Nairobi Commuter Rail Phase 1 Progress

By the way I have no idea where KR hide their trains. Recently I managed to steal a glance and saw the "Queen Victoria train" which is the presidential VIP train.
she was gorgeous, I could not take a photo due to the many policemen there.

Further progress is being made as the new commuter trains wait to finish testing.
i) The whole rail corridor is being fenced as we speak.
ii) Ballasting and track repair of the Imara Daima-syokimau-athi river route is almost complete.
iii) General motors has already started working with KR on the mass transit bus specifications and on board electronics needed for integration between trains and buses i.e One ticket for commuter train and the bus.

Frequently asked questions
Q) Why did we not do a line like addis ababa in ethiopia?
A) Because Nairobi metropolitan area already has about 400 km of existing MGR rail infrastructure and addis ababa started from nothing. This means unlike many cities in sub saharan africa, majority of Nairobi citizens live on average about 2.9 km from a rail track i.e wider coverage which means rehabilitating the already existing rail track ,building more stations and modern commuter rolling stock means Nairobi will move more people and have a wider reach than ethiopia's 2 lines of 29.9 km.

Q) Why was BRT plan shelved?
A) BRT was a good plan on paper. It is a way of trying to copy a commuter rail system but with buses instead of trains. NAMATA, nms ,KR and world bank decided that for Nairobi , there was no need for an extensive BRT system. Nairobi already had an extensive MGR rail network coverage of 400 km and it will be cheaper to put the existing rail network to good use than to break ground on a BRT system. Another reason is commuters, Nairobi has about 1.7 million commuters every day. A BRT system can not deal with that large number unless you get over 800 buses capable of transporting at minimum 160 commuters.

Q) What will the capacity of Nairobi commuter rail (NCR) be?
A) In Phase 1 NCR will target about 140,000 commuters daily on an hourly service on 5 lines running 160 km. This is the quick wins phase, on completion of all phases of the NCR i.e. Phase II and III, NCR will have capacity for 2.9 million commuters daily by 2027.

Q) Will the NCR be double tracked?
A) Yes in phase III, new greenfield tracks going to outer towns e.g. Ongata rongai, Ruai,Ngong, Kiambu e.t.c and the current track network will all be double tracked to enable 10 minute intervals between departures from the current 1 hour in phase 1.

Q) Why are we still planning for buses?
A) The buses will offer the last mile advantage to NCR from the stations to your final destination. The buses will be high capacity buses like what you would see in a BRT but without all the added baggage of a BRT e.g. stations. The buses will be integrated into the NCR system to make sure you only use one ticket on the train and on the bus.

Last I checked, rural areas do not light up in a map if they are of low density and Kenya's high density areas are clearly lighting up. and those are the places that have 80 percent of Kenya's population that is The Highlands, Lake Basin and the Coast
75 PERCENT of Kenyans have access to electricity as of 2018. Today, even if you go to the interior of Tetu or the hills of Teso near the Uganda border or even the shopping centers of West Pokot, there is electricity
This has been confirmed by many agencies and news outlets
The World Bank
Privacy Shield

By your retarded Analogy, Egypt has a low electricity rate because only the Nile Valley is lit up and not the Sahara desert .SMDH. Like Kenya, most of the people live in specific areas, not all over.
Your retarded logic would also conclude Russia has no electicity because most of Siberia has no lights right?? SMDH.

Now if we go to Tanzania
lOOOOOL!!!No wonder you only use maps which say little about access and never data from authoritative sources .32%???? That is like Kenya in Kibaki's first term or something!!!

Wow. I was not aware that we were doing LPG conversion in Kenya. That is interesting. Ksh 55,000 for a coversion is not alot.
I was aware Hashi does it or rather the people who do it tend to be at the Hashi stations.

Did you know?
The Nairobi Central station was built from the first stone building in Nairobi in 1904, which was a catholic church. The british government, then moved and financed the church reconstruction, which is now the Catholic Basilica Of The Holy Family
