4
To implement the Second Phase of Cost Sharing Policy which require a student, parent or
guardian to meet costs for meal and accommodation, with effect from the 1994/95 academic
year, any Government sponsored undergraduate student admitted to the University is free to
apply for a loan to meet meal and accommodation, Books and stationery costs. The details of
the loan are outlined in the forms specifically designed for this purpose. The money will be
loaned by the Higher Education Students Loan Board on behalf of the Government and will be
paid first at MU account and in the following days the money will be deposited direct to the
students/ Bank Account. Any student eligible for this loan will be required to fill in the forms
HESLB and form SLF1 and SLFII. Please not that usually the loans to students are paid on an
installment plan and not in lump sum.
Normally there is a possibility of the loan being delayed; you are therefore advised to bring with
you enough money to cover meals and accommodation, until such time when the loan is
secured. There is no ways the University will lend you money to meet any of your expenses.
NB: You are advised to open your own account (using the names appearing in your
certificates) so that loan to meet your meals and accommodation allowances be deposited in
your personal account.

University Accommodation Policy which provides categories of students to be given first
priority for example students with disabilities and foreign students. Therefore those who will
fail to secure accommodation on campus are advised to secure off campus accommodation
elsewhere.
For those who will secure on campus accommodation all rooms are shared. The charge for
accommodation is currently Tshs. 500/= per bed per day making a total of Tshs. 119,000/= a
year. All students are restricted from paying any advance money for accommodation until one
has secured a room.
The information in 9(a) to 9 (d) is meant for those who will secure on campus accommodation:
(a) Bedding
The University does not provide students with bed linen. You are there4fore advised to
bring the following items with you:-
(i) One pillow (iii) Two bed sheets
(ii)Two blankets (iv) One mosquito net
(b) Keys
You will be provided with one key for your room and one for your locker. Keys should be
looked after carefully. In case of a loss, you will bear the cost of replacing the lock let alone
the considerable inconvenience you will have caused to the Administration. Keys must be
returned to the Hall Janitor when vacating your room. Failure to do so will necessitate a
charge equivalent to boarding charges for each day the key remains in your possession or
disciplinary action will be taken against you.
5
NB: The University does not have facilities for students with children/infants:
Students with infants/children are required to look for off-campus
accommodation.
(c) Cleanliness of Rooms

facility. For the forthcoming academic year, the recommended minimum student
maintenance cost is Tshs. 7,500/= per day per student. One academic year covers 34 weeks
of two semesters which is equivalent to 238 days. Students should therefore, budget for
approximately Tshs. 1,785,000/= for meals for the whole academic year. This is paid to
students directly by sponsors.
NB: It is strictly prohibited for students to cook in their rooms. Any student
breaching this regulation will be punished according to students By-Laws.
(e) For more information about off campus accommodation find attached forms A/6 Applicants

Organization (MUSO). Through this organization, students communicate to the University
authority matters affecting their welfare.

provided 24hrs by a team of qualified medical practitioners. Emergency cases requiring
specialist attention are referred to the main referral hospital according to professional needs.
NHIF Members are also equality served at the Health Centre. Note that:
 Attendance to MU Health Centre as a patient is not enough to excuse from routine
academic duties and responsibilities (lecture attendance, assignments, tests and
examinations), unless one has documentation related to bed rest, ED or admission.
 The direct self referral to hospitals of preference is not honored by the University
authority; hence you will receive neither financial (including transport) not academic
support attention. Since 2010 the Regional Hospitals were upgraded to become regional
referral centre, therefore in case referral is necessary, you will be referred to Morogoro
regional Hospital. If your health will require further attention, Morogoro Regional
authority might refer you to Muhimbili National Hospital.

The MU Library and Technical Services Directorate offers a variety of facilities to the
University Community. It has a collection of over 40,000 book volumes and over 800
periodical titles, both national and international. Majority of books have been automated and its
bibliographic details can be accessed from anywhere through the internet or online catalogue at
www.library.mzumbe.ac.tz The collection covers all the major programmes taught at the
University, and it also supports the research activities of the University.

photocopy services; access to subscribe electronic resources through a special programme
offered under the consortium of Tanzania University and Research Libraries (COTUL) and the
International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications (INASP). Other services

required to undergo medical examination by a registered medical practitioner before coming to
this University. Under no circumstances will the University accept forms not completed and
signed by a public qualified medical practitioner.
You are therefore, requested to present the enclosed form A/4 and A/5 to a registered Medical
Practitioner, requesting for a medical examination. The filled in/signed form is to be submitted
during registration and a copy sent to the Health Service Directorate.
19. General

Afanye kabla ajaanza registration
