Even if constructiono of Lamu port will be complete, it won't make any profit, it will end up as white elephant, only Uganda and South Sudan are reliable customers, can these two countries plus your selves have enough volume of cargo for two big ports, Mombasa and Lamu?

When a project is designed, you say it will never be built, when it gets built you say it's a white elephant project. I love this song. It's a song of sorrow

Nimeanza na neno even if, because I am sure it won't get anywhere, there is no money for and GoK is running out of cash

Which space for two big ports to save only three countries, actually only two countries because South Sudan is not a complete country, you don't need to spend calories to know that Lamu port will end up as a white elephant

As opposed to Bagamoyo port, a $10B project meant to serve the same market as currently served by an already existing Daresalaam port

First b4 you talk about a project, look it up so that you can argue from a knowledgeable point of view.
Lapsset stands for LAmu Port South Sudan Ethiopia Transport -corridor.... It had nothing to do with Uganda ,It was also launched b4 kenya even discovered oil

South sudan will get back to peace eventually,
Ethiopia is a landlocked country of 90+ million people, they want a second connection to the sea.
They also plan to build a massive agriprossessing industry in their south and will need a quicker access to the sea than Djibouti. By 2025-2030 their population will be between 120-150mil!

Look at lapsset project map -Uganda not in the plan

This is a vision 2030p project. It's build for the future. Mombasa port cannot handle an infinit increase in cargo

This is what we call a challenge discussion instead of crying. Bagamoyo port is a strategic port for mainly big ships which can't served by any port in East Africa, this port is targeting to handle massive volume of coal and iron ore from Southern Tanzania, Copper and other heavy minerals from Zambia and DRC, but the most important is that, it is purely privately owned by China and Oman companies,GoT won't contribute anything apart from land and logistic support, if it will not make any profit, what we are going to miss are taxes and jobs

You can't commit such big amount of money from poor country like Kenya based on hopes without confirmed deal, you are hoping that South Sudan will settle soon, remember many of us had hope that Somali would settle soon after fall of Siad Barre, is that hope realized? if Kenya would commit big projects for Somalia what would happen?

About Ethiopia, if you have done basic courses on research methodology, you can understand when I mention"killer assumption", I can comfortably predict that Ethiopia shall never use Lamu port due to the following important reasons
1)Ethiopia has just finished building its SGR to Djibouti, Ethiopia needs to pay back Chinese loan with interest, therefore Ethiopia needs to make use of its railway by increasing volume of cargo transported by its railway, any attempt to use Lamu port will be suicidal to its economy
2)Ethiopia economy is not strong enough to build second railway line to connect with Lamu port, therefore the only connection with Lamu port is road, businessmen can't choose road if there is train
3)Ethiopia's Export Processing Zone(EPZ), lies along its SGR, therefore all goods and services shallbe transported by using SGR

And why will South Sudan leave Port Sudan n refuse to join Djibouti port? And why will Addis Ababa refuse Djibouti port also? Do u know how a no brainer project looks like? Ask Somalia as that's the only country Kenya is assured of to be onboard as apparent the project will be infringing her territorial waters! [emoji23] [emoji115]

Mimi ninaona wana matatizo makubwa mawili,
