Nuru Salalmi Ng'oma,
Umenifariji pakubwa sana.

Ahsante ndugu yangu.

labda Allah akipenda kuinusuru nchi yetu.

Katika kitabu changu, ''The Life and Times of Abdulwahid Sykes (1924-1968)
The Untold Story of the Muslim Struggle against British Colonialism,'' bila hofu
nimezungumza mengi ambayo yalikuwa mwiko kusemwa.

ushahidi madhubuti.

Kitabu changu kimejaa ushahidi wa haya.
Kila aliyejaaliwa kukisoma kitabu hiki alibaki kinywa wazi.

Ndiyo maana hadi leo kutoka kitabu kichapwe mwaka 1997 hajatokea mtu

kuanza ''an academic work with religious undertones?''

Mhariri wa kitabu hiki alikuwa Prof. mmoja mwanamke wa Kiingereza.

Nilimjibu nikamwambia haya ninayosema nataka Allah ndiye awe shahidi yangu
wasije watu wakasema kuwa mimi ni muongo.

Ushauri wake kwangu ulikuwa kitabu kimejitosheleza hapana haja ya kufanya
hivyo.

Hassan bin Amir
wala Sheikh SuleimanTakadir...

Ndiyo maana hadi leo hakuna historia ya uhuru ukitoa kitabu changu ambacho
''publishers'' wote nchini walikiogopa nikaenda kukichapa Uingereza.

Prof. Issa Shivji, Prof. Saida Haroub Othman na Dk. Kamata walikuja kunihoji

utafiti.

Alinihoji kuhusu Sheikh Hassan bin Amir.
Nilimwekea mhadhara mmoja niliotoa Zanzibar kuhusu Sheikh Hassan bin Amir.

Ghafla nimemuona kijana kajiinamia machozi yanamlengalenga.

1.Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain

2.
Sulaiman (who does not want to reveal his surname), a Kenyan-born 32-year-old software engineer living in East Northamptonshire, lost his faith six years ago. His family disowned him. "I knew they would have to shun me," he said. "They are a religious family from a [close] community in Leicester. If anyone [finds out] their son is not a Muslim, it looks bad for them." He added that people "find it strange" that he meets up with ex-Muslims, but he said it is important to know "there is a community out there who care about you and understand your issues".
Another former Muslim in her late twenties, who does not want to be named, said the "ex-Muslim" identity was particularly important to her. "Within Islam, leaving [the religion] is inconceivable. [The term] atheist doesn't capture my struggle," she said, adding that her family does not know the truth about how she feels.
Pakistani-born Sayed (not his real name), 51, who lives in Leeds, lost his faith decades ago. He left home at 23 and moved between bedsits to avoid family members who were looking for him. He told his family about his atheism only two years ago. "I was brought up a strict Muslim, but one day, I realised there was no God," he said. He told his mother and sister by letter that he was an atheist but they found it difficult to comprehend.
"Whenever I tell my sister or my mum that I am depressed, stressed or paranoid, they say it's because I don't pray or read the Koran enough," he said, adding that he will not go to his mother's funeral when she dies. "I won't be able to cope with the stress or the religious prayers. There's quite a lot of stigma around."
Iranian-born Maryam Namazie, 47, said that it does not have to be this way. Her religious parents supported her decision to leave their faith in her late teens. "After I left, they still used to whisper verses in my ear for safety, but then I asked them not to. There was no pressure involved and they never threatened me," she said. "If we want to belong to a political party, or religious group, we should be able to make such choices."
Zaheer Rayasat, 26, from London, has not yet told his parents that he is an atheist. Born into a traditional Pakistani family, he said he knew he didn't believe in God from the age of 15.

Yet, even in Britain, where the freedom to change faiths is recognised, there is a growing number of people who choose to define themselves by the religion they left behind. The Ex-Muslim Forum, a group of former Muslims, was set up seven years ago. Then, about 15 people were involved; now they have more than 3,000 members around the world. Membership has reportedly doubled in the past two years. Another affiliated group, the Ex-Muslims of North America, was launched last year.

[h=1]Confessions of an ex-Muslim[/h][h=1]Over 100,000 people in Britain converted to Islam between 2001-2011, yet it is believed that up to 75 per cent may have since lost their faith. Who are they - and how do they feel about the way of life they embraced then quickly abandoned?

