Leicester bidding to buy Spurs' Naughton

Published 17:23 07/01/11 By MirrorFootball

Tottenham defender Kyle Naughton could be a full-time Leicester player by the time Manchester City visit in the FA Cup on Sunday.
The Foxes are locked in talks with Spurs as they look to complete a permanent move for the 22-year-old, whose loan deal has expired.
Meanwhile, Leicester have sold defender Michael Morrison to League One side Sheffield Wednesday for an undisclosed fee.
Morrison, 22, has signed a three-and-a-half year contract and is the second player to arrive at Hillsborough during the transfer window after Plymouth centre-back Reda Johnson.

Ba has refused to return to training with Hoffenheim following West Ham United's interest in signing the striker on loan with a view to a permanent move. The Senegal international has insisted he is not a mercenary, having previously been disappointed that Hoffenheim did not sanction a move to Stuttgart. Hopp believes Ba is trying to force an exit from the Bundesliga side and is weighing up whether to enter into negotiations with interested clubs. "Definitely, it's of use to work on a transfer for the player," Hopp told kicker-Sportmagazin. "It's the second time in his Hoffenheim career that he has opted to go toe-to-toe with the club over a transfer request. "For me, it is still dubious if Demba Ba will get a new club under these circumstances. Ba is attempting to get a transfer through by force. "As far as I know there were already indications at Christmas that he would be doing this." Hoffenheim's general manager Ernst Tanner is ready to bring in Fifa on the issue and doubts Ba will ever play for the club again. Tanner told Bild: "For me, actually, I cannot believe Demba Ba will play in a Hoffenheim jersey again and I am definitely looking to contact Fifa over this affair. "If we do not want him to play elsewhere for a while, he will definitely be unable to play for the time being."

The 19-year-old is currently on loan with Wanderers from Portuguese outfit Benfica. Rodrigo's opportunities so far have been limited, although he has showed touches of class. He scored his first Premier League goal for Bolton in Wednesday's 1-1 home draw against Wigan. Coyle likes the youngster's versatility and believes there is much more in his locker and he can help exploit. "He is capable of playing in many positions," explained Coyle. "I can help him develop.

It was reported last month that the Tigers had lined up a deal for Chester following the 21-year-old's impressive loan spell at Carlisle United. Chester had spent the first half of the season on loan at Carlisle and scored four goals in 24 appearances for the League One club. However, he has now been offered the chance to prove himself in the Championship after signing a three-and-a-half year contract at the KC Stadium. Reports suggest the Tigers have spent in the region of £300,000 on the centre-half, who made just one senior appearance during his United career. His debut for Hull, though, is on hold as he is ineligible for Saturday's FA Cup third round tie against Wigan Athletic after playing for Carlisle earlier in the competition.

It appeared Rooney would be condemned to spend a spell on the sidelines when he limped off with an ankle injury at West Brom on New Year's Day. However, the England forward startled many observers when he made his way back onto the field as United had already been reduced to 10 men. That decision cost Rooney a chance to figure in Tuesday's win over Stoke. But the 25-year-old has returned to training and could be in contention to face the Merseyside giants. "If it had been serious Wayne would not have come back on last week," said Ferguson. "Maybe it was not the right thing to do in terms of getting him ready for Tuesday's game. But he started work yesterday (Thursday) and we just hope that he will be all right for Sunday." Edwin van der Sar could also be involved after a recent bout of flu, although if the veteran Dutchman does not make it, Ferguson confirmed Tomasz Kuszczak will keep his place ahead of new arrival Anders Lindegaard. "Lindegaard is available as from today," said the United boss. "Tomasz has performed very well in his two games with us, so it is a luxury. "Anders has done well training-wise but he has not had any experience of the English game, so that will have a bearing. "It depends on whether Edwin is fit of course but I would probably pick Tomasz in this particular game." Ferguson also confirmed his intention to keep all three keepers with him for the remainder of the season, whilst releasing Ben Amos for a loan spell elsewhere. Meanwhile, the United manager admitted there was no further indication about the recovery of Owen Hargreaves, who limped off with a hamstring injury just five minutes into his first start for over two years against Wolves in November.

