Mbunge Mlata awapa somo wanakwaya

na Jumbe Ismailly, Singida

amka2.gif

Houllier aims to silence critics with derby win

Published 23:00 14/01/11 By James Nursey

Gerard Houllier is desperate for a derby victory tomorrow to regain the faith of Aston Villa fans - and intends to recall John Carew.
Houllier, 63, has endured a torrid start to his Villa reign since arriving in September.
He angered Villa fans at Liverpool last month with his reverence to his former club after a 3-0 loss.
Villa have now won just once in nine Premier League games to slip to 18th in the Premier League.

After beating neighbours Birmingham six successive times under Martin O'Neill, Villa were held 0-0 at home by their bitter rivals in October.
They were then knocked out of the Carling Cup quarter-finals at City last month amid crowd trouble.
And having lost their last League game to Sunderland, when Emile Heskey was red carded, Villa fans taunted Houllier about getting sacked in the morning.
An FA Cup win away at Sheffield United has eased unrest at Villa Park, but Houllier said yesterday: "I am not happy to be in the position we are - nobody is.
"I am as hurt as the fans. We need to set our target to escape relegation and that is a fight.
"One of our players got sent off against Sunderland when it was very tight.
"But we are in this together and I was pleased we could offer them a victory at Sheffield United. Birmingham is now a big derby game but we will get there."
Carew, 31, bombed out of Lyon by Houllier in January 2007, had a recent bust-up with Villa's new boss.
His £52,500-a-week contract is up this summer and Carew seemed destined to be sold this month with WBA chasing him. But as Heskey is banned, the Norwegian has grasped his opportunity to impress and is set for a recall like fellow former outcast Richard Dunne.
"He will be in the squad - he will be involved," confirmed Houllier. "John has had a very good week of training. In the games this morning he looked fit and was scoring goals - it was a good omen."
Houllier still has the support of Villa owner Randy Lerner despite his troubles.
He is spending £5m on Lyon midfielder Jean Makoun, 27, who will have a medical this weekend, and will step up his chase for Blackpool's Charlie Adam next week.
Houllier also confirmed Villa are scouting Toulouse midfielder Moussa Sissoko for a summer transfer.
A loan move for Real Madrid's Karim Benzema is unlikely though, because of the Spanish giants' injury woes.
Villa are likely to retain England winger Ashley Young beyond this window, but he is also suspended tomorrow after two cautions at Bramall Lane.
Houllier added: "It is very unfortunate. Emile apologised and Ashley forgot he had fouled before. It is a shame because this is the type of game when we need everybody."

H-T West Brom 1-1 Blackpool: Odemwingie cancels out Vaughan opener

Published 15:55 15/01/11 By MirrorFootball

Leading scorer Peter Odemwingie brought West Brom back on level terms in their Barclays Premier League encounter with Blackpool at the Hawthorns.
The Seasiders started impressively and deservedly went ahead through David Vaughan's 20-yard drive.
But Albion responded strongly and Odemwingie equalised with his seventh goal of the campaign.
West Brom boss Roberto Di Matteo made three defensive changes from the side beaten in their last Barclays Premier League match at Fulham.

