Mancini glad 'important' Tevez is staying

Mancini admitted City had blown a great chance to be top at Christmas and celebrate Tevez's decision to stay.
"We are frustrated because we had a big chance to be top at Christmas after 81 years," he said. "Now we must restart, the season is long. I think we understand we can't sleep when we play these games.
"We lost the game in the first 10 minutes because we conceded the first goal too easy from the first chance that they had. After we had a lot of chances. Our defending for the first goal, it was too easy for Cahill to score.
"I'm disappointed that Pablo Zabaleta was off the pitch for the second goal because it is impossible for one player to stay eight minutes in the dressing room. I didn't change the player because I thought after one or two minutes he would come back."

Mancini could take comfort from Tevez pledging his future to the club and he said: "I think it's important news, it is the only good news tonight. It's very important for everyone at the club and for him.
"This is important that we have finished talking about this situation. It is important that this situation is cleared up. Everything went in a good way."
David Moyes hopes Everton's sixth win in seven against City with 10 men can kickstart their disappointing season.
"This was not just a victory," said the delighted Blues boss. "We were playing against a team who could be champions at the end of the season, so it's not just a victory.
"We also came here without a few key players in Pienaar and Arteta and when we were not on the best of runs.
"It was tough enough for us when we had 11 men and I thought the resilience and competitiveness of the team when we went down to 10 men was terrific.
"We did a brilliant job and everyone stuck to their tasks. Tim Cahill epitomised that and I thought he had a great job."

How Man City won the battle to keep Carlos Tevez

Manchester City have won the battle to keep Carlos Tevez after their skipper withdrew his transfer request.
Tevez, who stunned City by demanding to leave, met with senior officials at the club and agreed to stay at Eastlands until at least the end of the season.
City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak and chief executive Garry Cook held a crisis meeting with Tevez on Sunday to resolve the striker's future.
Tevez told the City hierarchy he was happy at the club and gave assurances he would continue to give everything for the team in their title challenge and push for a top four spot.

City boss Roberto Mancini said: "Carlos is a world class player whose contribution since he joined the club has been invaluable.
"I'm pleased that we are now able to focus on pure football matters and to be able to look forward to Carlos continuing to play a significant role in the club's progress."
City see Tevez's remarkable U-turn as a clear proof that his agent, Kia Joorabchian, rather than the player himself, was behind the decision to hand in a transfer request.
And City's decision to play hardball with the Tevez camp has paid off, with the power battle also won by the club in their ongoing conflict with Joorabchian.
Tevez's agent was cut out of the face-to-face talks with the player, the City hierarchy refusing to deal with the controversial agent who has been stripped of his influence at Eastlands.
Joorabchian wanted a new deal for Tevez, but City have stuck to their policy of refusing to negotiate with players or their representatives during a season.
City are also adamant the earliest Tevez can expect a new deal will be the summer of 2012, the club again sticking to their policy of not entering talks until a player is at least halfway through a contract.
Senior figures at City are determined not to be bullied into handing out improved contracts by the likes of Joorabchian, despite the phenomenal wealth at the club through owner Sheikh Mansour's billions.
There is an acceptance at City that they paid over the odds in terms of transfer fees and wages, in order to assemble a squad capable of challenging for the title, but they insist they will be more frugal in future.
UEFA's financial fair play rules, which will force clubs to limit their losses in order to play in the Champions League, are soon to be introduced and will force City to curb their spending.
That is why City are refusing to bow to the demands of greedy agents and why Tevez will have to leave next summer and go elsewhere if he wants a more lucrative deal.

Denilson refuses to rule out Arsenal move

Brazilian midfielder Denilson has refused to rule out leaving Arsenal after becoming a transfer target for Wolfsburg and Barcelona.
Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has recommended the Catalan club make a move for Denilson, according to reports in Spain.
That comes on top of Wolfsburg - managed by under-pressure Steve McClaren - also watching developments on the 22-year-old Arsenal midfielder.
Denilson told Brazilian newspaper O Globo: "I am presently happy with Arsenal but I am a professional player and I can never discard anything in my future."

