40:7-8a, 8b-9, 10, 11
R. (8a and 9a) Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.Sacrifice or oblation you wished not,but ears open to obedience you gave me.Holocausts or sin-offerings you sought not;then said I, “Behold I come.”
R. Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.“In the written scroll it is prescribed for me,To do your will, O my God, is my delight, and your law is within my heart!”
R. Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.I announced your justice in the vast assembly;I did not restrain my lips, as you, O LORD, know.
R. Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.Your justice I kept not hid within my heart;your faithfulness and your salvation I have spoken of;I have made no secret of your kindness and your truthin the vast assembly.
R. Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.

Again the LORD spoke to Ahaz:

Ask for a sign from the LORD, your God; let it be deep as Sheol, or high as the sky!

But Ahaz answered, “I will not ask! I will not tempt the LORD!”
Isaiah 7:13
Then he said: Listen, house of David! Is it not enough that you weary human beings? Must you also weary my God?
Isaiah 7:14
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign; the young woman, pregnant and about to bear a son, shall name him Emmanuel.

For this reason, when he came into the world, he said: “Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me;
Hebrews 10:6
holocausts and sin offerings you took no delight in.
Hebrews 10:7
Then I said, ‘As is written of me in the scroll, Behold, I come to do your will, O God.’”
Hebrews 10:8
First he says, “Sacrifices and offerings, holocausts and sin offerings, you neither desired nor delighted in.” These are offered according to the law.
Hebrews 10:9
Then he says, “Behold, I come to do your will.” He takes away the first to establish the second.
Hebrews 10:10
By this “will,” we have been consecrated through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Lk 1:26-38
Luke 1:26
In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth,
Luke 1:27
to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin’s name was Mary.
Luke 1:28
And coming to her, he said, “Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you.”
Luke 1:29
But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.
Luke 1:30
Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
Luke 1:31
Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus.
Luke 1:32
He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father,
Luke 1:33
and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”
Luke 1:34
But Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?”
Luke 1:35
And the angel said to her in reply, “The holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.
Luke 1:36
And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren;
Luke 1:37
for nothing will be impossible for God.”
Luke 1:38
Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.

But during the night, the angel of the Lord opened the doors of the prison, led them out, and said,
Acts 5:20
“Go and take your place in the temple area, and tell the people everything about this life.”
Acts 5:21
When they heard this, they went to the temple early in the morning and taught. When the high priest and his companions arrived, they convened the Sanhedrin, the full senate of the Israelites, and sent to the jail to have them brought in.
Acts 5:22
But the court officers who went did not find them in the prison, so they came back and reported,
Acts 5:23
“We found the jail securely locked and the guards stationed outside the doors, but when we opened them, we found no one inside.”
Acts 5:24
When they heard this report, the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests were at a loss about them, as to what this would come to.
Acts 5:25
Then someone came in and reported to them, “The men whom you put in prison are in the temple area and are teaching the people.”
Acts 5:26
Then the captain and the court officers went and brought them in, but without force, because they were afraid of being stoned by the people.

John 3:19
And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil.
John 3:20
For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed.
John 3:21
But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.

Evening Reflection (QT)
Introduction
Jesus’s entry into Jerusalem is compared to a humble king as described in Zechariah 9:9, which is quoted in verse 15. The crowd greets him with palm branches and with praises. Some Greeks were also in Jerusalem at the time and ask to see Jesus. Today’s reading concludes with Jesus speaking about his death, knowing that he will fulfill God’s purpose and bring glory to God the Father.
Reflection
Palm branches were regularly used to welcome visiting rulers or famous people. What is the significance of the crowed using palm branches to greet Jesus when he arrived in Jerusalem (verse 13)? Reread verse 24. Why do you think Jesus uses the metaphor of a grain of wheat? What is at the heart of his teaching? How will you praise and honor Jesus today?
Pray
Lord Jesus, I seek to serve and follow you. You are the King of Israel! I praise you, Lord Jesus!