Di Matteo axed keeper Scott Carson after his recent poor form and handed a first league start to Boaz Myhill.
In addition, centre-backs Gabriel Tamas and Paul Scharner were available after suspension and replaced Gianni Zuiverloon and James Hurst respectively.
Blackpool manager Ian Holloway kept faith with the side which defeated Liverpool at Bloomfield Road in midweek.
Blackpool striker DJ Campbell missed a golden chance to put his side ahead after only two minutes.
Luke Varney's pass picked out the Seasiders' top scorer and he evaded the challenge of Scharner to leave himself with only Myhill to beat 10 yards out.
But Campbell contrived to screw his shot wide of the post when it looked easier to score.
The Baggies tried to retaliate and Peter Odemwingie's cross from the left of the box found its way to acting skipper Chris Brunt at the far post.
But he opted to volley rather than head towards goal and was high and wide with his attempt.
Blackpool were playing with their customary freedom and went ahead after 11 minutes through a superb goal from David Vaughan.
Stephen Crainey's cross was only half cleared to Vaughan 20 yards out. The midfielder had time to line up his shot - with no Albion player closing him down - before curling it past the dive of Myhill for his second goal of the campaign.
Albion looked to respond but Jerome Thomas over-hit his cross with two players well placed in the danger area.
Blackpool goalkeeper Richard Kingson then did well to punch away a more testing centre from Thomas when under pressure.
The visitors appealed in vain for a penalty after Campbell went down in the box but replays indicated Tamas did not make contact with the striker.
Albion tried to build up some momentum with Thomas posing the main threat.
The home side, with Youssouf Mulumbu driving them on from midfield, threatened seriously for the first time after 27 minutes.
Thomas was again the creator and Brunt seemed certain to convert his deep cross but Crainey made a superb block.
Crainey was then relieved when he made contact with a cross from Thomas under pressure from Odemwingie and forced Kingson to save away to his right.
But Blackpool still looked the sharper side and they posed a threat to a shaky-looking Albion defence every time they ventured forward.
The home fans were becoming increasingly frustrated although Mulumbu did well to shake off three challenges before arrowing in a powerful centre which was held by Kingson.
Then after 37 minutes Odemwingie brought the Baggies back on level terms.
Dorrans supplied the telling ball from the left.
Odemwingie beat the offside trap, controlled the ball and slipped it past Kingson for his seventh goal of the campaign.
The relief was evident all around the Hawthorns after a run of five successive league defeats.
Odemwingie then went for goal after being freed by Thomas but he shot wide when Brunt was better placed in the centre.

West Brom 3-2 Blackpool: Odemwingie braces sees off brave Seasiders

Published 17:08 15/01/11 By MirrorFootball

Two-goal Peter Odemwingie ended West Brom's five game losing streak with a late winner against Blackpool at The Hawthorns.
David Vaughan had put Blackpool in front but Albion replied through Odemwingie and James Morrison only for Gary Taylor-Fletcher to level for the Seasiders.
But then Odemwingie struck with three minutes remaining to move Albion away from the relegation zone.
Blackpool, fresh from their mid-week triumph over Liverpool, played with their customary freedom with the in-demand Charlie Adam in fine form in midfield.

But they were left to rue two missed chances by the normally deadly DJ Campbell.
The Baggies were unsurprisingly devoid of confidence in the first half after their recent poor run.
But they were dragged up off the floor by the driving force in midfield of Youssouf Mulumbu.
Jerome Thomas also posed problems with his pace and crossing power from the left flank.
Campbell missed a golden chance to put his side ahead after only two minutes.
Luke Varney's pass picked out the Seasiders top scorer and he evaded the challenge of Paul Scharner to leave himself with only Boaz Myhill to beat 10 yards out.
But Campbell contrived to screw his shot wide of the post when it looked easier to score.

Odemwingie beat the offside trap, controlled the ball and slipped it past Kingson for his seventh goal of the campaign.
Odemwingie then went for goal after being freed by Thomas but he shot wide when Brunt was better placed in the centre.
A second glaring miss of the game from Campbell prevented Blackpool from regaining the lead early in the second half.
Adam's perfectly timed pass enabled Campbell to beat the offside trap but he slipped the ball past the post from 10 yards out.
It proved a costly miss as Morrison put Albion in front after 52 minutes.
Kingson got his hand to a low ball across the box from Thomas but Morrison was on hand to make no mistake at the far post.
Vaughan became the first player to be yellow carded for a challenge on Mulumbu.
Odemwingie found himself one on one with Kingson who spread himself and smothered the shot.
Albion squandered another great chance when Odemwingie teed up Morrison who shot over from 10 yards out.
With 10 minutes left, Taylor-Fletcher levelled for Blackpool when he turned home Phillips' low cross.
Back came Albion and Kingson blocked an effort from Simon Cox.
But in the 87th minute Odemwingie held off Cathcart and drilled his shot wide of Kingson for the winner.
Marek Cech was booked in stoppage time for time wasting

Chelsea 2-0 Blackburn: Ivanovic and Anelka fires Blues back into Top Four

Published 17:00 15/01/11 By MirrorFootball

Chelsea finally stopped the rot today as arguably their best Barclays Premier League performance for more than two months saw them beat Blackburn and climb back into the top four.
Looking to end their worst run in the league for almost 15 years after winning just one of their previous nine games, the Blues dominated from start to finish at Stamford Bridge.
Both their goals came from corner kicks courtesy of Branislav Ivanovic and Nicolas Anelka, with their final ball continuing to let them down in open play.
The duo also found the net against Rovers back in October to keep Chelsea five points clear at the top of the table, but their efforts today were arguably even more precious.