Former Brazil Youth captain Denilson has become a fringe player at Arsenal, struggling to hold down a regular first team place but Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will not want to sell in January if it means weakening his squad.
Barcelona are keen to strengthen their squad and, in particular, numbers in midfield and remain interested in Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas.
But they also have a pressing need for more squad players as Barca coach Pep Guardiola has only five central midfielders with Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, Javier Mascherano and Seydou Keita and wants cover as much as superstars.
Wolfsburg are wealthy and have money to spend and Arsenal will now face a test of whether they can keep squad players happy when big clubs come calling.
There is also interest from Bayern Munich in Nicklas Bendtner following the Danish striker's recent admissions that he is fed-up of not getting more first team games.
But despite Bendtner's unrest, it is unlikely Wenger will risk selling in January and undermine the club's chances of pushing for the title.
Meanwhile, Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri, 23, has admitted he would like to finish his career with his first professional club, Marseille.
Nasri, voted French Player of the Year, said: "Now my mind is only on Arsenal but if one day I was to leave then my desire would be to go to Marseille, maybe to end my career as a professional."

Chelsea make Modric top transfer target - report

Chelsea have put Luka Modric at the top of their shopping list at the end of the season, according to reports on Tuesday.
Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly identified the Croatia star as the man to revitalise his Chelsea team.
And the man who revealed Chelsea's interest is Dinamo Zagreb vice-president Zdravko Mamic - the same person who negotiated Modric's switch to Tottenham in 2008.
Mamic is believed to have met Ancelotti to discuss the deal.

He is reported to have said: "I was with Ancelotti for lunch. I was very proud when I heard what he said about Modric.
"Luka is top of his list, his first pick when it comes to new signings. I am not Modric's agent - I am just his friend - but I am very proud.
"I don't want to say anything more because I don't want to upset my friends at Tottenham."
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp will be desperate to hold on to one of his most prized assets who has been key in Spurs Champions League success.

Malouda slams Blues' leaky defence

Published 23:00 20/12/10 By Neil McLeman

Florent Malouda has blamed Chelsea's defence for the club's recent slump in form.
And the France star claimed the Premier League was an "open race" this season because no team had taken control.
Carlo Ancelotti's team started the campaign with five consecutive wins against teams outside the top nine while only conceding only one goal.
But a long injury list and the sacking of Ray Wilkins has seen Chelsea slip from top spot to fourth while failing to win in five matches.

The Blues have conceded seven goals in those matches - and kept only one clean sheet in 11 in all competitions.
The defence has still only conceded 12 goals - the stingiest in the top flight.
And despite Chelsea only scoring three in their last five, Malouda hinted at disharmony in the dressing room of the reigning champions by pointing the finger at the back four and goalkeeper.
"When you look at the records we kept a lot of clean sheets at the beginning of the season and now we are conceding goals," he told the Chelsea website. "I don't think in the last six or seven games we have a good defensive record.
"We have one of the most prolific attacks in the league, our main strength was our defence in the first part of the season and I think the reason why we drop is because we are not defending so well."
Chelsea were four points clear of Manchester United last Christmas on their way to the Double.
And Malouda, who has played in all of his club's 17 Premier League matches, said: "It is an open race. We were on top for the first part of this season and now we have dropped so many points that now we are chasing Man United, Arsenal and Man City so I think it is going to be tight until the end of the season.
‘We have the experience of last year when we ended up winning the league with one point ahead and at this period of the year we not so far ahead. I think it is going to be open because there are more teams involved in the race so I think it is going to be interesting to the end."
Malouda reckoned increased competition rather than World Cup fatigue was the reason for the logjam at the top of the table.
"I think the other teams in the league improve every year and try to challenge the top teams and try to get into the top four," said the 30-year-old from French Guyana. "Some teams get the results of their efforts and that is normal when you have more competition.
"We know that the league is the most difficult in the world and there is more competition this year but that doesn't mean the same team won't be on the top at the end.
"It is more difficult for the players who play the international games but we are used to that and that is the reason why we come to the top clubs, to play for national sides."

