I have heard people say that putting a little sand in your little one's mouth when he starts doing that may help as biting on it makes him unconfortable. its not medically proven but its worth a try.

My daughter is having same problem she is 6 years, i went to see ent speacialist - 3 of them . They all said its signs of having adenoids - ugonjwa wa tezi za pua, hiyo ni moja ya dalili. So i suggest uende ukamuone ent specialist acheki kama ana hilo tatizo. For my case they suggested operation which i am still thinking about it.
