Wewe symon karanja be objective please na acha uongo hapa!...Nobody said Kidero won if anything its to the contrary...Waititu won that debate because he easily connects to the common people in Nairobi.

Personally I gave it to Waititu and still will vote for him given the opportunity despite his shenanigans. Kidero is too aloof to be in this thing. Period.

Businessman Jimnah Mbaru will now run for the Nairobi Governor post on an Alliance Party of Kenya (APK) ticket.

Mr Mbaru's name was in the list of candidates submitted by Energy minister Kiraitu Murungi's APK to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Wednesday.

He lost The National Alliance (TNA) primaries to former Embakasi MP Ferdinand Waititu after which he joined APK.

Mr Mbaru polled 5,776 votes against Mr Waititu's 26,280 votes, according to contested results released by the party.

Mr Mbaru lodged a complaint against Mr Waititu but the dispute is yet to be resolved.

An APK national official said Mr Mbaru joined the party on January 18, the day the TNA nominations were held.

However, Mr Mbaru is yet to name his running mate.

The new development also came as Narc, a partner in the Jubilee coalition, cleared a 26- year-old accountant to run for the governor.

Jeff Kobia, a former Strathmore University student was working for a corporate organisation before he quit to join the race.

Mr Kobia has named Kasarani women leader Wanjiku Mwangi as his running mate.

Ms Mwangi lost to former Nominated MP Rachel Shebesh in the race for TNA's Nairobi Women Representative ticket.

Mr Mbaru and Mr Kobia will battle it out with Mr Waititu, Cord's candidate Evans Kidero and Ford People's Eric Mokua.

TNA moves to block Mbaru from city post

The National Alliance party has written to the electoral commission to stop an entrepreneur from contesting the Nairobi governor's seat on the Alliance Party of Kenya ticket.

TNA told the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) that Mr Jimnah Mbaru was a member of the party and was making a mockery of the spirit and letter of the elections laws.

"We urge the IEBC to bar Mr Mbaru from contesting during the General Election as his defection to APK is illegal and the party (APK) cannot nominate him as a candidate after the closure of the nominations period," said Mr Jasper Mbiuki, TNA's secretary legal affairs in a protest letter to the commission.

Clear laws

He said the law was clear that no individual could change parties after January 18, a day after parties held their primaries.

"We also urge that severe sanctions be meted out against both Mr Mbaru and APK for their flagrant flouting of the law and their naked disregard and contempt for the rules and procedures that govern political party activities in Kenya," Mr Mbiuki continued.

He asserted that Mr Mbaru was a member of TNA and could not, therefore, seek office on another party's ticket.

"This position is emphatically stated under the Election Act and the Political Parties Act and is in fact an offence under that Act to do as Mr Mbaru intends," he said.

"Mr Mbaru is nowhere near the permissible period and indeed has not even resigned from TNA. Consequently, the APK is legally barred from validly nominating Mr Mbaru," noted Mr Mbiuki.

But APK secretary-general Beatrice Iraki said Mr Mbaru filed his papers with the party on January 18 within the deadline. "He defected on the same day in a letter sent and acknowledged by TNA officials," Ms Iraki said.

APK defends Mbaru bid for city top job

By Moses Njagih

Energy Minister Kiraitu Murungi-led Alliance Party of Kenya (APK) appears headed for a political collision with TNA after the former maintained business magnate Jimnah Mbaru would contest the Nairobi gubernatorial position.

APK yesterday dismissed claims by TNA that Mbaru, who lost in primaries against Ferdinand Waititu, should not be allowed by IEBC to contest for defecting after the deadline.

“We do not go by what TNA says. Their sentiments are not correct. If we were wrong, IEBC would have barred us from presenting his name as our candidate,” said Kiraitu.

He added: “Jimnah’s move to APK was within the law and his name was submitted to IEBC within the required time.”

Kiraitu told TNA to prepare for a bruising battle, saying APK would support Mbaru’s campaigns. He hailed their candidate as the best person for the position of the Nairobi Governor.

“The development of the capital city will be very secure in the hands of this entrepreneur. He has all the qualities for the management of our capital,” said Kiraitu at the party’s headquarters.

Nairobi TNA candidates reject Waititu, vow to "seek options".

Candidates selected in the recently concluded nominations to run for various seats in Nairobi under The National Alliance (TNA) have rejected their governorship candidate.

The candidates and the losers in the nominations rejected the outgoing Embakasi MP Ferdinand Waititu and said they were considering "other options".

The winners and losers in the nominations heckled and booed the former MP on Monday night at a meeting called by the party at Sagret Hotel in Milimani, Nairobi.