Despite reports he might attend the game, there was no sign of billionaire owner Roman Abramovich prior to kick-off.
Chelsea needed no extra motivation to end their miserable run in the league, knowing they could leapfrog fourth-placed Tottenham for at least 24 hours.
And buoyed from Sunday's 7-0 FA Cup thrashing of Ipswich and having recalled all their big guns, the home side flew out of the traps.
A heavy touch from Didier Drogba allowed Michel Salgado to intercept after the striker was played in by Anelka and Ramires smashed the ball against the bar after David Hoilett was caught napping.
Martin Olsson tested Petr Cech from 25 yards at the other end as the hesitancy that has dogged the champions in recent weeks began to resurface.
Michael Essien sent a difficult header wide from Frank Lampard's corner, with Blackburn's defence continuing to hold firm in the opening quarter.
Drogba fired over from range before the visitors suffered a 24th-minute blow when David Dunn limped off to be replaced by Premier League debutant Jason Lowe.
Jose Bosingwa blazed over from 25 yards as Chelsea began to run out of ideas but a lightning break 12 minutes from half-time might have seen them break the deadlock but for a brilliant Gael Givet challenge on Drogba.
They were almost caught out themselves moments later when they gave Hoilett space to shoot and force a fine save from Cech, with only desperate defending preventing Nikola Kalinic and Lowe pouncing on the rebound.
An under-pressure Lampard nodded over Bosingwa's cross from point-blank range before Anelka was desperately unlucky not to score when he flicked Drogba's wicked ball against the
Roque Santa Cruz came on at half-time for his second Blackburn debut, with Kalinic withdrawn, but the new man was almost upstaged by Anelka, who dragged narrowly wide less than two minutes in.
Florent Malouda talked himself into a booking after a poor tackle on Mame Biram Diouf, who was too off balance to head Morten Gamst Pedersen's corner on target minutes later.
Chelsea finally got the goal their overall dominance deserved in the 57th minute.
Pedersen flicked John Terry's header from Malouda's corner straight to Ivanovic, who held off Ryan Nelson before squeezing a shot past both him and Salgado.
Malouda fired straight at Robinson as the champions looked for a quickfire second, which Terry should have provided when he flicked Lampard's mishit volley just wide midway through the half.
A well-placed Lampard then got the ball stuck beneath his feet, chipping straight into Robinson's arms before Hoilett was replaced by Jason Roberts.
Robinson came to his side's rescue again 15 minutes from time when a horrendous backpass from Christopher Samba sent Drogba clear.
The striker should have scored but the keeper still did well to close him down.
But that good work was undone by more poor defending from the subsequent corner, Ivanovic leaping highest to head goalward, with Anelka making sure from point-blank range.
That was the striker's final contribution as he and Essien made way for Salomon Kalou and Josh McEachran for the final 10 minutes.
Lampard's lame finish wasted a great chance to make it 3-0, Malouda's rocket was almost spilt into his own net by Robinson and Drogba clipped a improvised strike just over the top.
Daniel Sturridge replaced Malouda for the final three minutes and Chelsea comfortably played out time.

Manchester City 4-3 Wolves: Dzeko and the money-men given massive scare

Published 16:58 15/01/11 By MirrorFootball

.jpeg

Edin Dzeko made his £27million introduction for Manchester City - and was immediately upstaged by strike partner Carlos Tevez as the Blues secured top spot in the Barclays Premier League by edging a seven-goal thriller at Eastlands.
The fiery South American joined Dimitar Berbatov at the head of the Premier League goalscoring charts with a second-half double to take his tally to 14, accompanying Kolo and Yaya Toure on the scoresheet as the brothers achieved the rare feat of finding the net in the same top-flight game.
It must have been quite an eye-opener for Dzeko, who produced an encouraging performance on his debut and appears willing to do the hard work in his partnership with Tevez in addition to the glamourous stuff.
The Bosnian was also given an instant lesson in the difficulty of securing points in England as City, having been totally outplayed for the first half-hour, then needed to resist a late Wolves surge after the plucky Black Country outfit had pulled themselves back into a contest that had already been turned on its head after their initial heroics.