Rangers accept Birmingham bid for Miller

Published 17:16 07/01/11 By MirrorFootball

Birmingham City have had a bid accepted for Rangers striker Kenny Miller, the Midlands club have confirmed.
Blues are set to pay an initial fee of £600,000 for Scotland international Miller who is out of contract in the summer.
Miller is now thinking over the personal terms offered by City before deciding whether or not to move to St. Andrew's.
If the deal goes through, Miller will be reunited with Birmingham manager Alex McLeish, whom he played under when the latter was Scotland boss.

McLeish has made no secret of his desire to bring in a proven goalscorer during the January transfer window.
Blues have also made a bid for out-of-favour Tottenham striker Robbie Keane in the last few days.
Miller, 31, had previously played south of the border with Wolves and Derby and has been a consistent scorer throughout his career.
He rejoined Rangers from Derby for a second spell during the summer of 2008.
Miller, who has also had spells with Hibernian and Celtic, has won more than 50 international caps during the past decade.
McLeish is aware his side have to start being more clinical in front of goal, with midfielder Craig Gardner their leading scorer this season with just five goals.
If McLeish gets his man, Miller could make his debut in the derby clash with Aston Villa at St Andrew's in nine days time.

The promising teenager has been with County for the past three months and capped an impressive spell with the Magpies by adding two goals to his name. County boss Ince wanted to keep his son at the League One club for the remainder of the season but Liverpool told the 18-year-old attacker he could only return if he pens a new contract at Anfield. And Ince senior feels that the Reds are selling the young prospect short with what they have put on the table. He said: "They are protecting their asset. He has been outstanding here - different class. "His Liverpool contract finishes at the end of the season and they have said if he signs another contract he can come back here. "We have had an offer which I find derisory. So he is not going to sign it and will wait until the end of the season. "The kid loves Liverpool but it has to be right for him. I don't want to get in a slanging match with them."

Wenger baffled by talk of January World Cup

Published 17:15 07/01/11 By MirrorFootball

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has blasted proposals to play the World Cup finals during the British winter when the event is held in Qatar in 2022.
"It looks like an idea that has come out of nowhere, because nobody was told that when the bid was voted for," said Wenger.
"That is a bit of a surprise and certainly it would mean that the whole world of football has to be reorganised."
Not only do European seasons run through the winter, but Christmas and New Year are one of the most intensive periods in the English game - weather permitting.

"As you know we have a Christmas period which is quite busy here and England would be very happy to play the World Cup in January just after that," Wenger added sarcastically. "It would demand a complete reorganisation of the whole world's fixtures and I cannot see that happening.
"Certainly it would create many problems, yes, between clubs and countries and countries and FIFA."
Fulham manager Mark Hughes said the Premier League would still be playing matches in July if the change happened.
"That's the only way round it from my interpretation," he said. "It's going to be a huge change that year and how it impacts we won't know until it actually happens."
Sunderland boss Steve Bruce said: "What are we going to do with our league?
"I can't get my head around that. What are you going to do with all the leagues around the world?"
At Tottenham, manager Harry Redknapp's sarcastic response was that the idea was "another clever move from Mr Blatter."

Hodgson: Beating United would be remarkable coup

Published 17:08 07/01/11 By MirrorFootball

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson hopes this weekend's FA Cup action will bring some welcome relief from the pressure that has built up on him and his players because of their poor league form.
But even a win at the home of arch-rivals Manchester United on Sunday may not be enough to persuade owners New England Sports Ventures he remains the man to lead the club forward into a new era.
In many respects a trip to Old Trafford may, strangely, be the best thing for the beleaguered Reds boss as no-one gives his side a chance considering their recent form.
But Hodgson describing a potential win against a team who have also been short of their best this season as a "remarkable coup" highlights why he has alienated many supporters, who have been highly critical of his perceived unnecessary negative demeanour and his style of play.