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
John 12:12-36a
John 12:12
On the next day, when the great crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
John 12:13
they took palm branches and went out to meet him, and cried out: “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, [even] the king of Israel.”
John 12:14
Jesus found an ass and sat upon it, as is written:
John 12:15
“Fear no more, O daughter Zion; see, your king comes, seated upon an ass’s colt.”
John 12:16
His disciples did not understand this at first, but when Jesus had been glorified they remembered that these things were written about him and that they had done this for him.
John 12:17
So the crowd that was with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from death continued to testify.
John 12:18
This was [also] why the crowd went to meet him, because they heard that he had done this sign.
John 12:19
So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are gaining nothing. Look, the whole world has gone after him.”
John 12:20
Now there were some Greeks among those who had come up to worship at the feast.
John 12:21
They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, “Sir, we would like to see Jesus.”
John 12:22
Philip went and told Andrew; then Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus.
John 12:23
Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.
John 12:24
Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.
John 12:25
Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will preserve it for eternal life.
John 12:26
Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there also will my servant be. The Father will honor whoever serves me.
John 12:27
“I am troubled now. Yet what should I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But it was for this purpose that I came to this hour.
John 12:28
Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it and will glorify it again.”
John 12:29
The crowd there heard it and said it was thunder; but others said, “An angel has spoken to him.”
John 12:30
Jesus answered and said, “This voice did not come for my sake but for yours.
John 12:31
Now is the time of judgment on this world; now the ruler of this world will be driven out.
John 12:32
And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself.”
John 12:33
He said this indicating the kind of death he would die.
John 12:34
So the crowd answered him, “We have heard from the law that the Messiah remains forever. Then how can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?”
John 12:35
Jesus said to them, “The light will be among you only a little while. Walk while you have the light, so that darkness may not overcome you. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where he is going.
John 12:36
While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become children of the light.” After he had said this, Jesus left and hid from them.

Mt 4:4b
R. Alleluia, alleluia. One does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.

Reading I
Acts 5:34-42
Acts 5:34
But a Pharisee in the Sanhedrin named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, respected by all the people, stood up, ordered the men to be put outside for a short time,
Acts 5:35
and said to them, “Fellow Israelites, be careful what you are about to do to these men.
Acts 5:36
Some time ago, Theudas appeared, claiming to be someone important, and about four hundred men joined him, but he was killed, and all those who were loyal to him were disbanded and came to nothing.
Acts 5:37
After him came Judas the Galilean at the time of the census. He also drew people after him, but he too perished and all who were loyal to him were scattered.
Acts 5:38
So now I tell you, have nothing to do with these men, and let them go. For if this endeavor or this activity is of human origin, it will destroy itself.
Acts 5:39
But if it comes from God, you will not be able to destroy them; you may even find yourselves fighting against God.” They were persuaded by him.
Acts 5:40
After recalling the apostles, they had them flogged, ordered them to stop speaking in the name of Jesus, and dismissed them.
Acts 5:41
So they left the presence of the Sanhedrin, rejoicing that they had been found worthy to suffer dishonor for the sake of the name.
Acts 5:42
And all day long, both at the temple and in their homes, they did not stop teaching and proclaiming the Messiah, Jesus.
Gospel
Jn 6:1-15
John 6:1
After this, Jesus went across the Sea of Galilee [of Tiberias].
John 6:2
A large crowd followed him, because they saw the signs he was performing on the sick.
John 6:3
Jesus went up on the mountain, and there he sat down with his disciples.
John 6:4
The Jewish feast of Passover was near.
John 6:5
When Jesus raised his eyes and saw that a large crowd was coming to him, he said to Philip, “Where can we buy enough food for them to eat?”
John 6:6
He said this to test him, because he himself knew what he was going to do.
John 6:7
Philip answered him, “Two hundred days’ wages worth of food would not be enough for each of them to have a little [bit].”
John 6:8
One of his disciples, Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, said to him,
John 6:9
“There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what good are these for so many?”
John 6:10
Jesus said, “Have the people recline.” Now there was a great deal of grass in that place. So the men reclined, about five thousand in number.
John 6:11
Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed them to those who were reclining, and also as much of the fish as they wanted.
John 6:12
When they had had their fill, he said to his disciples, “Gather the fragments left over, so that nothing will be wasted.”
John 6:13
So they collected them, and filled twelve wicker baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves that had been more than they could eat.
John 6:14
When the people saw the sign he had done, they said, “This is truly the Prophet, the one who is to come into the world.”
John 6:15
Since Jesus knew that they were going to come and carry him off to make him king, he withdrew again to the mountain alone.

