Dar es Salaam. Saratani imeendelea kuwa tishio hapa nchini huku hofu ikiendelea kuikumba jamii kutokana na wataalamu

wa afya kushindwa kufahamu tiba halisi ya maradhi hayo hatari.

Takwimu kutoka Taasisi ya Saratani ya Ocean Road zinaonyesha ongezeko la saratani ya mdomo na koo kwa kiasi

kikubwa kutoka kesi 167 mwaka 2006 hadi 277 mwaka 2012.

Mkurugenzi wa Idara ya Kinga Ocean road, Julius Mwaiselage anaeleza kuwa watanzania wasipende kuiga mambo

ambayo si sahihi bila kujua madhara yake kama kufanya mapenzi kwa njia ya mdomo. "Saratani ya mdomo ipo, na

nyingine zinasababishwa na zinaa " anasema Dk Mwaiselage

Tafiti mbalimbali zimewahi kufanyika nchini na kubaini kuwepo kwa ongezeko la saratani ya mdomo.Utafiti uliofanywa na

Dk Innocent Mosha wa Kitengo cha Patholojia cha Hospitali ya Taifa ya Muhimbili (MNH), umebaini aina za saratani

1,594, kati ya hizo 509 zikiwa ni za midomo kwa mwaka 2003 pekee.

Matokeo hayo yanaonyesha kuwa kati ya saratani 509 za mdomo, saratani 242 zilisababishwa na Virusi vya Human

Papiloma ambavyo hutokana na zinaa.

"Ninachojua mimi ni kuwa Virusi vya HPV husababishwa na magonjwa ya zinaa, hivyo mtu anayeugua saratani ya aina

hiyo, imetokana na zinaa," anasema Dk Mosha.

Takwimu hizo ni zile zilizopatikana kwa watu waliokwenda kufanyiwa uchunguzi katika Mkoa wa Dar es Salaam pekee.

Dk Mosha anasema kuwa wanaume ndiyo huathiriwa zaidi na saratani ya mdomo ambapo kwa hapa nchini, asilimia 53 ya

wanaume waliofika MNH kwa ajili ya vipimo, walibainika kuugua saratani hiyo, huku wanawake wakiwa ni asilimia 47.

Utafiti kama huo ulifanywa pia na Dk Amos Mwakigonja, mkuu wa Idara ya Patholojia katika Chuo Kikuu cha Tiba cha

Muhimbili (MUHAS).

Dk Mwakigonja alifanya utafiti wa saratani ya mdomo aina ya Kaposi's Sarcoma ambapo wagonjwa 78 walibainika na

saratani hiyo kuanzia mwaka 1990 hadi 2003. "Saratani za mdomo zipo za aina nyingi na zimetofautiana kulingana na

visababishi vyake," anasema Dk Mwakigonja.

Katika utafiti wake Dk Mwakigonja alibaini kuwa wanawake wengi walikuwa na saratani ya mdomo aina ya Kaposi's

Sarcoma kuliko wanaume.

Hata hivyo, utafiti huo ulionyesha kuwa asilimia 50 ya wanaume walikuwa na saratani ya mdomo hatari zaidi (systemic)

kuliko wanawake ambao ni asilimia 37.