Having flexed their mighty financial muscle to make Dzeko the sixth most expensive player the Premier League has ever known, City cannot have expected to be rolled over quite so easily as they were in that opening 30 minutes.
It should not have come as a total surprise.
After all, Wolves beat City at Molineux earlier this season and accounted for both Liverpool and Chelsea during the Christmas period, so they clearly cannot be taken for granted.
Still, the one-sided manner of the contest was a shock, the only consolation for Roberto Mancini coming from the knowledge his side remained in the game.
They were already wobbling when Kolo Toure blasted a clearance into Vincent Kompany, the rebound dropping kindly for Nenad Milijas, who finished at the second attempt despite Joe Hart's initial heroics.
Hart denied Milijas shortly afterwards when the Serbian powered a header towards goal, although there was nothing he could do to prevent Steven Fletcher picking out an unmarked Matt Jarvis at the far post.
Jarvis must have thought he had scored when he pulled the trigger on a shot from 12 yards. Instead, Aleksandar Kolarov flung himself in the way to preserve a fragile state of affairs.
The value of Kolarov's block was not immediately apparent as it took City some time to assert themselves.
But once Adam Johnson had forced Wayne Hennessey into an excellent feet-first save, Wolves began to assume the air of a side who could not wait for the interval to come.
Unfortunately for them, the clock did not speed round quickly enough.
Tevez was only just wide with a fizzing shot, then, after Dzeko had been denied by an excellent Ronald Zubar challenge, Kompany got his head to Johnson's corner and flicked it towards the far post.
Kolo Toure controlled, then went for goal, ignoring the crowd of bodies in his way. His decision proved correct as the shot beat Hennessey, bounced through David Jones' legs and eventually over the line.
It was the Ivorian's first goal of the season. More importantly, it created the platform for normal service to be resumed after half-time.
More than anyone, Tevez had been inconvenienced by Dzeko's arrival, shunted from his favoured central berth to a role wide on the left at kick-off.
The Argentinian is not one for keeping quiet, though.
And, as spectators were still taking their seats, he picked up possession on the angle of the area and exploded into life, bursting through the passive presence of Christophe Berra and Stephen Hunt, then skipping inside Richard Stearman.
The hard work done, the rest was easy as Tevez calmly slipped City in front.
Mancini's men were not done either.
Their third owed much to a neat one-two between Dzeko and Tevez just inside the Wolves half.
The Bosnian then sent Yaya Toure clean through with a perfect through ball, the midfielder following his brother onto the scoresheet with clinical efficiency.
Dzeko came close to a debut goal when his deflected shot flew narrowly wide, but Tevez was in no mood to offer reprieves and when countryman Zabaleta crossed from the right, the Argentina star's header bounced in via the underside of the crossbar.
Amazingly, within seconds Wolves had pulled one back, Doyle getting to his feet to score from the spot after he had been bundled over by substitute Joleon Lescott.
Zubar added another to set up a frantic ending, which would have been sickening for City had Geoffrey Mujangi Bia's stoppage-time shot deflected into the net off Kompany rather than just wide.

Ferguson rues Bale raid failure

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Feguson has admitted he tried to sign Tottenham star Gareth Bale when he was a teenager at Southampton.
The Tottenham star is clearly a man Manchester United must play special attention to as they look to maintain their unbeaten Premier League record.