Islam is often perceived as a religion antithetical to British, secular values. But between 2001-2011, more than 100,000 British people converted to Islam. This may come as a surprise, especially considering the virulent climate of Islamophobia supposedly pervading the country in the shadow of 9/11. Yet, while Muslims may rejoice at the news of many British people flocking to Islam, little is known about the large proportion of converts who later become apostates.
"Many converts leave the faith. We don't have exact statistics but some stats say 50 per cent will leave within a few years," says Usama Hasan, a part-time Imam and a senior researcher at the counter extremism think-tank, the Quilliam Foundation.
The internet, in particular, Twitter, provides ex-Muslims, often with pseudonymous accounts, a safe haven to challenge, criticise and mock Islam. The Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain (CEMB), founded six years ago, was set up by a group of non-believers and acts as a community for those who have renounced their faith.
There are, of course, a multitude of reasons why someone might become an apostate after converting. Many British women convert when marrying a Muslim man, but, when the relationship ends, they sometimes leave the faith. (The same rarely happens in reverse, as the consensus of scholars believes a Muslim woman marrying a non-Muslim man is against the Sharia.) Some converts don't receive the community support upon entering the faith. While others can be referred to as "drifters": they experiment with different lifestyles. However, many ex-Muslims cite bad experiences with Muslims in their stories of how they came to renounce the faith.
Pepe, 39, is an ex-Muslim who was born in London but now lives in Canada with his Muslim wife and two children. He converted at 20, after discovering the religion through Sufism, the mystical dimension of Islam. He remained a fairly practising Muslim for 15 years but he often struggled with certain aspects of the faith, which he shrugged off as "satanic thoughts".