I THINK SO!

Philippians 4:8 (KJV)
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Thoughts have power, and they create realities. What you think about, you become; it’s as simple as that. This is why the Word of God talks about your thought life so much. Thoughts chart the course of your life. In the verse above, God didn’t only instruct us to guard our hearts against the wrong thoughts from passing through, but He also specifically told us the kind of thoughts to allow.

There are people who have heard something that wasn’t true, or honest, or pure, or of good report, yet they kept it in their minds until it controlled their lives and led to depression. Some will hold onto longstanding grudges, and all that does is produce an even more negative state of being. Don’t brood over anything that’s detrimental to your spirit. Rather, make a practice of forming the right images in your mind in consistency with the Word. Think so!

PROPHETIC DECLARATION
I think only on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of a good report, virtuous and praiseworthy. I shall prosper as a result, in Jesus’ Name, hallelujah!

Evening Reflection (QT)
Introduction
Pilate had found no reason to condemn Jesus to death, but the chief priests (who are supposed to serve God), show their loyalty to the Roman emperor in order to get Pilate to sentence Jesus to death by crucifixion.
Reflection
Most likely the Roman authorities did not allow Jewish officials to put anyone to death without a clear case of guilt. Initially, Pilate could find no reason to condemn Jesus. Why did he then sentence Jesus to death? What did his action reveal about his character? Have you ever felt pressured to do something even though it went against your conscience?
Pray
Lord Jesus, for my sake you were sentenced to death by crucifixion even though you were innocent. Thank you, Jesus, for your undying love for me. With a humble and grateful heart, I magnify your holy name.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
John 19:1-16a
John 19:1
Then Pilate took Jesus and had him scourged.
John 19:2
And the soldiers wove a crown out of thorns and placed it on his head, and clothed him in a purple cloak,
John 19:3
and they came to him and said, “Hail, King of the Jews!” And they struck him repeatedly.
John 19:4
Once more Pilate went out and said to them, “Look, I am bringing him out to you, so that you may know that I find no guilt in him.”
John 19:5
So Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple cloak. And he said to them, “Behold, the man!”
John 19:6
When the chief priests and the guards saw him they cried out, “Crucify him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and crucify him. I find no guilt in him.”
John 19:7
The Jews answered, “We have a law, and according to that law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.”
John 19:8
Now when Pilate heard this statement, he became even more afraid,
John 19:9
and went back into the praetorium and said to Jesus, “Where are you from?” Jesus did not answer him.
John 19:10
So Pilate said to him, “Do you not speak to me? Do you not know that I have power to release you and I have power to crucify you?”
John 19:11
Jesus answered [him], “You would have no power over me if it had not been given to you from above. For this reason the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin.”
John 19:12
Consequently, Pilate tried to release him; but the Jews cried out, “If you release him, you are not a Friend of Caesar. Everyone who makes himself a king opposes Caesar.”
John 19:13
When Pilate heard these words he brought Jesus out and seated him on the judge’s bench in the place called Stone Pavement, in Hebrew, Gabbatha.
John 19:14
It was preparation day for Passover, and it was about noon. And he said to the Jews, “Behold, your king!”
John 19:15
They cried out, “Take him away, take him away! Crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your king?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.”
John 19:16
Then he handed him over to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus,

Now Stephen, filled with grace and power, was working great wonders and signs among the people.
Acts 6:9
Certain members of the so-called Synagogue of Freedmen, Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and people from Cilicia and Asia, came forward and debated with Stephen,

but they could not withstand the wisdom and the spirit with which he spoke.