Terry: There is no division at the Bridge!

John Terry has insisted there are no splits in the camp at Chelsea.
Terry says he has been left "frustrated" at suggestions that dressing room cliques are to blame for the reigning champions' poor run.
Chelsea have lost top spot in the table after failing to win any of their last four Premier League games and that has increased the pressure on Carlo Ancelotti.
It has also led to question marks whether there is in-fighting, especially since the departure of Chelsea boss Ancelotti's assistant Ray Wilkins.

But Terry says Chelsea will come back strongly over Christmas and the New Year and says the squad is together and firmly believe they will win the title.
Chelsea captain Terry said: "I have seen a couple of things about the players questioning each other and not being committed enough - it's absolute rubbish. It's so frustrating to read.
"The players are so passionate about turning this corner and going on a good run. We believe playing like we did against Spurs, we can win the League again.
"As long as we stay solid on the pitch, the fans stay with us, I'm sure playing like this, we're going to be back."
Ancelotti has admitted he does not have as much control at Chelsea as Sir Alex Ferguson enjoys at Manchester United.
His former assistant Wilkins also had a strong link between Chelsea's English core as well as being able to bind together a strong dressing room spirit.
But Ancelotti is now trying to galvanise the squad after a poor run while also trying to shrug off rumours about his own future as manager being in doubt.
Terry insists that he is confident Chelsea will turn it round and says he is happy with his own form despite the club's poor run.
"People question me all the time but I feel that I am playing very well at the moment even though we are going through a sticky patch," Terry said.
"We all have a lot more to give, I feel I have more to give even though I'm playing well."
Terry has also just turned 30 and has four years left on his current Chelsea contract and, despite persistent back problems, he insists that retirement is the furthest thing from his mind.
In fact, England defender Terry says he is even eyeing up a new contract extension as he says he is ready to fight for his place in the defence even if the club makes new, younger signings.
Terry added: "I have four years left on my contract here and I want to extend that. I'd love to set massive milestones at the club and continue playing at the highest level.
"I know there will come a point when I'm not good enough and there will be younger players or signings coming in to replace me," he admitted.
"I'm big enough and old enough to accept that. But I will give it a right good go till the end.
"On the whole I do feel really fit. I still feel as if I'm 18 even though I look a bit older than that and I'm looking forward to making many more appearances for the club."

Carson Yeung has been forced to clarify *Birmingham's spending plans after Alex McLeish bemoaned a lack of cash.
City boss McLeish last week suggested the club would only bring in players on loan in January. The comments angered Blues supporters with the team 16th in the Premier League.

He said: "We will consider each request on a need to buy basis. We will not buy for the sake of it."

McLeish's actions are thought to have been aimed at getting rival clubs to reduce prices.

Clara Alphonce

Carroll going nowhere, insists Pardew

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has warned Tottenham and any other potential suitors off a move for England striker Andy Carroll.
Carroll has put aside a turbulent season off the field by scoring 10 goals this season in Newcastle's impressive start to life back in the Barclays Premier League.
That has led to not just an international debut but also speculation over the 21-year-old's future. North London has been mentioned as a possible destination - but Pardew insists the player is going nowhere.
"It does get boring but it is not going to stop - it will never stop," he said.

"It will not stop simply because he's a talent and that happens at the big clubs. We have to have a big-club mentality and hold on to our best players.
"It just goes to show you his value at the moment. Andy just has to keep working hard and doing what he does best. His career path is here.
"He has already proved that playing for Newcastle United will not hinder his international career, so why does he need to go? He loves it here and loves the fans - long may it continue."

Mchakato wa uchaguzi FRAT wasogezwa Februari Monday, 20 December 2010 20:16

Calvin Kiwia
