I have to come to realise that there is a leadership problem at Mzizima Sec School which used to be one of the most famous schools in Tanzania. It used to pose a stiff competition to other schools by having very good exam results. This is no longer the case. Through simple facts I have observed that:
  1. The parents have never met to discuss how the teachers could be remunerated to work harder to ensure that the students are given more classes where they are weak. Most Teachers are laissez-faire.
  2. More emphasis is given to the students undertaking the International syllabus thus little attention is given to those pursuing the National Exam syllabus. The Agakhan School Authorities as well as the NECTA and the Ministry of Education should immediately look into this deficiency.
  3. A vivid example is that while Form IV's are to sit for their final exams in September (?), they are to go on leave for one month in July. This is not right. Something need to be done before things go off-hand. An intervention is required to avoid this slackness.
  4. The parents are ready to be involved in the whole process for the betterment of all parties concerned.
