Incompetent ambassadors are the main reason for low levels of cooperation between the two countries. If you want to understand why some countries get in conflict, under co-operate relative to their potential and eventually weaken their international relation — look no further than the quality of their ambassadors.
Recently Tanzania had an election which was fair and peaceful according to Tanzanian themselves, election observers, civil societies, and members from many opposition parties (except two political parties) and the litmus test for this is the interview conducted by different TV stations to voters on 28th October 2020.
However, the US embassy statement on the Tanzanian election which was published on 29th October 2020 has indicated incompetent of the embassy team by issuing a fallacious statement on this election. When you read their statement you will note the following incompetence indicators:-
First, the statement has acknowledged that the election was fair and peaceful, this acknowledgment was important because no one could have believed otherwise. This is because the majority of Tanzanian, election observers, civil societies, and all the opposition parties except Chadema and Act-Wazalendo have cherished this election as the best happened.
Second, issuing statements as an initial response to an allegation without listening to both sides indicates a high level of incompetency. Best practice requires you to ask yourself if the information you have is true or not? then find out who is the source, and it's trustworthy, the reason for the source to spread the allegation, and listening to the other part. The allegations were made by few opposition leaders from Chadema and Act-Wazalendo against the electoral commission and police, we expected the statement issued after hearing the police and electro commission.
Third, always prevention is better than cure; few protesters with malicious intent could have caused bloodshed in some parts of the country and this could have justified your hidden intention. The detention of protesters was necessary for the election to be free and fair. The best practice is that Election Day should not involve demonstration and campaign as this may result in violence.
Fourthly, the Tanzanian Government knows better how to balance between democracy and its national security. Security threats are NOT excepted to the rule of law and reductions of liberties. The US will never promote what is good for African whether is within the US or outside the US, minority black American have been oppressed and still being oppressed.
We argue you to respect Tanzanian decision and cooperate with elected leaders for the betterment of our two nations. (US and Tanzania)
