Javier Mascherano: Set for a move

Mascherano, who captained Argentina at the World Cup, spoke with manager Roy Hodgson after returning from holiday, having previously ignored the new manager's attempts to contact him.
A source close to Mascherano told Soccernet: "The talks were extremely amicable. It was all done in a very nice way. Javier made it clear that he wanted to leave a year ago when he had the chance to go to Barcelona.
"He was asked to stay on for one more year, he agreed, so now it is time for him to go. It was all very pleasant and it is now a question of the two clubs who are interested in him making an acceptable offer to Liverpool."
Hodgson held talks with skipper Steven Gerrard and convinced him to stay, but has failed to convince Mascherano, who now looks likely to rejoin former manager Rafael Benitez at Inter Milan or seal a move to Spanish champions Barcelona, who are looking to replace Yaya Toure after admitting defeat over Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas.

Cole: Parting shot from Ancelotti

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has hinted that Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole was not intelligent enough to follow team instructions.
The Blues allowed Cole to leave for Liverpool on a free transfer and then bought Yossi Benayoun for £6million, with many questioning the wisdom of the deal.
But Ancelotti told The Sun: "Joe Cole is quicker than Benayoun but Yossi is better tactically. He understands what I tell him.
"Yossi is a very intelligent player. He knows everything about the game.
"Cole and Benayoun are different players and everyone has their own opinion, but we are happy to have Yossi here at Chelsea."
This follows pre-World Cup reports that Fabio Capello did not trust Cole not to lose the ball in key positions.

Huyu Anceloti anataka kukimbia lawama tu kutoka kwa mashabiki wa Chelsea ndio mana anasema pumba hizo........Alifikiri pia watampata Nandos wakitupa Cole bure.....

Huang quiet on Chinese government talk

Liverpool fans: Hoping for good news on takeover

Prospective Liverpool owner Kenny Huang has refused to comment on reports his consortium is being backed by the Chinese government.
George Gillett and Tom Hicks are looking to sell and several parties are reportedly considering a takeover.
Chinese businessman Huang revealed earlier this week that he was interested in investing in Liverpool, although he has yet to make a formal offer.
Reports in Thursday morning's press have now suggested that the Chinese government is Huang's mystery backer.
China Investment Corporation (CIC) is the country's overseas investment arm that was set up in 2007 and reportedly has $332billion to spend abroad.
Huang has yet to make a statement in response to the story but any potential buyer must be cleared by the Premier League.
Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore will not look into the matter further until China's involvement is confirmed but says such a scenario would be acceptable.
"If they had the backing of the Chinese government we wouldn't have any problem with that, any more than we do the Manchester City situation, with effectively sovereign wealth out of Abu Dhabi," Scudamore told Sky Sports News.
Asked about China's human rights record, he added: "I don't think that is something we would get into. I don't think it is right to be going into detail."
