Kenya’s coronavirus cases on Wednesday rose to 5,206 after 254 more patients tested positive from a sample size of 4,859 carried out in the last twenty four hours.
Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, speaking at Afya House during the daily COVID-19 briefings, said all the new patients are Kenyans composed of 186 males and 68 females.
Distribution of the new cases in terms of counties was as follows: Nairobi (127), Mombasa (36), Migori (29), Kajiado (22), Kiambu (12), Busia (9), Uasin Gishu (5), Murang’a (3), Machakos (2), Kilifi (2), Nakuru, (1), Siaya (1), Taita Taveta (1), Garissa, (1), Isiolo (1), Kakamega, (1), Kisii (1).
The Nairobi cases were recorded in various areas such as: Westlands (32), Dagoretti North (18), Lang’ata (16), Kamukunji (14), Embakasi East (12).
The Mombasa infections were confirmed in the sub-counties of Mvita (11), Jomvu (8), Kisauni (5), Likoni (5).
Dr. Mwangangi also stated that 41 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries ti 1,823.
She further said the number of fatalities also rose to 130 after two more patients succumbed to the disease.
Nationally, according to figures released by Dr. Mwangangi, Nairobi Metropolitan area so far leads in the number of coronavirus cases at 2,428 followed by Mombasa at 1,304 and Busia with 361.
