Two Helicopters and a Submarine
Octopus has a large helicopter hangar on the main deck, giving shelter to two helicopters. The yacht has a large glass bottom pool and a 10 person submarine. The submarine and the main tender (named Man of War) float into the yacht through a large hatch. The two helicopters on the Octopus bear the registration numbers N904AF and N76AF. The first one is a MD900 and the second a Sikorsky S-76C.
A Music Recording Studio
The yacht has a music recording studio on the bridge deck. Other features include an observation lounge, a cinema, a juice bar near a gym, a salon and a medical center.
A Private Owners Deck
The owner has his dedicated deck, with a large study, a walk-in closet and an outside bar with whirlpool. There is a large VIP cabin, 4 guest cabins, a children's cabin and two additional staff/doctors cabins. The exterior was designed by Espen Øino Naval Architects. The interior was designed by American designer
Jonathan Quinn Barnett of Seattle. Paul Allen also owns the yacht Tatoosh and the Feadship Meduse. In January 2016

Bill Gates Yacht
Octopus is often referred to as the
Bill Gates yacht, however Bill Gates is not the owner of the yacht Octopus. As far as SuperYachtFan knows Bill Gates does not own a yacht. In the winter season 2013/2014 Octopus went to Hamburg, Germany for a refit.
Cannes Film Festival
Every year in May, Paul Allen hosts a themed party during the Cannes Film Festival. In May 2014 Paul hosted a party on board Octopus during the Cannes International Film Festival. Guests included Dolph Lungren, Sharon Stone and Entourage star Adrian Grenier. In 2015 the theme was Bollywood, in 2016 the theme was Shakespear. Guests included Mick Jagger, Mischa Barton, and Chloe Sevigny.
Research
Octopus is a member of Automated Mutual Assistance Vessel Rescue (AMVER), a voluntary group ship reporting system used worldwide by search and rescue authorities to arrange quick and easy assistance for anyone in distress at sea. Octopus has assisted on several occasions in recent years, including an air and sea search in the waters of Palau looking for missing police officers and their pilot.
Musashi
In March 2015 A research team led by Paul G. Allen has located the Musashi, one of the world’s largest and most technologically advanced battleships. The ship was sunk during World War II and, despite numerous eyewitness accounts, the exact location of the ship was unknown. Using historical records from four different countries, detailed topographical data and advanced technology aboard his yacht, M/Y Octopus, Mr. Allen and his team discovered the wreckage in the Sibuyan Sea off the Philippines on March 1, 2015. Research Vessel (R/V) Petrel
Paul Allen also owns the Research Vessel Petrel. The 76 meter (250 ft) Petrel was acquired early 2017 and was retrofitted with state-of-the-art subsea equipment capable of diving to 6,000 meters (or three and a half miles). The vessel used to be known as AcergyPetrel and was active as a pipeline inspection vessel. The vessel was built in 2003, and is equipped to support all aspects of pipeline inspection, seabed survey and ROV operations and can accommodate up to 50 people onboard.
USS Indianapolis Wreckage Found
In August 2017 the RV Petrel discovered the wreckage of the USS Indianapolis, 5,500 meters below the surface, resting on the floor of the North Pacific Ocean. The Indianapolis was lost in the final days of World War II when it was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine. Prior to the attack, the Indianapolis had just completed its secret mission of delivering components of one of the two nuclear weapons that were dropped on Japan. Read more at

USS Lexington Wreckage Found
Early March 2018 Paul Allen's research vessel #Petrel found the wreckage of the World War II-era aircraft carrier USS Lexington, 76 years after it was sunk in the Coral Sea. The Lexington is one of the first aircraft carriers built by the U.S. It went down in 1942 with 216 crew members and 35 aircraft on board, and it's finally been found. More