With 11 goals to his name, including a hat-trick against Inter Milan in the San Siro, the 21-year-old has catapulted himself into an elite group of world stars.
It is talent Ferguson spotted a very long time ago, only to be thwarted in his attempt to get it.
"We tried to sign him as a 16 or 17-year-old boy," reflected the United chief.
"Southampton had a Scottish chief executive and George Burley was the manager.
"I don't know the full circumstances but they didn't accept our offer and I think they must have alerted Tottenham."
It has proved to be a major gain for Tottenham, although not before Bale was switched from a full-back to an orthodox wide player, the high point coming against Inter at the San Siro in October when he scored a sensational hat-trick.
"Bale has made the best contribution without a doubt," said Ferguson.
"Eleven goals for a wide player is a really good return."
Not that Ferguson feels Bale is the only threat.
Rafael van der Vaart has been equally productive in his debut season for Harry Redknapp's men, whilst Luka Modric and Aaron Lennon have ingenuity and pace that cannot be ignored either.
"Van der Vaart has made a contribution goals-wise," said Ferguson.
"He has good ability on the ball, so he has been a good signing and Luka Modric and Aaron Lennon are also dangerous."

But perhaps the biggest worry comes from manager Harry Redknapp, a long-time friend of Ferguson's, who has masterminded a staggering form reversal from the difficult days under Juande Ramos.
"The turnaround since Harry went there is quite startling," said Ferguson.
"His great strength is his commonsense management.
"He doesn't confuse issues. He is a good judge of a footballer and is straightforward in what he demands of them.
"Tottenham's performance level this season, allied to it being their first time in the Champions League, has been excellent.
"But the test for them will be when they combine being back in the Champions League in February and March with the challenge of the league and the FA Cup."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is in no doubt Andrey Arshavin remains a great player and is "desperate" to keep the Russian at Emirates Stadium.
Arshavin has drawn criticism this season for some below-par performances, and was again bitterly disappointing in the 1-0 Carling Cup defeat at Ipswich on Wednesday night, replaced for the final 10 minutes by Carlos Vela.

Reports have suggested the 29-year-old - signed from Zenit St Petersburg in January 2009 - could be set for a £17million move to Juventus.
However, the Arsenal manager insisted Arshavin, who once netted all four goals in a sensational personal display at Liverpool, is going nowhere.
"We have had no contact," Wenger said.
"As soon as a player doesn't play fantastically well, he is criticised. We all know that. I am very happy with Arshavin.
"I believe he is a great player - he is going through a period where it is more difficult for him at the moment.
"But he works very hard in training - his attitude is fantastic and I am desperate to keep him.
"He played almost every single game since the start of the season and has played for his national team as well. Physically he is a bit less fresh."
Arshavin could be back on the bench for Saturday afternoon's late kick-off at Premier League bottom club West Ham.
Wenger continued: "After a breather of a few games he will come back stronger than ever because he works very hard in training.
"As far as I know, I believe he and his wife are happy in London, but what is very important as well is that I am very happy with him."
Wenger also rejected suggestions veteran goalkeeper Manuel Almunia, currently recovering from an ankle problem, was set to join Galatasaray and refused to be drawn on any of his transfer targets.
Arsenal are in the market for a central defender, and have been linked with West Ham's Matthew Upson, who left the Gunners in 2003, as well as Bolton centre-back Gary Cahill, Montpellier's Bosnia and Herzegovina international Emir Spahic and Werder Bremen defender Per Mertesacker.

"The players we have signed recently, especially the defenders, you would never have guessed - not [Thomas] Vermaelen or [Laurent] Koscielny. Let us surprise you if we do something," the Arsenal boss said.
Wenger is also said be a keen admirer of Southampton's £10million-rated 17-year-old Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
However, the Gunners boss once more was giving little away.
"One day this player goes to Chelsea, one day to Man United, one day to Liverpool and one day to Arsenal. We are not close to signing anybody at the moment," Wenger said.
Arsenal could close the gap at the top down to two points as leaders Manchester United do not play until Sunday at Tottenham.
Wenger, though, accepts there can be no repeat of their terrible display against Ipswich, where they lost 1-0.
"If you play like that at West Ham you will lose. We will not play like that at West Ham," he said.

Barcelona president Sandro Rosell is still hoping to sign Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, despite the club's failed attempt to bring in the Catalan midfielder last summer.
Former Barca president Joan Laporta was frustrated in his plans to sign Fabregas before stepping down last year, and Rosell was also unable to recruit the midfielder - who was a youth player at the Catalan club - upon taking over in July.

