At least nine individuals were confirmed positive for Ebola in the Greater Kampala region on Sunday, bringing the total number of cases to 14 in the last 48 hours.

Health Minister Dr Ruth Aceng said the “9 cases are contacts of the fatal case who came from Kassanda district and passed on in Mulago Hospital.”

Uganda reported nine more Ebola cases on Sunday in its Kampala region, bringing the total number of cases to 14 in the last two days, the country's health minister said in a tweet.

"The 9 cases are contacts of the fatal case who came from Kassanda district and passed on in Mulago Hospital," Minister Jane Ruth Aceng said on Monday.

She further disclosed that “7 family members are from Masanafu and 1 health worker who managed him in a private clinic together with his wife from Seguku.”

The spread of Ebola in the capital city of Uganda and neighboring towns has raised fears that President Museveni could take drastic containment measures.

Museveni recently introduced a curfew and movement restrictions in the high-risk areas of Kassanda and Mubende to stop the spread of the deadly virus.

Aceng urged Ugandans to remain vigilant. “Report yourself if you have had contact or know of a person who has had contact,” she advised.

As of October 22, Uganda had registered 75 cumulative cases, 26 recoveries and 28 deaths of Ebola. Trackers are following up 1,746 suspected contacts of Ebola patients.
