Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has met King Charles III of the United Kingdom during the launch of the Commonwealth Nature Initiative in Antigua and Barbuda, where she highlighted Uganda’s environmental conservation commitments.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), where King Charles also interacted with other government leaders and business representatives.
During their closed-door meeting, Nabbanja briefed the King on Uganda’s development priorities, including the need for support to fund the Standard Gauge Railway project. She also invited him to visit Uganda.
Addressing the Commonwealth Nature Initiative, Nabbanja called on the Commonwealth Secretariat to support nature-related initiatives, noting that more than 70% of Ugandans depend on nature for their livelihoods.
The initiative also received support from Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and other heads of government.
Nabbanja later addressed the Commonwealth Business Forum at the Antigua Cricket Arena.
The 2026 CHOGM is taking place from November 2 to 4 under the theme, “Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth.” The meeting brings together leaders from the 56 Commonwealth member states in Antigua and Barbuda.
