Mobile app developers wa bongo User Interface vipi ?

Nimedownload apps nyingi nyingi kdg ambazo zimetengenezwa na developers wa tanzania, wengi naona wanadevelop for android, nahisi labda market kubwa iko huko bongo, iOS wameisahau kabisaa!!

Swali langu moja tu, content ipo vizuri, ila User Interface aisee mbona mbaya hivyo?? Yaani unakuta imepangwa pangwa tu utadhani mtu aliweka HTML code peke yake... afu kwa wanaopenda sana android, kwa nini msitengeneze apps kwa kutumia HTML5 na Javascript kuzifanya zitumike kwenye platform zote maana apps nyingi nilizoona hazihitaji hata native code, nyingi zina texts tu na some images..

Wenye apps, nini kinawafanya mshindwe kutengeneza user interface nzuri??
 

Programmers wengi hua wanadharau designing wakati wakiwa vyuoni(they actually look down on designers), sasa wakitoka huko hua wanaweza kuandika code lakini designing inawapiga chenga, i remember before i started doing programming my friends who started learning programming earlier were always asking me to help them design, matokeo yake:- most Programmers can't design and end up making ugly apps unless they hire a UI/UX guy to design a nice interface for them, Tatizo jingine most designers especially graphic designers huwa wanaishia kwenye kutengeneza matangazo tu na brochures and stuff of that nature, hakuna (kama wapo basi ni wachache sana) ambao wanaextend services zao hadi kwenye kudesign UI. Another thing is web designers wa bongo wanategemea wordpress themes and unfortunately Wordpress can't help them kwenye apps.
 

Hii hali mbaya sana, kama flat UIs ziko very smart afu rahisi sana kutengeneza, ujuzi wa Photoshop kidogo tu unatosha kabisa kutengeneza kitu cha kueleweka.. Software yenye UI mbaya unajua haivutii kabisa hata mtu kutumia
 
Hii sio tanzania tu, 90% ya app zote kwenye hizi store ni ----. Kuhusu kutumia hizi cross platform html/javascript framework app inakuwa inakosa ubora fulani yaani ukiitumia unapata feeling kitu sio native na performance nayo sio nzuri hata kwenye vitu basic kama kupress button.

Kuhusu iOS kwa bongo haina soko kabisa na ina gharama kubwa kwa developer kwenye vifaa na membership ya store pia ni ngumu kuanza programming kwenye iOS unahitaji mac na hiyo developer membership na ni ngumu kusambaza app outside ya appstore tofauti na Android unaweza kugawa apk mtu yoyote anaweza install, kwenye iOS hili haliwezekani.

Mimi ningesema kama unategemea downloads na app yako hata Android sio viable kwa kulenga soko la Tanzania kwa hiyo business model za kuuza au kuonyesha matangazo ya AdMob kwa App inayolenga TZ haina tija, watumiaji wa smartphone ni wachache sana.
 

mbona zipo tools nyingi tu za kufanya wordpress iwe native, mimi sio developer ila huwa na experiment na hivi vitu kidogo unaweza kudesign na mobile theme ya wp au html5 na jquerry halafu ukatumia phonegap ukapata ui nzuri tu ambayo ipo native
 
Kuna developers wanaofanya kazi nzuri pia. Tatizo ni kwamba watanzania wengi katika nyanja mbalimbali wanafanya kazi bila ushirikiano. Mtu anafikiri anaweza kufanya kila kitu peke yake... Which is wrong.
 
Here is my take on the topic:

1. UX design: UX design is a career on its own most people don't do it but that's no excuse for having ugly UI in applications, if anything developers should stick to basics and they tend to work pretty well. I'm no expert but some of the apps I've seen are really ugly.

2. iOS: The reason most developers in Tanzania develop for Android is because of complexity and costs related with developing for iOS. Complexity in the form kuwa Objective-C is not a mainstream taught language and people prefer not to learn it, developing for iOS requires a Mac and an iOS device, and finally the yearly $99 iOS developer fees. In the end the effort does not justify the effort for many.

3. Hybrid Applications: I've spent the last 7months working on hybrid application, written in Javascript for the most part and other parts in native code for each platform, and then they compile to native applications for iOS, Android, Web etc. Honestly from my experience this is the toughest thing of all, hybrid applications are a pain and the end result isn't as good as native apps. I would happily advice anyone to go the native way anyday of the week and twice on sunday. The best way to do cross-platform applications is writing the core part in C++ and write Objective-C for iOS, Java for Android etc, they both have tools to talk to C++.

4. Application development: I used to write utility applications, so many stupid apps and many of them didn't even see the light of the day and I stopped for the following reasons: I think most application developers focus on simple utility applications and front end instead of investing in something big. Most applications people do depend on some other APIs or web services brute forced together, I've seen few people try to do robust backend/server side or creating their own services and APIs which gives them total control. We don't have something like dropbox, lyft, netflix, whatsapp and many triple A titles because we don't write anything from scratch.

I think "best" is subjective but here is my take. Most ugliness comes from trying to do much wakati if you stick to basics like holo or material design guidelines the results are pretty good as long as you get the colors right.

Some good examples are:
1. Kurasa Apps
2. Moview
3. Moviplex(iOS) no idea ipo wapi sikuhizi because I can't see it in the app store

Basically any app done using android or iOS design guidelines will look good because it blends in na the OS, most fanciness makes it feel out of place(same thing web apps do)

I use Ubuntu mostly for its community and support for many packages, but i fancy Arch Linux more just because i like to be on the latest and greatest so the rolling release on arch is just perfect
