I am not so sure which changes to the rules turned the game of Basketball into the so called soft NBA and when exactly they were introduced. But from the little I know any changes that have taken place over the years, I guess changes that are most blamed in this regard are those made in 2000-02, am I right? Let's start by going through those changes and how they might have affected the game. Here goes...


2000-01

  1. If a player is fouled when he has a clear-path-to-the-basket, he gets one free throw and his team gets possession of the ball at midcourt. Previously, the player received two free throws.
  2. No contact with either hands or forearms by defenders except in the front court below the free throw line extended in which case the defender may use his forearm only.
  3. Neither the offensive player nor the defender will be allowed to dislodge or displace a player who has legally obtained a position.
  4. Defender may not use his forearm, shoulder, hip or hand to reroute or hold-up an offensive player going from point A to Point B or one who is attempting to come around a legal screen set by another offensive player.
  5. Slowing or impeding the progress of the screener by grabbing, clutching, holding “chucking” or “wrapping up” is prohibited.
  6. A five-second count will begin if an offensive player with the ball and not facing-up starts dribbling below the free throw line extended while being closely guarded or starts dribbling outside and then penetrates below the free throw line extended while being closely guarded. (The five-second count commences when the offensive player penetrates the free throw line extended). After five seconds, a violation will have occurred and the offensive team will lose possession.
  7. The shot clock shall remain as it is or be recycled to 14 seconds if it is below 14 for a common foul requiring no free throw attempts occurs, kicked or punched ball violation, or an illegal defense requiring no free throw attempts.
  8. On the strongside, any defense is legal.
  9. On the weakside, defenders must remain on the weakside outside the paint unless (i) they are double-teaming the ball, (ii) picking up a free cutter or (iii) closely guarding an offensive player.

2001-2002
  1. Illegal defense guidelines will be eliminated in their entirety.
  2. A new defensive three-second rule will prohibit a defensive player from remaining in the lane for more than three consecutive seconds without closely guarding an offensive player.
  3. The time that a team has to advance the ball past midcourt will be reduced from ten seconds to eight.
  4. Brief contact initiated by a defensive player will be allowed if it does not impede the progress of the player with the ball.

Aliona kabisa kwamba hapa wametokea vijana wanaoweza kabisa kuandika historia mpya na juzi wamefanya hivyo tutake tusitake.

Haya yote yananikumbusha mchezo wa Ice Hockey...wako mashabiki wake ambao kama hawakuona ngumi uwanjani wanadai mchezo haupendezi na haunogi.

NBA approves on-jersey advertising program
The NBA announced Friday that the board of governors has approved a three-year pilot program to allow teams to sell a corporate logo on their jerseys.

Teams can now start pitching companies on buying a 2.5-inch-by-2.5-inch space as the NBA becomes the first of the four major U.S. sports leagues to put ads on regular game-day jerseys.
The first season of the program will be in 2017-18, which will also be the first season that Nike makes the NBA's uniforms after taking over from Adidas. The Adidas logo is not currently on game jerseys.

With A good number of people(fans,legends,media and other stakeholders) opposing this move,The decision has been approved,pending implementation.
One of many changes done and yet to be done that will always face negative criticism by some people.
