The former Deputy speaker, Job Ndungai has been sworn in as the new Speaker of Parliament earlier today.
Ndungai, who will lead the 11[SUP]th[/SUP] parliament of Tanzania, won by a total of 254 votes out of 365 and defeated eight other candidates from different political parties. Ole Medeye of CHADEMA got the second spot after he secured 109 votes. The remaining six candidates didn?t collect any vote.
The president is expected to address the parliament on Thursday evening, an event that will be preceded by MPs voting to approve the proposed Prime minister.
