Comprehension kweli ni shida, leo nimeamini.
Kwenye video, serikali inazungumzia foreigners working in the country illegally. For example if you are from Brazil or Chile or the UK and have come to Kenya you need a work and residence permit to live and work in Kenya. What the president said in his speech after election was that all African's dont need to apply for tourist visa's in their home countries and can now be granted one on arrival in Kenya. A tourism visa and work/residence permits are two very different things.
On the article, there is a point which proves kwamba kweli kazi ya kuwaelimisha waAfrika bado ipo. Charles Onyango-Obbo (a Ugandan living in Kenya) writes;
"What made Uhuru’s announcement far more significant was that he also said other East Africans (like this columnist) would now need only an identity card to live and work in Kenya, and to get married to a Kenyan.
This had many people confused, because they thought it was already possible to do that.
Yes, East Africans can travel freely to Kenya. But to live here legally you need a resident permit, and to work you need a work permit, which since the Mwai Kibaki years has been free."
If such a simple concept can fly over people's heads and lead to all these arguments, sembuse complicated policy discussions?
SMFH.