Islam is the fastest growing religion in England and Wales, according to new census data. The number of people identifying with no religion nearly doubled over the last decade while the percentage of people who call themselves Christians has dropped to 59 percent, down from 72 percent 10 years ago, CNSNews.com reports.
The Muslim Council of Britain was pleased with the new data, saying Muslims were playing a "significant part in increasing diversity in Britain."
Of the roughly 56.07 million people counted in the census, 33.24 million described themselves as "Christian" while 2.7 million identified as Muslims, an increase from 3.0 percent to 4.8 percent over a 10-year period. Further, the 2.7 million Muslims in England and Wales make it the second largest religion there. The next largest religions are Hinduism (817,000), Sikhism (423,000), Buddhism (248,000) and Judaism (263,000).
Religious leaders attempted to explain away the trend. "Christianity is no longer a religion of culture, but a religion of decision and commitment," said a spokesman for the Catholic Church.
A spokesman for the Archbishop's Council of the Church of England said "one of the reasons may well be fewer people identifying as ‘Cultural Christians' i.e. those who have no active involvement with churches and who may previously have identified as Christian for cultural or historical reasons."
CNSNews.com has more background:
Other mainstream and fringe faiths (including pagan, pantheist, wiccan, satanist, druid, "Jedi Knight" and others) lagged far behind, but the number of people declaring themselves to have no religion jumped to 14.4 million, from 7.7 million a decade ago. This means a full one-quarter of people in England and Wales now identify as having no faith.
In the U.S., by contrast, a 2007 Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life survey found 16.1 percent of respondents identified as "unaffiliated" with any particular religion, while in the 2008 American Religious Identification Survey the figure was 14.9 percent. (The U.S. Census Bureau is prohibited by law from asking questions on faith affiliation on a mandatory basis.)
British secularist groups did not conceal their delight, reiterating predictions that Christians could be in the minority within five years.
Andrew Copson, of the British Humanist Association (BHA), said the new census data proves governments need to realize that religion is growing "decreasingly relevant."
Additionally, Terry Sanderson of the National Secular Society said the data "should serve as a warning to the churches that their increasingly conservative attitudes are not playing well with the public at large."
Halafu soma na hii...
Islam is the fastest-growing religion in England and Wales, according to new census data that the British government says "describes the defining characteristics of the population, who we are, how we live and what we do."
The latest tranche of data from Britain's 2011 Census was released on December 11. The statistics are for England and Wales only; the census in Northern Ireland and Scotland is separate and the government will release those figures at a later date.
The census data shows that the number of Christians in England and Wales declined by 11% (4.1 million) during the past decade, from 37.3 million in 2001 to 33.2 million in 2011.
During the same period, the Muslim population in England and Wales increased by 80% (1.2 million), from 1.5 million in 2001 to 2.7 million in 2011, making it the second-largest religion in Britain.
The third-largest religion in England and Wales is Hinduism (817,000), followed by Sikhism (423,000), Buddhism (248,000) and Judaism (263,000).
As a proportion of the population as a whole (56.07 million people were counted in the census), the number of those describing themselves as Christian has dropped from 72% in 2001 to 59% in 2011. The number of Muslims has increased from 3% to 5% over a decade.
To be sure, some analysts believe the true number of Muslims in Britain may be much higher than indicated by the census data. This is because the religion question was the only voluntary question on the 2011 Census and 7.2% of people did not answer the question.
It is believed that many of those who completed the census data were reluctant to identify themselves as Muslims and that the true number of Muslims in the country is considerably higher than the 5% indicated by the census data.
The number of people who say they have no religious affiliation jumped by 83%, from 7.7 million in 2001 to 14.4 million in 2011. In proportional terms, this would imply that one-quarter of people in England and Wales now identify as being non-religious.
The census data corroborates information gleaned from other recent surveys. For example, the 2012 British Social Attitudes Survey found that only about half of Britons claim a religious affiliation, down sharply from 20 years ago, when two out of three did. Barely a quarter of young people identify themselves as religious.
If the increase in agnosticism and atheism in Britain is mostly generational, the surge in the number of Muslims is due to immigration and conversion.
The census data shows that during the past decade, England and Wales experienced their greatest-ever population growth (7.1%) in any 10-year period since 1800. Much of this increase is due to immigration.
In real terms, 13% (or 7.5 million) of the population of England and Wales was born abroad. Of that number, 3.8 million arrived between 2001 and 2011. In other words, most of the immigrants living in England and Wales today arrived within the past 10 years.
The census data shows that London is now the most multicultural region in Britain with the highest proportion of people identifying themselves as Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu and Jewish. The northeastern and northwestern parts of Britain have the highest proportion of Christians and Wales has the highest proportion of people reporting no religion.
Knowsley, a borough near Liverpool in northwest England, has the highest proportion of people reporting to be Christian, at 80.9%. Tower Hamlets, a borough in east London, has the highest proportion of Muslims, at 34.5% (nearly seven times the figure for England and Wales as a whole). Norwich, a city in eastern England, has the highest proportion of the population reporting no religion, at 42.5%.
The data shows that 13 of the 20 fastest-growing boroughs are those with high concentrations of Muslim residents, led by Tower Hamlets and Newham in east London. The 2011 Census shows that nearly 40% (or about one million) of the Muslims in England and Wales live in London.
Although immigration is the biggest factor in the rise of Islam in Britain, it is also true that hundreds of Britons are converting to Islam every month.
According to a recent survey conducted by an inter-faith group called Faith Matters, the number of British converts to Islam recently passed the 100,000 mark, and there are as many as 5,000 new conversions nationwide each year. Previous estimates had placed the total number of Muslim converts in Britain at between 14,000 and 25,000.
The survey revealed that nearly two thirds of the converts were women, more than 70% were white and the average age at conversion was just 27.
The survey, conducted by Kevin Brice from Swansea University in Wales, asked converts for their views on the negative aspects of British culture. They identified "alcohol and drunkenness," a "lack of morality and sexual permissiveness" and "unrestrained consumerism."
More than one in four acknowledged there was a "natural conflict" between being a devout Muslim and living in Britain. Nine out of ten women converts said their change of religion had led to them dressing more conservatively. More than half started wearing a head scarf and 5% had worn the burka.
Separately, government authorities recently revealed that an increasing number of inmates at British prisons are converting to Islam. For example, one-third of the inmates at one of Britain's most notorious youth jails are Muslims and the religion is attracting a large number of converts.
Prison insiders say most non-Muslims are locked up during Friday prayers because so many guards are needed to monitor the lunchtime service. As a consequence, many disillusioned youngsters are becoming attracted to Islam by the prospect of getting better food and superior treatment at the prison.
Most conversions to Islam are being triggered by a combination of increasing proselytizing activity by Muslims as well as by a growing disaffection with Christianity.
Some observers say the decline of traditional Christian churches in Britain, a trend that is being accompanied by the demise of Judeo-Christian moral codes in British society, is creating a spiritual vacuum that Islam is beginning to fill.
In any event, all indications are that a growing number of Britons who grew up in nominally Christian households are converting to Islam. This partially explains why the number of Muslims is increasing while the number of Christians is declining.
This trend can be expected to continue. In a study released in 2005, the British-based association Christian Research said that successive generations attend church less frequently than previous ones.
The study, English Church Census 2005, predicted that the number of Christians attending Sunday services in Britain will fall by two-thirds over the next three decades. The study also expected that poor attendance will force some 18,000 churches to close.
At the same time, all indications are that the Muslim population in Britain will continue to grow in the future. At the current rates of growth, the number of Muslims will double again by the time the next census is conducted in 2021, and will then make up 10% of the population.
Karibu tena....

