try and corner the Jubilee government.

Why have you,,now,,,accepted what you refused,,,one month ago,,,baada
ya hasara kubwa????

You wanted more than 40 Billion kshs,,but you are accepting only 16 B,,,
which you swore,,,that would only happen over your dead body.

Jubilee government is very different from the previous one,,,led
by drunkards,,,,this is no Kibaki and Railas,,,this is UhuRuto,,,
if you want to be another Alexander the great,,,

You are for a very big surprise,,,,,my friend,,mr Sossion.

Today,,all those who thought that you were a savior,,,are
now up in arms,,against you.

Sossion,,,,now things have turned upside down and that is
why i always insist,,,,Ukipanda Ngazi kwa haraka haraka,,,,

Two things, whatever they got out of the strike had been got a week prior to the calling off the strike negotiated between the government and a rival union but they refused to resume teaching.
Secondly the threat to fire teachers was so real this time round but the teachers noted with speed the minute the education minister declared the schools closed and headed straight to Ruto's office where they had to wait for two hours for he was even out of town. Had they waited just a little bit longer you would be swallowing your words here.
