Yesterday our minister for information, culture, art and sports Mr Harrison Mwakyembe met various so called stakeholders to try to form some kind of strategy regarding developing football in our country.

Among them were leaders of TFF, executive committee of CAF and other old football figures such as Mr Leodgar Tenga who once headed the Tanzania football federation for before he was succeeded by Jamal Malinzi who is now in remand for suspicion of corruption and mismanagement of public funds.

Without dwelling too much on this article which you will find useful once you have finished reading, I would like you to revolutionise our country sports.

When talking about revolutionise I mean you minister who is responsible for our sports in our country, you have responsibility of creating a strategy of where our sports is heading.

Thanks for Alphonce Simbu for winning bronze medal but do you know how much Usain Bolt worth?

Usain Bolt worth over 45 million pounds and only 1/7 million pounds come from winning races.

This year he will be 23rd highest-earning athlete in the world, while Forbes's current rich list placed the sprinter at number 88.

A full-time athlete in the United States earns around £12,780 a year equivalent of 16,600 US Dollars or 37,160,000 Tanzanian Shillings, whilst those in Canada face an annual deficit of £10,750 equivalent to 13,691 US Dollars or 31,256,000 Tanzanian Shillings.

That's the amount of just over 3,000,000 or 2,604,733 Tanzania shillings a month, it worth it for a Tanzania athlete to earn such money isn't it?

Again Usain Bolt , who peaked in 2013 as the 48th highest-earning celebrity in the world, is set to earn a further £3,100,000 a year as a global ambassador for Puma until 2025, and also boasts endorsement deals with Gatorade, Hublot, Virgin Media, Visa, and Nissan Motors.

But how Usain Bolt got where he is now? the answer is races, sponsorships and supporters.

In terms of sponsorship, Bolt jostles not with other track stars, but global icons like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and LeBron James, and years featuring in major championships make him an even hotter commodity for his 10 global and seven regional partners.

England team Everton came to Tanzania in July this year where Tanzania had chance to see Wayne Rooney, but this was just not coming to Tanzania and go. Do you know the reason behind Wayne Rooney's decision to accept leaving Mancheter United and go to Everton?

The reason is Everton now have Kenyan Sponsors SportPesa who organised their pre-season tour in Africa.

But the rear reason after all is the Everton's plans to become a major club in Merseyside and its owner Farhad Moshiri with Chinese consortium who have planned to make revolution at the club.

First, they want to float the club in Hong Kong stock market which will double the club value to nearly 400 million pounds.

Secondly, Mr Moshiri has secured a major sponsorship deal worth 75milion pounds which will roll for five years from multi national company known as USM which deals with mining.

Third, Everton plan to expand their stadium from the current 45000 to 60000 which is 6000 more than their Merseyside arch rivals Liverpool and that alone will net their revenue to 2 million pound for every home game.

Also Everton have secured a credit facility with Chinese Commercial bank in excess of 60 million pounds which will keep things going.

So, in Everton you have partners, sponsors and supporters.

When use these examples I'm trying to build the picture or concept on how we can change our nation thinking regarding sports in general.

There changes to be made and these will see our young males and females become world unknowns to knowns and make history following Simbu success.

You need to create or form a new code of governance which will see all national bodies of sports working together and become compliant to the code.

If sports bodies do not adhere to the code and cannot demonstrate full commitment to becoming compliant with its requirements they will not be eligible to receive public funding.

Governance requirements include:

1 Greater transparency whereby the national bodies will open up their accounts books ready for scrutiny to show how they spend the funds.

2. Increased skills and diversity in decision making - with a target of at least 30 per cent gender diversity on boards - and a commitment to greater diversity more generally, so we don't see older generations stay in positions for years.

3. Time limits for members of federations.

There is no sport which doesn't go without money and this has been the major problem for our sportsmen and women.

I look at the under 17 boys and girls who went to India for Commonwealth games and is sad to see they come home some of them with sandals.

Our national lottery can become our sports major funding source as people will be buying many tickets so long as the games are designed to make more attractive to players with good prize money.

So you will have funding partners which are the ministry and national lottery.

Then you have to find the official partners who will help the sports teams when needed such as hotels and airlines.

Because you will always make sure our country is participating fully in every sport event in the world you will need the official supplier who will look after athletes and will be supplying them with kits such as trainers, running shoes and other important sport equipment.

Lastly, you will need strategic partners who are the sports bodies. These will insure the sports are encouraged from the grass roots to the national level in order to obtain the full team of Tanzania which one day will become so successful and make the history of our country in sports.

If you look at the whole picture of concept you can see sports need sports bodies who will look after preparation, funding, sponsorships and strategic partners, and without these ingredients will not get anywhere.

We have to revolutionised our sports make them good source of revenue, marketing driven sports and main source of employment so it helps young generation to prosper.

At the moment , I'm sorry to say your plans are not working but you still have room for improvement.