But Rosell has hinted that a new move for the 23 year-old is likely this summer.
"Will we sign Cesc this summer? I'll tell you in June," the Barca president told reporters at an event in Arenys de Mar.
Rosell also hopes right-back Dani Alves will agree to a new deal to remain at the Nou Camp amid reported interest from Manchester City.
"It would be absurd to end our relationship," he said.
"The two parties will focus on the matter in the best way possible and I am sure there will be no problems - where would he feel better than here?"
Barca, like many clubs in Spain, have spent big over the last few years and are now feeling the pinch of the global financial crisis.
Rosell believes sensible management is called for and says the club's academy - which has already seen the emergence of talents such as Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Leo Messi, Carles Puyol, Gerard Pique and Cesc himself - represents the future for Barca.
"It's important to invest in homegrown players," he said.
"That's our policy and it's the future of football."
Three of the players brought through at La Masia - Messi, Xavi and Iniesta - competed for the Ballon D'or earlier this week, with the Argentinian a surprise winner in the end.
Rosell is proud that three Barca players made the final shortlist and says they all deserved the prize.
"All three of them deserved it - I would have been happy whoever won," he said. "It is a triumph for the club's model."

Howard relishing derby occasion

Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard is happy to be swept along in the hype ahead of Sunday's Merseyside derby - but will switch to professional mode come kick-off.
The American is now in his fifth season with the Toffees and has grown to share the passion and excitement of supporters for one of the game's greatest local rivalries.

Howard enjoyed a 3-0 victory over Liverpool in just his fourth game for Everton in October 2006 but he admits the contest means much more now.
The 30-year-old believes the key to success is understanding how much the fixture means to fans, and that was never more evident than in an FA Cup fifth-round replay two years ago.
Everton won that game with a dramatic Dan Gosling goal late in extra time and the occasion left a big mark on Howard.
The former Manchester United player said: "I think Danny Gosling's goal probably surpasses the 3-0 at Goodison in my first year, only because I didn't quite understand the importance of it then.
"Now it is something I have a passion for. In your first year you can't really appreciate it as much as I do now.
"But the biggest part is to understand the history and the meaning to the club and the supporters, and then flick the switch and become a player.
"You have to put that in the background as best you can and try to perform.
"All the hype does is handcuff and hinder you in terms of being uptight and nervous.
"It's for the supporters to be on edge - that's why they pay their money to enjoy that part of it.
"It's for us to be understand the importance and try to be level-headed amidst that storm."
All of Howard's successes over Liverpool for Everton, including a 2-0 Barclays Premier League win earlier this season, have come at Goodison Park.
The Blues have not won at Anfield, the venue for tomorrow's 215th clash between the neighbouring Merseyside giants, since Kevin Campbell hit an early winner in September 1999.
Everton may feel they have a great chance of ending that sequence this weekend after weeks of turmoil in the red half of the city.
Liverpool's poor start to the season came to a head last Saturday as the club parted company with manager Roy Hodgson and replaced him with Kop legend Kenny Dalglish.
That rejuvenated disillusioned fans but the team still need lifting after an FA Cup loss to Manchester United and a sorry midweek defeat to Blackpool.
By contrast Everton, although only above Liverpool on goal difference, are buoyant after an impressive win over Tottenham and a cup demolition of Scunthorpe.
"It has been something that we are all well aware of," said Howard.
"And any time you go to Anfield it's a good opportunity to be part of history.
"But it is never as easy as that on the day. We know what we are up against - it is a daunting place, a difficult place.
"All of us are up for the challenge but we know what we have in front of us.
TRANSFER SPECIAL

"No matter what are form is like or theirs is like - good, bad or indifferent - it is always a challenge."
Both clubs will go into the game feeling they are under-achieving in mid-table positions.
But after a run of just one win in 10 games, Everton are hoping their back-to-back successes of the past week indicate a turning of the corner.
Howard said: "I think we feel good and performances have been better. Of course it's lifted the mood.
"We felt like our big players were contributing once again.
"Any time you get two wins on the bounce like that, get through in the cup, it's special.
"You need your big players to play with quality and consistency and we hadn't been doing that.
"I don't think I have to name names - but I think there are probably six of them on the team who you think have to perform well for us to play well and be successful.
"That is what has happened in the last month or so and I hope we are on an upward curve. We feel like we are."

