Hundreds of young volunteers have responded to DR Congo's President Felix Tshisekedi's call to join the front lines and fight against the M23 rebels.
The mobilisation comes as fighting intensifies between government soldiers and the rebels in the eastern region.
The volunteers were pictured on Monday sitting on a plane bound for a training centre.
M23 rebels are now in control of large swathes of territory near the provincial capital, Goma after a string of successful attacks.
The M23, which was formed a decade ago, claims to defend the interests of ethnic Tutsis living in DR Congo against Hutu militias.
Morale was high amongst the volunteers who had stepped up to join the offensive against the rebels.
Much of the recruitment took place across the North Kivu province. It is unclear how long the training will take before the volunteers are deployed to the front lines.