The 63-year-old's six-month reign at the club since taking over from Rafael Benitez in the summer has come under increasing scrutiny after a ninth Barclays Premier League defeat of the season at Blackburn on Wednesday.
Pressure was already building on Hodgson after it was reported NESV were already considering potential replacements after last week's home loss to Wolves.
A last-gasp win over Bolton and defeat at Ewood Park have hardly helped his cause and although he dodged more questions over his future when the club cancelled his pre-match press conference to try to limit further speculation, it will be only a short respite.
However, Hodgson hopes a change of competition will bring a change of luck.
"It gives us a chance in a really high-profile game to get back and put the bitter defeat against Blackburn behind us," he said.
"It was a poor, poor defensive performance to let in the goals we did and we're all very disappointed about that.
"This game against our fiercest rivals gives us the chance to show we are better than we were on Wednesday.
"I don't think it's difficult to get the players focused on a team like Manchester United. I'll be preaching to the converted. They don't need to be told that.
"We've got quite an experienced bunch of players here and they know as well as I do how important this game is - in particular for the supporters of the club, who'd take enormous delight if we could knock Manchester United out of the cup on their home ground.
"It would be a remarkable coup.
"The important thing for me to do is make that point clear but also to emphasise that to win it will require a lot of intelligent football.
"We're not going to do it through heart alone. It needs to be a combination of endeavour and desire, but also people using their heads to play well tactically, negate Manchester United's strengths and take advantage of some of their weaknesses."
Having struggled to build a relationship with fans, with his now infamous comment of not having "the famous Anfield support" after the Wolves defeat last month, Hodgson has tried his best to empathise with those coming through the turnstiles, whose numbers have been markedly fewer in recent weeks.
He apologised for any offence his "famous support" remarks may have caused and after the Blackburn defeat insisted he and his players were hurting as much as the fans.
And having been the subject of sarcastic "Hodgson for England" chants the former Fulham boss has taken the criticism on the chin.
"It's very painful when it's not happening and the fans make their views felt. We're all hurting in this situation," he told liverpoolfc.tv.
"It's very important the fans realise that we understand they have high hopes, expectations and ambitions for the club and the team.
"We have high hopes, expectations and ambitions as well. Every time we go on to the field we desperately want to see those dreams materialise and to produce the performances which bring you results."

Former Manchester United skipper Roy Keane is believed to be the latest casualty after Ipswich called a press conference for Friday morning. A place in the Carling Cup semi-finals appears not to have been able to save him after a woeful run of league results. Ferguson's own son Darren was sacked by Preston last month and on Wednesday night, four Premier League bosses found themselves under pressure, including Roy Hodgson, whose Liverpool side take on United in the FA Cup at Old Trafford on Sunday. Aware of the sensitive nature of the situation, Ferguson has opted not to get too heavily involved, instead placing his trust in League Managers Association chief executive Richard Bevan to continue his impressive work in defending the men at the helm. But the Scot did accept it is a difficult time for the industry he has made such a success of. "We are in a situation where managers are getting fired or being threatened with getting fired, so there is no point in even discussing it," he said. "It is a very difficult industry nowadays. "I feel for the managers who are under pressure and the ones who have lost their jobs. "But the LMA are the proper people to talk about it. "They are doing a fantastic job and are representing the managers absolutely brilliantly."

United wait on Rooney and Van der Sar for cup crunch

Published 12:05 07/01/11 By MirrorFootball

Sir Alex Ferguson will check on the fitness of Wayne Rooney and Edwin van der Sar before finalising his line-up for Manchester United's FA Cup tie with Liverpool on Sunday.
Rooney suffered an ankle injury in the New Year's Day win at West Brom, while Van der Sar has missed two games due to a flu virus.
Ferguson stated he is picking from the same squad he used over the Festive period, which rules out Paul Scholes (groin) and John O'Shea (calf), although new arrival Anders Lindegaard is available to bolster his goalkeeping ranks.
Team (from): Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Lindegaard, Rafael, Brown, Neville, Ferdinand, Vidic, Smalling, Evans, Evra, Fabio, Nani, Obertan, Carrick, Fletcher, Gibson, Anderson, Giggs, Bebe, Rooney, Berbatov, Hernandez, Owen.

Wolves turn to teen defender for cup tie

Published 16:48 07/01/11 By MirrorFootball

Matt Doherty will make his Wolves debut in the FA Cup third-round tie at Doncaster.
Minor ankle injuries to Kevin Foley and Ronald Zubar have given the 18-year-old a chance at right-back.
Manager Mick McCarthy will otherwise name a strong team for the match, although striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake will be out for three weeks with a hamstring injury he picked up in Wednesday night's win over Chelsea.
Fellow frontman Kevin Doyle came off with cramp against the Blues as he made his return from a thigh injury, but should continue his comeback this weekend.

