Love and relationship
During our parents era, love and relationship was a one sided agreement.
A man was the one who were considered to start a relationship, his interests where what was given priority and a woman’s views were not prioritized. For a man to start a relationship was if he was interested in a lady, he should talk to his elders and ask for their support to court her. The elders were to go to the lady's home to talk to her parents if she accepts she will be courted.
In other families the lady was not even given a say in it, only the families were to suggest where their children are to settle and start a family. A good example is in the Maasai tribe, Sukuma tribe and tribes from Musoma.
These tribe’s women were not given a say in who they want to start a life with, only their families were responsible to choose who were to have a relationship with. A women was supposed to be respectful to his man even if she does not want or love him. It was her duty to respect his husband no matter the circumstance.
It was believed that a woman learns how to love and she can learn in spite the fact that at first she did not like the man.
A good example from Maasai, when a lady has come up to a matured age, she is supposed to be married and she cannot choose who to be married with. But if a man likes the lady he will consult his parents about his plans to marry in that lady's family, he will then consult his fellow colleagues and they will go and wrap a kanga around that girl, that symbolizes that the girl is already taken by that man, it may be in her will or not. She will be taken to that man’s side for her to be kept under good care.
The man’s family will inform the woman’s family that they have their lady and the family will come with gifts for that family. The lady will be kept under surveillance of the man’s women relatives, she will not be allowed to go outside and her great meal will be offal’s soup while the meat will be eaten by elders. Until the both families comes to agreement about dowry the lady will be able to go out and marry the man, at that time her Skin will be thrived and She will be of a better health that she can bear children for her husband.
The lady only duty is to respect the man, doing the chores and keeping the household while the man will go out to look for food for his family. The Maasai do not consider the affection of a woman, they all know that she has to abode with her duties as a woman and to respect her husband.
As generations passed by the meaning of love and relationship has been considered differently with different views where woman are also allowed to choose their spouses. Love is now considered a two sided agreement. A man and a woman are to choose what they want and what they don't want in a relationship. And this will be according to the one they are interested to be with.
Love has also been explained even holy books. In the holy book of the Bible, 1Corithians 13:4-8 Love is patient, love is kind, love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It dies not insist on its own way, it is not irritable or resentful, it does not rejoice in wrong doing, but rejoice in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hope all things, and endures all things. Love never ends.
Everyone have his or her own views on how he or she understands love is. I on my side I have viewed love in various perspectives; for instance, one can be seeing something for a very long time, but when that person decides to take a closer look on that something he or she will realize its more than what he or she was seeing, will find more and decides that he or she want to take possession of it, to be a part of it. In other perspective a person may be attracted by someone among the crowd.
This is when there a lot of people but ones eye decides to fall only on one person, this I call it love at first sight. It happens out of a blue where no one has figured out. One will be eager to know more on that person, he will want to sit with that person and know her more. In that little Time that he was able to see her and want to know more of her. In other ways love can develop from friendship. This is when you find yourself triggered by the person you have known as your friend. It happens a lot in our daily lives. This is due to the fact that our friends are more close to us than our spouses, even after we face difficulties with our spouses our friends are the ones to make us pass through those hardships.
Without an alarm we found ourselves swapped by the feeling of more than friendship toward them.
The 21st generation, youths life is being characterized by love and relationship. Everything youth is either in a relationship or loving someone from a distance. It’s not a secret anymore as a huge population choses to show their relationship in public. The internet has also helped individuals to get their partners through various sites of dating such as tinder. Even in other social medias such as Instagram, Facebook, what's app, Snapchat and so many other have helped people to come together to share their part of life which influence others and decides to have a relationship with them.
In spite of love being everywhere, it has also been a source of maltreatment to other people. It has led to suicide attempts. This is due to misunderstanding and unfaithfulness between couples. The rate of suicide has increased due to openness of the technological equipment’s such as mobile phone which are easily trackable. Jealousy have been the source of every relationship chaos, and to those who can’t control their emotions they end up in the harm either psychologically of physically.
