As a literary analyst I conquer with you that the author is mixing up the tenses... He writes as if he wants to introduce a play but it isn't a play.i think he deserves to be a playwright rather than a novelist.

Yeah sort of,but he can be whatever he wants to be whether a play writer or a novelist.According to my own perspective,the guy should put more effort on improving his language.And when writing,he should take his time.He wrote that story as if he was in hurry.