Urby Emanuelson's agent has played down reports linking Liverpool with a January transfer window swoop for the Ajax defender.
Reports have suggested Liverpool have targeted the Dutch international to help solve their problematic left-back position.
TRANSFER SPECIAL

Emanuelson's future at Ajax has been the subject of speculation for some time with the player rejecting a new deal at the Amsterdam ArenA and his contract expiring in the summer.
New Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is thought to be keen to bring in some new faces to freshen up the squad at Anfield and Emanuelson has been mentioned as a possible target due to his versatility in that he can play in defence or midfield.
Emanuelson's, representative, Brian Berkleef, insists he has had no contact with Liverpool, but that the Dutchman would consider a move to Anfield if they came calling for his services.
"Nobody from Liverpool has contacted us about Urby, but they are a great club and we would be happy to talk to them if they were to contact us," Berkleef told Sky Sports.
"Obviously there is a lot of clubs interested in Urby as he is a talented player and he is out of contract in the summer.
"It is a bit tricky as Ajax could make some money by selling him now, but I think he will stay until the end of the season as he wants to try and win the championship with Ajax.
"However, if a good offer arrives and Urby feels good about it he would consider moving this month."

Stoke 2-0 Bolton: Higginbotham and Etherington give Potters three points

Published 17:02 15/01/11 By MirrorFootball

The smile was back on the face of Stoke manager Tony Pulis as goals from Danny Higginbotham and Matthew Etherington gave his side victory against Bolton at the Britannia Stadium.
Before kick-off Pulis was shaken by the news his proposed move for Demba Ba for a reported £7.1 million had broke down after Hoffenheim's Senegal striker failed a medical.
But the manager's mood would soon have changed thanks to a comfortable win with the goals coming either side of half-time.
Even though they were bolstered by the return of midfielder Stuart Holden, Bolton were always second best as they slumped to their fifth successive defeat on the road.

Stoke spelled out their intentions as early as the eighth minute when Tuncay Sanli skipped away from Zat Knight down the right. But he failed to test goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen, his cross-cum-shot going wide of the post.
Tuncay, who posted his top 10 goals on Facebook this week, was finding plenty of space on the flanks early on.
He tried to pick out Kenwyne Jones in the 13th minute. However he put too much weight on the cross and the ball drifted out of play.
Then Tuncay tested Jaaskelainen from distance with a chip but his opponent was equal to it. This was a good spell by the home side with Robert Huth heading narrowly over the bar in the 24th minute following a Rory Delap throw-in.
Stoke almost took the lead in the 26th minute after Bolton defender Gary Cahill lost his bearings and whipped a cross from Tuncay over his own bar. From Etherington's corner, Huth escaped his marker, only to head wide of the post.
Bolton were struggling to get going and Holden dragged a shot wide of the post from 25 yards in the 32nd minute after striding forward.
Huth was making life difficult for Bolton by breaking into the box at every opportunity and got on the end of a Delap throw-in but was again out of luck with his effort.
Stoke made the breakthrough in the 37th minute following a corner from Tuncay.
Bolton failed to clear their lines with striker Johan Elmander heading the ball across his own area. Higginbotham took advantage, marking his return to the side by forcing it home at the back post.
Elmander then headed wide of the post following a cross from Sam Ricketts in the 46th minute. And four minutes later Holden came close to equalising, goalkeeper Asmir Begovic doing well to claw away his fine free-kick.
Back came Stoke and Tuncay got away from Knight in the 54th minute only for his effort to go over the bar.
Bolton, however, were showing signings of improvement and Knight released Kevin Davies with a superb long ball only for Huth to make a crucial block.
The visitors were rocked back on their heels, however, in the 62nd minute when Stoke made it 2-0.
Tuncay sent Etherington racing clear and the winger was tripped by Knight as he broke into the box and won a penalty.
Etherington dusted himself down and although Jaaskelainen deflected the ball onto the post it trickled over the line to the goalkeeper's disgust.
Etherington and Tuncay were causing Bolton all kinds of problems with their pace and movement.
And the visitors were looking dispirited after that second goal from Etherington, his fourth of the season.
Tuncay then cut into the area in the 84th minute but his finish was wayward, finishing nearer the corner flag than the goal as Stoke went on to seal an emphatic win.