Do you know what the fastest growing religion in America is? It isn't Christianity. According to the latest U.S. Religion Census that was just released on May 1, 2012, the fastest growing religion in America is Islam. The data for the census was compiled by the Association of Statisticians of American Religious Bodies, and the results were released by the Association of Religion Data Archives. From the year 2000 to the year 2010, the census found that the number of Muslims living inside the United States increased by about 1 million to 2.6 million – a stunning increase of 66.7 percent. That is an astounding rate of growth. Meanwhile, most Christian denominations had rates of growth that were far below the overall rate of population growth in the United States, and some Christian denominations actually lost members. Sadly, when Barack Obama once said that "we are no longer a Christian nation" he wasn't too far off the mark. Christianity is rapidly losing influence and other religions such as Islam are rapidly gaining members and building new places of worship. As other major religions such as Islam continue to grow in the United States, it is inevitable that this will reshape America in many different ways in the years ahead. So what about other religious groups?
How did they fare according to the U.S. Religion Census?
Well, the following are some of the growth rates for major religious organizations from the year 2000 to the year 2010….
Mormons: +45.5%
Evangelical Protestants: +1.7% (far behind the overall rate of population growth)
Catholics: -5.0%
Mainline Protestants: -12.8% (an astounding decline)
But it was Islam that experienced the most explosive growth.
According to Ihsan Bagby, a professor of Islamic Studies at the University of Kentucky, there were about 1,200 mosques in America back in the year 2000.
According to this new census, there are now 2,106.
All over the United States we are seeing "mega-mosques" being constructed, and in many cases the funding is coming from overseas.
And these mega-mosques are not going unused. In some areas of the country, Islamic communities are experiencing absolutely explosive growth.
The following example comes from a recent USA Today article….
Imam Muhammad Musri, president of the Islamic Society of Central Florida, saw growth explode by a whopping 473 percent in and around Orlando's Orange County, according to the RCMS study, and he thinks the growth is actually double the 10,000 new Muslims reported by the study.
He said Muslim growth has been fueled by a wave of post-9/11 converts, American-born children of immigrants having kids of their own, and jobs in the booming medical industry. In central Florida, he said, Muslims are just following everyone else in search of "better weather, cheaper prices, cheaper homes."
A lot of this growth is being fueled by immigration. A survey conducted by the Pew Research Center back in 2007 discovered that 39 percent of all adult Muslims living in America were immigrants that had arrived in the United States since 1990.
This rapid influx of Muslims is reshaping communities all over America. For example, Muslim students now account for approximately 10 percent of the total number of students in the New York City School District.
And all over the country many school districts are now changing their school calendars to observe Islamic holidays.
In fact, in Dearborn, Michigan football practices are actually scheduled around Ramadan. The following is from a Fox News article….
In Dearborn, Mich., where schools are closed on both the day before and the day of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, the predominantly-Muslim football team has switched its two-a-day summer practice schedule to 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. during Ramadan, so that Muslim players - who fast while the sun is up – won't be forced to practice in the heat without drinking water.
The move received little backlash in Dearborn, because most of the football players are Muslims.
Dearborn is located just outside of Detroit, and it contains one of the densest Arab communities outside of the Middle East. Each day, the local mosque's call to prayer can be clearly heard all over the city. Dearborn is a clear example of why we can no longer call America a "Christian nation".
But Islam is not the only non-Christian religion that is growing rapidly in America.
The latest U.S. Religion Census found that non-Christian groups grew by 32 percent overall from the year 2000 to the year 2010.
Meanwhile, as I have written about previously, the decline of Christianity in America is accelerating.
Back in 1990, one survey found that 86 percent of all Americans identified themselves as "Christian" of one sort or another.
By 2008, only 76 percent of all Americans identified themselves as "Christian" of one sort or another.
Meanwhile, atheism and the "not religious" are experiencing huge gains in numbers. For example, the U.S. Census Bureau says that the number of Americans with "no religion" more than doubled between 1990 and 2008.
Even many of those that still apply the label of "Christian" to themselves are not very committed. The latest U.S. Religion Census found that approximately 150 million Americans are not actively engaged with any religious community at all. That is nearly half of the population.
So America is changing.
It is becoming less religious and it is becoming less Christian.
What is your opinion about all of this?
Please feel free to post a comment with your thoughts below….
