As explained by charles hinga, a lot more needs to be done in the next 4 years in order to reduce traffic in Nairobi by 60%.
i) They need to expand the existing network to limuru and outer urban centres like ruai, ongata rongai, ngong etc.
ii) They need to double track the whole network in the next 4 years.
iii) More rolling stock even for the current 5 lines is being sourced. He hinted at 40 more units to bring the service to 1/2 an hour intervals across all the current and planned 20 lines.
iv) More stations will be built like KNH, Upperhill etc.
v) BRT as implemented in other cities may not be needed or may be introduced in very few areas of Nairobi, but more high capacity buses will be needed for CBD operations.
My Take: Rome was not built in a day. This is a major step towards a reliable and efficient commuter system within Nairobi metropolis.