H-T West Ham 0-2 Arsenal: van Persie and Walcott heap pressure on Grant

Published 18:26 15/01/11 By MirrorFootball

Avram Grant's position was again the centre of speculation as Arsenal took a 2-0 half-time lead at West Ham.
The Irons boss was widely expected to lose his job tonight, regardless of the result, with Martin O'Neill ready to step in.
Arsenal showed the Israeli's team no mercy as goals from Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott put them in command.
West Ham made no official comment on the future of manager Avram Grant ahead of kick-off. Speculation continues to mount the Israeli, only appointed in the summer, will be removed from his position later today, no matter what the result.

The Irons went into the clash bottom of the table, but in some good form, having secured a 2-1 win over Birmingham in the first leg of their Carling Cup semi-final here on Tuesday night.
Grant handed a debut to on-loan Manchester City full-back Wayne Bridge, while Carlton Cole came back in to lead the attack and Radoslav Kovac replaced the injured Scott Parker.
Arsenal, meanwhile, were looking to close the gap on both Manchester United and Manchester City, while also aiming to bounce back from their shock midweek 1-0 cup defeat at Ipswich.
Robin van Persie and Samir Nasri returned to the starting XI, as Wojciech Szczesny continued in goal with Lukasz Fabianski sidelined by a shoulder injury.
All cameras were trained on Grant. After a quick exchange of words and handshake with Arsene Wenger, he took to the home dugout for perhaps his final match.
There was some sense of irony that Grant's likely departure comes at a time when West Ham have been showing some form, having lost just twice in the last seven games heading into today's fixture.
Nevertheless, they remain bottom of the table and were soon on the defensive as Van Persie smashed a 25-yard free-kick into the wall.
Both teams were guilty of some loose possession during the opening exchanges, before Robert Green showed good composure to collect Nasri's deflected strike.
At the other end, Gael Clichy needed to be across quickly to hack Zavon Hines' low centre behind.
West Ham were carved open after 13 minutes when Arsenal worked the ball through Jack Wilshere down the right to Theo Walcott.
Nasri produced a clever step-over from Walcott's cross, which Van Persie fired into the right corner from 12 yards.
Upton Park was left in stunned silence, co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold looking glum in the directors' box.
Home full-back Julien Faubert was then lucky to get away with a yellow card from referee Andre Marriner for jumping in two-footed on Fabregas, which left Wenger unimpressed.
Walcott went close to making it 2-0 when he got ahead of James Tomkins but only managed a tame shot straight at Green.
In the 20th minute, West Ham replaced Mark Noble, who had just come back from a spell on the sidelines after a hip problem, with former Gunner Luis Boa Morte.
There was a let-off for Arsenal when Johan Djourou's backpass was too short and Cole darted in on goal, with Szczesny making a fine block before Hines smashed the rebound over from a tight angle.
Tomkins put his body on the line to block Alex Song as the midfielder looked set for a tap-in after more good work from Arsenal involving Fabregas and van Persie down the left.
The Dutchman was within inches of making it 2-0 when Arsenal broke quickly through Nasri and his first-time pass into the left of the penalty area was crashed against the base of the upright.
West Ham were in danger of being overrun as Wenger's side were finally producing their best form, with Nasri curling another dangerous ball across the face of goal.
However, five minutes before the break Arsenal doubled their lead. Van Persie latched onto Fabregas' ball down the left side of the box, which the Dutchman pulled back from the goalline to the centre, where Walcott crashed it into the roof of the net.
West Ham looked to respond as Freddie Sears' ball in was headed goalwards by Cole, and Djourou deflected it behind.
Chants of 'You are getting sacked in a hour' rang out from the away end as Grant stood at the edge of his technical area, hands in pockets.
During stoppage time, Green produced a brave block as Djourou burst into the left side of the West Ham area.
