Kenya’s Tullow Oil has halted its early oil pilot scheme citing poor road network in Turkana due to floods and is set to resume operations after roads are repaired.

In its trading and statement and operational update it noted that ” Trucking remains on hold until all roads are repaired to a safe standard. Work continues with Joint Venture Partners and the Government of Kenya to progress the development project”.

Meanwhile ,Tullow Oil expects to report a $1.5 billion (1.15 billion pounds)write down after lowering its long-term oil price assumptions by $10 to $65 a barrel, an announced reduction in reserves in Ghana and disappointing exploration wells, it said on Wednesday.

After repeated delays for its East African projects, Tullow also noted that there was no breakthrough in Uganda, where it is looking to reduce its stake.

Tullow, a partner of French oil major Total in several projects, has forecast 2020 output to shrink to a maximum of 80,000 bpd and fall again to around 70,000 bpd in 2021-2023. It is still looking for a replacement for its former Chief Paul McDade, who stepped down last month.

Tullow’s full-year results are due on March 12 and will include updates on the review of its assets and management structure.

Amesema it is almost complete. Hajasema it is complete. Kizungu kwani ni tatizo? Halafu ameonyesha lami sasa sijui hio dusty road umeiona wapi?

Kenyan banks and companies zina more capital na more financial power na zitadominate S. Sudan market.

endelea kujitamba hata pipeline ya Uganda mlisema hivyohivyo! THE Tanzanian government has awarded a contract for the construction of the 341km Mwanza – Isaka standard-gauge railway (SGR) to a partnership of China Civil Engineering Construction (CCEC) and China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC).

Tanzania Standard Gauge railways Morogoro – Makutupora section

The contract was signed by Tanzanian foreign minister, Mr Palamagamba Kabudi, and his Chinese counterpart, Mr Wang Li, on January 6.

The north-south line will link the port of Mwanza on Lake Victoria to southern town of Isaka. The $US 1.32bn line will be funded by the Tanzanian government.

The line is part of the country’s $US 6.7bn standard-gauge railway project, which was announced in April 2017, and is intended to replace the country’s colonial-era metre-gauge network.

The project is intended to create an international route connecting Tanzania’s eastern port of Dar es Salaam, via the Tanzanian interior, with two western branches splitting at Isaka. One branch will run to Lake Victoria, offering shipping connections to Uganda and Kenya, and the other will run west to Burundi, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

The line is being constructed in five phases:
  • Dar es Salaam – Morogoro: a 205km six-station section which began construction in 2017 under a consortium of Yapi Merkezi, Turkey, and Mota-Engil, Portugal. A test run was successfully completed on a 20km section near Soga in July 2019
  • Morogoro – Dodoma – Makutopora: a 348km eight-station section which will be funded through a $US 1.46bn loan agreement with local and international lenders, announced in 2018
  • Makutupora – Tabora – Isaka: a 435km section which will connect the eastern network to Isaka, where the line splits into two branches
  • Mwanza – Isaka, and
  • Isaka – Rusumo: a 371km $US 942m section which will connect the line to the border with Rwanda.

Na Uganda tayari wanatuhitaji katika 80% of their importation needs.

Kujenga SGR is too expensive and it is not economically viable kwa sasa maana trade volumes between Kenya na Ethiopia iko chini sana.

Inasema kwamba in 2018 Uganda iliexport to Kenya goods worth $580 million na kuimport from Kenya goods worth $516 million. Total trade volume ni more than $ 1 billion between these two countries, in just one year. So Uganda wanatuhitaji na sisi tunawahitaji.

Hiyo 80% inaenda kupungua in the next three years ambapo nina uhakika SGR Dar-Mwanza itakuwa tayari na pia EACOP pipeline itakuwa tayari!

Of course that is possible. Lakini that is assuming that the central corridor itakuwa as efficient as the northern corridor. Unajua tangia zamani northern corridor ndio imekuwa more efficient kushinda central corridor katika kudeliver goods in Uganda. Natumai modernisation and expansion of Dar port itaifanya Dar port kuwa more efficient na badala ya meli kuchukua siku nyingi kwenye port, ichukue siku mbili tu kushusha mizigo na kung'oa nanga. Kwa sasa Mombasa port is very efficient thanks to our SGR. Meli inachukua between two to three days kushusha mizigo. Mfanyibiashara wa Uganda atajiuliza maswali mawili tu (time and money). Itanigharimu pesa ngapi kusafirisha mizigo yangu kutumia northern corridor as compared to central corridor. Swali la pili ni, itanichukua muda upi kusafirisha mizigo yangu kupitia northern corridor as compared to central corridor. At the end of the day ile corridor ambayo itaoffer Ugandan businessmen cheaper transportation costs and faster transit times ndio itashinda. Pengine itawabidi nyinyi mshushe bei ya kupakua mizigo na kuoffer free storage of containers for 30 days ili kuattract Waganda amabao wamezoea Mombasa port.

Umeandika ufala as usual! FYI even as u speak Dar has more state of art equipment for paperless one stop center than Mombasa port! From scanners to processing of documents and even the berths at Dar port are getting done while SGR Dar-Mwanza is already having 3 out of 5 lots U/C though Kenya started SGR construction 5 years head of Tanzania!

Moreover there are TPA liason offices in all of the landlocked countries. Fool get something to do and stop having that rotten brain thinking ur port and stupid diesel line to nowhere somewhere in naivasha is efficient! I assur you that SGR line will never break even in the next 10 years! NGR is already in superb condition all the way to Kigoma and Mwanza aside Tanga-Arusha!

Wacha maneno mengi. Swali linabakia pale pale. Ship turnaround time in Mombasa port imereduce from 7 days or more to 2 to 3 days. Ship turnaround time in Dar baada ya upanuzi imepungua from 14 days to 5 days.

Hii ni mwaka jana na btn then n now more berths have been completed u will be stupid to believe the turn around is still 5 days! BTW that minister is no more a minister he was sent packing as he couldn't meet JPM"s speed!

Tanzania’s Zanzibar and the Oman Investment Authority on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at implementing a ports master plan development along the Islands’ Indian Ocean coastline.

A statement issued by the Zanzibar State House said the signing of the agreement was witnessed by Tanzania’s Zanzibar President Hussein Mwinyi and a high ranking delegation from the government of Oman.

The agreement was signed by Tanzania’s Zanzibar Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works, Transport and Communications, Amour Hamil Bakari and the Managing Director of the Oman Investment Authority, Mohammed Al-Tooqi, said the statement.

According to the statement, the agreement entailed the development of major ports at Mangapwani and Bumbwini coastal areas in the Zanzibar archipelago.

The agreement will see the development of a container port, a port for fishing vessels and a port for oil and gas, said the statement without giving financial details of the mega project.

Speaking shortly after the agreement was signed, President Mwinyi said the development of the ports signaled the start of a journey toward economic growth of the Islands.

Mwinyi said his government decided to construct the ports because they were Zanzibar’s economic backbone.
