BLANTYRE, Malawi, May 16 (UPI) -- Former Malawi President Bakili Muluzi cannot run for a third term, the country's constitutional court said in dismissing his appeal. The court ruled against Muluzi Friday, ending his hope of running in next week's election, the BBC reported Saturday.

Allowing him to run, would have violated a law on term limits, the court said.

Muluzi, who served two consecutive five-year terms and left office in 2004, plans to appeal to the nation's supreme court but will not interfere with Tuesday's election, said his lawyer, Kalekeni Kaphale.

Muluzi, meanwhile, is to go on trial this year for allegedly stealing $12 million in aid money during his time as president, the British network reported.

In Tuesday's election, President Bingu wa Mutharika of the Democratic Progressive Party is seeking a second term. His opponent is John Tembo of the Malawi Congress Party.

Two terms is enough!!!!...Hawa watu sijui vipi aisee.

Another Greedy African Leader thwarted!!

Two terms is enough!!!!...Hawa watu sijui vipi aisee.

MALAWI CONSTITUTION: "The President, the First Vice-President and the Second Vice-President may serve in their respective capacities a maximum of two consecutive terms"

Sahihisha hapo mkulu. Nadhani ulinuia kusema vipindi viwili, and not miaka miwili
