As if basketball is only about chucking 3-pointers!!
Unasema tuu kafanya revolution lakini husemi ni ya aina gani?
AbaMukulu, here's a little story...
Once upon a time, a basketball game took place between two rival teams all vying for a
WC title and a
ticket that would take them to the
NBA 2018/2019 finals for championship title. Up to that time the two teams were tied 3-3 and this game was the ultimate decider as to who proceeds...it was game
7 of the series.
Perhaps it was fitting that Game 7 between the
Warriors and the
Houston Rockets was played in Houston because it was a bit like something out of the Old West.
Jimmy the Beard and his
Rockets rode into town in their black hats jerseys and seemed to say they were going to be running things in this
wild west.
By halftime, the
Rockets were up by eleven points as they looked like the better team through the first half. The
Warriors looked overwhelmed out of sorts while the
Rockets looked like the team with all the championship experience after two quarters of this deciding game.
But then a man rode into town. He came in on his white horse,
his (three-point) guns blazing. He wasn’t going to let these newcomers just run him and his
posse (the term used in the
wild west-sense and
not in the Phil-Jackson-talking-about-LeBron sense) out of town. That man was
Stephen Curry, here to save the day once again...
...he did and the rest is history!
AbaMukulu, are you still with me? Here's some more...
Steph Curry is not only the
face of 3-point revolution, he is the face of
new era Basketball! Let me take you back to the
NBA 2015 championships! That year there wasn't a single Warriors player among the top 100 participating in the league and nobody, I repeat nobody gave the Warriors any chance of ever lifting the title.
Guess what dude? Even after finishing the regular season with a 67-15 record (2nd all time) nobody still gave them a chance. Do you even know how the term
splash brothers came to be? Even their coach
Steven Kerr, who once played alongside the legendary
Michael Jordan of
Chicago Bulls admitted what he was witnessing was beyond belief!
Even the great coach
Phil Jackson who led
Chicago Bulls and later the
LA Lakers found himself speechless for he had been one of those who never encouraged the 3-pt shots. And it took him sometime to accept the fact that the game had changed and so tactics had to change too...all because of one tiny individual,
Steph Curry of
GSW.
Somebody has had the nerve to call
Steph Curry a mediocre, really? I am sure that somebody must be a Tanzanian for where else would you find anybody with a mindset like that. I dare him make that statement on twitter and see the reaction from
homo sapiens with senses...I mean people who recognize talent when they see it.
Everybody, everywhere, every size, every gender...know 3-pt shot is the ultimate
weapon. The Rockets knew it and kept on trying in spite of
one miss after another (
0-27!) The Gordons, the Loves, the Oladipos, the Lilards and even the king himself
LBJ all recognise the satisfaction accompanying that long range missile when it strikes...
... thanks to that baby-faced assassin
Steph Curry and his twin brother
Klay Thompson and their cousin
KD!