Marcus Hahnemann will return in goal as Wayne Hennessey is rested.
Wolves captain Karl Henry and defender Jody Craddock are still not ready to return following injury and Steven Mouyokolo remains out with an ongoing back complaint, while Michael Mancienne's knee problem means he won't play either.
Michael Kightly (knee) and Adlene Guedioura (leg) are long-term absentees.
Team (from): Hahnemann, Jarvis, Jones, Ward, Fletcher, Stearman, Mujangi Bia, Halford, Milijas, Elokobi, Hill, Hennessey, Hunt, Bent, Batth, Doyle, Doherty.

Moyes: Let's go and win the FA Cup

Published 16:54 07/01/11 By MirrorFootball

Everton manager David Moyes has promised not to hold anything back in the FA Cup this season.
Moyes believes winning the competition is a realistic objective for his side and will not be replicating the approach of other teams and resting players.
Blackpool boss Ian Holloway has made clear he intends to make wholesale changes for his side's third-round tie tomorrow as he prioritises his next Barclays Premier League game.
Other top-flight managers are likely to follow suit to varying degrees but Moyes insists he will not be one of them.

The Scot led Everton to the FA Cup Final in 2009 and wants to go one better to bring silverware back to Goodison Park for the first time since 1995.
Moyes said: "Ian Holloway is entitled to play whoever he wants.
"Whether the purists like to hear it or not, the Premier League is too important because of the financial importance.
"For the overall future of the club, if you want to keep signing big players you have to stay in the Premier League.
"That's why a lot of managers have to keep their best players for the games that really matter.
"The money we earned from reaching the FA Cup Final was minimal.
"But the prestige and the chance to win the competition is something we are desperate for.
"From our point of view, I will put out as good as we have got.
"I have done that in just about every competition and I don't see myself altering.
"If you are at a club like Everton all cup competitions are a bonus and the longer we stay in them the better."
The Merseysiders travel to Championship side Scunthorpe in the third round tomorrow hoping to maintain the momentum from their thrilling midweek win over Tottenham.
Everton rediscovered their attacking zeal as they put an indifferent start to the campaign behind them to beat the title contenders 2-1 at Goodison.
It was a win that lifted them to 11th in the table and Moyes does not want his players to ease up because they are playing a side from a lower division.
He said: "It was the real Everton for me. We were much more like ourselves, much more like the Everton I would hope we would be.
"To play another Premier League game would probably be what we want because we got to a level of performance we would like to try to keep.
"Sometimes for whatever reason the FA Cup changes that, especially when you play a team from a lower league.
"While I've been here we've had disappointments in the FA Cup, so I'm more than aware of that.
"But we also had a pleasing run two years ago when we reached the final. That's what we want to do.
"We are going to have to go about our job and play as tough and as hard as they do but hopefully show we've got a bit better quality when it comes to it."
Everton suffered a shock loss to Shrewsbury at the third-round stage in 2003 and were also stunned by Oldham three years ago.
Moyes knows from those experiences, and from his time as Preston manager, how players from lower levels can respond when faced with superior opposition.
He said: "I was in the Championship before I came to Everton, so I've got an idea.
"Scunthorpe have come through the leagues and done really well, although I know they are having a bit of a struggle at the moment.
"I could tell you stories about Shrewsbury Town, about other games we have lost in the cup as well.
"I never take any game lightly and I certainly wouldn't take Scunthorpe lightly.
"When you play big games like we have done, the players have to realise the FA Cup is a big competition as well.
"We have to try to do well whoever we play on a football field, there is never an easy game, no matter who you play."
England defender Phil Jagielka is likely to be Everton's only major absentee with a thigh strain.

Madeni yaiandama Yanga Yanga yazidi kusakamwa madeni Friday, 07 January 2011 19:47

kocha wa Yanga Kostadin Papic.

Sosthenes Nyoni

Hukumu Yanga, Simba Machi 5
