OVERALL JOB FUNCTION:
The International Center for AIDS Care & Treatment Programs (ICAP)at the Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University, is seeking Pediatricians to work in Tanzania. Incumbents will work with ICAP clinicians and with local HIV care and treatment teams to guide the development of local ICAP programming for infants, children and teens.



He/she will also work with local and national ministries of health (MOH), NGOs, local partners and collaborating agencies to guide the development of national and local guidelines and policies for children with HIV. Perform site visits and site assessments of ICAP treatment facilities to insure and develop mechanisms to include pediatric services. Provide supervision and mentoring to ICAP clinicians around the care and antiretroviral treatment of infants, children and teens. Develop linkages with pMTCT programs to ensure follow-up of HIV-exposed infants. Develop systems (laboratory and clinical) to institute early infant diagnostic testing at ICAP-affiliated sites. Institute programs to identify HIV-exposed and infected children including inpatient pediatric testing programs, pediatric HIV testing in adult clinics, linkages with OVC, etc.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Advanced medical degree required (MD or equivalent).


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
2 years experience with pediatric care and treatment including antiretroviral therapy. Excellent oral and written communication skills. In addition candidate must have experience in developing-country health care programs. Fluency in spoken and written English. Some travel to program sites in sub-Saharan Africa is required. Candidate should anticipate spending a significant amount of time at site and program visits

JOB TITLE: Lab Advisor

REPORTS TO: Director of Programs

LOCATION: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

The International Centre for AIDS Care and Treatment Programs (ICAP) at the Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University is working in partnership with the Ministry of Health of Tanzania to establish HIV/AIDS Care and Treatment and PMTCT-plus services at several referrals, regional and district-level hospitals in Tanzania. This program is part of a US Government initiative against HIV in Tanzania that receives funding from CDC.

OVERALL JOB FUNCTION:
To provide State-level technical support in the planning and implementation of high quality laboratory services required for HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment services within facilities supported by CU in coordination with the Tanzania Ministry of Health and ICAP staff in Tanzania.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:In coordination with The Regional Lab Advisor (RLA) and Director of Program, the Lab Officer is responsible for the following activities:
  • To assist with the planning and implementation of Laboratory activities required for CU-supported HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment programs in Tanzania, including baseline lab assessments and laboratory capacity development at sites in assigned Regions.
  • To provide technical assistance to facility-level lab personnel, including regular and systematic observation of laboratory testing procedures, and ongoing bench-level supportive supervision and instruction.
  • To provide technical assistance to facility-level lab managers, including: establishing routine workflows; developing/refining SOPs, job aids, log books, and referral forms as needed; planning of lab activities to improve test performance and decrease turn around time; and developing and implementing an equipment maintenance program.
  • To provide technical assistance in specifics techniques like: PCR, CD4 counting, ELISA, Rapid Test, hematology and Biochemistry tests.
  • To help implement and monitor efficient documentation of laboratory results at the sites, as well as effective linkages between laboratory and clinical services. To prepare reports on progress of each site on project implementation activities
  • To assist in the implementation of quality management/quality assurance activities
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • For Associate Research Scientist: Ph.D., Ed.D, or other equivalent.
  • For Sr. Staff Associate: Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree plus a minimum 8 years related experience in the areas of HIV/AIDS care and treatment, health care programs in resource limited settings.
  • For Staff Associate: Bachelor's degree in or other equivalent degree plus a minimum 4 years related experience in the areas of HIV/AIDS care and treatment, health care programs in resource limited settings.
  • A valid certificate to practice as a medical laboratory scientist is mandatory. Candidates must have experience in techniques like: PCR, CD4 counting, ELISA, Rapid Test, hematology and Biochemistry.
  • Candidate must be prepared to travel out of station frequently and at short notice to different ICAP Tanzania program regions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
A Master's degree in medical laboratory science or related disciplines with at least 2 years experience in a practical setting. Knowledge and experience in the design, implementation and management of laboratory services especially for HIV/AIDS. Computer skills, including ability to use Word and MS Excel Good written and verbal communications skills in English

Broadcast Journalists fulfill a range of duties including writing for radio, editing, reporting, news reading and producing programmes.

Reporting lines
Report to the News SBJs and through them to BBC WM's Assistant Editor.

To write stories, scripts, links and other material for BBC WM which is Birmingham and the Black Country's only speech based radio station.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • On initial recruitment, either a recognised journalistic qualification or substantial practical experience in journalism (likely to be around 3 years).
  • People with a similar amount of experience in broadcast journalism may be appointed at a higher level within the salary range.
  • First class news judgment.
  • Good broadcasting and on-air skills where appropriate.
  • Good writing skills.
  • Ability to originate and develop programme stories.
  • Ability to work co-operatively as part of a small team.