Party leader and Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta boycotted the meeting called by party officials via Short Messages Service (SMS). The aspirants had arrived at the hotel as early as 6pm. The message had asked them to be prompt, as the meeting would start at 7pm. By midnight, Mr Kenyatta had not showed up. His aides were seen conversing in low tones as angry aspirants said the party had "wasted their time".

The aspirants had responded to an SMS sent by Secretary General Onyango Oloo to meet at the hotel in the evening.

According to sources within the party, Mr Kenyatta was to address the candidates and the losers in an effort to forge a united front in the city against an onslaught by their competitors, The Coalition of Reform and Democracy (CORD).

The candidates shouted slogans in support of Mr Jimnah Mbaru, who lost to Mr Waititu in the primaries held on January 18.

According to TNA Nairobi organising Secretary, Caroline Mwaniki, the aspirants had felt disappointed by Mr Kenyatta's failure to show up. She said the appearance of Mr Waititu, who the aspirants felt had won in a controversial nomination process only helped to work them up.

Mr Geoffrey Muya, the chairman of Vijana Tuko Pamoja, one of the major lobbies registered to campaign for Mr Kenyatta's presidential bid, said the party's presidential campaigns were doing badly in the city.

"These candidates want to be involved in the presidential campaigns. When you call them and fail to turn up when their rivals are all over town, they have every reason to feel disappointed," Mr Muya told Nation.

He said the party was making a mistake to assume "Nairobi was safe", when their rivals were running organised campaigns for bioth the gubernatorial and presidential campaigns.

The Central Ward TNA candidate Julius Mwaniki said the party's candidates expected a dialogue that would "consolidate their support against their opponents".

"Unfortunately, we are not seeing collective support for all TNA candidates. Nairobi needs serious work," said Mr Mwaniki, a former PNU Nominated Councillor.

The Embakasi North TNA candidate Mwangi Gakuya doubted if it is Mr Kenyatta who had called for the meeting. "We are not sure our presidential candidate called us here because we did not expect him to miss such a meeting. It was a priority meeting," said Mr Gakuya.

According to the organisers, the meeting was called to iron out the differences that emerged in the primaries ahead of a mammoth road show in the city on Tuesday.

None of the party officials who had called the meeting was available to respond to the candidates' queries. Most whiled away their time at the hotel hoping Mr Kenyatta would finally show up. He did not. They turned down an offer by Mr Waititu to refund them their transport.

Bila shaka atakua mkikuyu huyo, utagombea TNA kwenye jiji kubwa kama hilo bila kutoka ile mkoa wa kati? Na hiki ni kitu hawa jamaa wamepungukiwa. Wana kila kitu, wakishinda hizi siasa za ukabila, watafika mbali.

Businessman Jimnah Mbaru has been cleared to contest the Nairobi Governor post on the Alliance Party of Kenya (APK) ticket.

Mr Mbaru was given the go ahead by the electoral commission to vie in the March 4 polls Friday and named Ahmed Ibrahim 'Johnny' as his running mate.

He will fight it out with The National Alliance (TNA) candidate Ferdinand Waiititu and Orange Democratic Movement's Evan Kidero.

Mr Mbaru defected to Energy Minister Kiraitu Murungi's APK party after he disputed the TNA primaries in which Mr Waititu was declared winner.

"If you keep looking behind, you will never reach where you are going," Mr Mbaru said in response to why he ditched TNA.

"Right now, we are celebrating the IEBC nomination and moving forward."

Mr Mbaru said he will embark on a "radical approach to change the city of Nairobi" using a speedy and efficient programme to address real problems affecting Nairobi "which by implication affects the whole country".

He said the immediate problems facing Nairobi residents include urban poverty, insecurity and unemployment.

Mr Mbaru said he will base his approach on three pillars.

Firstly, he will move to create opportunity for city residents by turning Nairobi into Africa’s business capital. His second pillar would be to double the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Nairobi.

Thirdly, he will address insecurity.

Mr Mbaru said he will create a fund that will enable women and youth to borrow against it and start their own businesses.

The APK candidate promised that his campaigns will be issue-based and he will not dwell on attacking opponents.

let mbaru spend the hard earned money to use. it is naive to think Kenyans will worship anyone in regard of their money. That however is the wrong perception to think money is everything, we should all talk on the platform of who is able to deliver. Those that think their money can make them ascend to power it seems they never learn. Let them seek or consult one simeon nyachae's advice who earnesly campaigned using his money in 2002 but ended up in the political wilderness...

I wanna ask you a candid question, who between Jimnah and Waititu is fit to run Nairobi?
