This is not about Ruto or indeed the Kenyan delegation being present at the conference. This is about the two leaders who vehemently this pact, claiming it would hurt their country's economic goals.

They should have pressed for the reevaluation of the terms of the deal. Instead they turned to defending the govt of Burundi implicated for gross human rights violations, and opted to use that deal as a bargaining chip to get the punishing sanctions against the country lifted as their pre- condition for signing the deal. In essense, they are going to accept this deal with all the contentious terms intact, sacrificing their countries' interests in the process.

Now they want to play hard- to - get, the Burundi sanction is a very lame pretext for their refusal to sign the deal. We know they will eventually yeild to pressure. [emoji23]

The EU wouldnt lift the Burundi sanctions, just to get these countries to sign EPA, I dont see that happening.

But Burundi is a full member of the EAC.
It is good to support them when need be. Besides, the EPA deal requires ALL member states to sign. What happens when it is only Burundi that won't sign?