Then they instigated some men to say, “We have heard him speaking blasphemous words against Moses and God.”
Acts 6:12

For we have heard him claim that this Jesus the Nazorean will destroy this place and change the customs that Moses handed down to us.”
Acts 6:15
All those who sat in the Sanhedrin looked intently at him and saw that his face was like the face of an angel.
Gospel
Jn 6:22-29
John 6:22
The next day, the crowd that remained across the sea saw that there had been only one boat there, and that Jesus had not gone along with his disciples in the boat, but only his disciples had left.
John 6:23
Other boats came from Tiberias near the place where they had eaten the bread when the Lord gave thanks.
John 6:24
When the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they themselves got into boats and came to Capernaum looking for Jesus.
John 6:25
And when they found him across the sea they said to him, “Rabbi, when did you get here?”
John 6:26
Jesus answered them and said, “Amen, amen, I say to you, you are looking for me not because you saw signs but because you ate the loaves and were filled.
John 6:27
Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him the Father, God, has set his seal.”
John 6:28
So they said to him, “What can we do to accomplish the works of God?”
John 6:29
Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent.”

Morning Reflection (QT)
Introduction
Today’s reading concludes the book of Leviticus and describes laws pertaining to the sale of lands dedicated to the Lord and laws pertaining to various offerings.
Reflection
Much of what is described in the book of Leviticus, such as what is found in chapter 27, is not part of modern-day life. The law described in verses 28 and 29 indicates that something dedicated completely to the Lord could not be used by anyone else and had to be destroyed. This law most often applied to towns and people captured in war (see Numbers 21:1-3; Joshua 6:16, 17). Ten percent, as cited in verse 30, traditionally known as a tithe, refers to the tenth that is holy or dedicated to the Lord’s sacred place of worship. In what ways does your community of faith dedicate offerings to the Lord? What stood out for you in today’s reading?
Pray
Lord God, teach me to lead a life of service that glorifies and honors you and reflects your love for all people.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Leviticus 27:16-34
Leviticus 27:16
If someone dedicates to the LORD a portion of hereditary land, its valuation shall be made according to the amount of seed required to sow it, the acreage sown with a homer of barley seed being valued at fifty silver shekels.
Leviticus 27:17
If the dedication of a field is made at the beginning of a jubilee period, the full valuation shall hold;
Leviticus 27:18
but if it is some time after this, the priest shall estimate its money value according to the number of years left until the next jubilee year, with a corresponding reduction on the valuation.
Leviticus 27:19
A person dedicating a field who then wishes to redeem it shall pay one fifth more than the price thus established, and so reclaim it.
Leviticus 27:20
If, instead of redeeming such a field, one sells it to another, it may no longer be redeemed;
Leviticus 27:21
but at the jubilee it shall be released as sacred to the LORD; like a field that is put under the ban, it shall become priestly property.
Leviticus 27:22
If someone dedicates to the LORD a field that was purchased and was not part of hereditary property,
Leviticus 27:23
the priest shall compute its value in proportion to the number of years until the next jubilee, and on the same day the person shall pay the price thus established, a sacred donation to the LORD;
Leviticus 27:24
at the jubilee the field shall revert to the hereditary owner of this land from whom it had been purchased.
Leviticus 27:25
Every valuation shall be made according to the standard of the sanctuary shekel. There are twenty gerahs to the shekel.
Leviticus 27:26
Note that a firstborn animal, which as such already belongs to the LORD, may not be dedicated. Whether an ox or a sheep, it is the LORD’s.
Leviticus 27:27
But if it is an unclean animal, it may be redeemed by paying one fifth more than its value. If it is not redeemed, it shall be sold at its value.
Leviticus 27:28
Note, also, that any possession which someone puts under the ban for the LORD, whether it is a human being, an animal, or a hereditary field, shall be neither sold nor redeemed; everything that is put under the ban becomes most holy to the LORD.
Leviticus 27:29
All human beings that are put under the ban cannot be redeemed; they must be put to death.
Leviticus 27:30
All tithes of the land, whether in grain from the fields or in fruit from the trees, belong to the LORD; they are sacred to the LORD.
Leviticus 27:31
If someone wishes to redeem any of the tithes, the person shall pay one fifth more than their value.
Leviticus 27:32
The tithes of the herd and the flock, every tenth animal that passes under the herdsman’s rod, shall be sacred to the LORD.
Leviticus 27:33
It shall not matter whether good ones or bad ones are thus chosen, and no exchange may be made. If any exchange is made, both the original animal and its substitute become sacred and cannot be redeemed.
Leviticus 27:34
These are the commandments which the LORD gave Moses on Mount Sinai for the Israelites.
