SWALA Energy Limited has reported preliminary positive results of 2D seismic programme over the Kidatu basin area in the Morogoro Region.

The oil and gas company said in a statement that the 2D seismic programme over the area has been completed and the preliminary interpretation of the results is positive.

“The results from the Kidatu survey have shown the potential for large structural traps, an encouraging result and one that underscores our team’s geological understanding of the area,” Dr David Mestres Ridge, the Chief Executive Officer of Swala Energy Limited said in the statement.

“Whilst additional processing and interpretation of the recorded data is still needed, the positive results to date give us growing confidence in our continued exploration activities within the Kilosa-Kilombero Licence,” he added.

These results follow those observed from the programme in the Kilosa basin to the north that was also positive as announced on 18th September, 2013.

The seismic survey has now commenced over the Kilombero basin, south of the Kidatu basin. Swala has an indirect 32.5 per cent interest in the licence.

A total of 143km of 2D seismic were acquired over the Kidatu basin. The initial results based on preliminary processed data indicate the presence of large scale structure along the edges of the basin together with a major intra-basin high identified on dip and strike lines. The structure may be as large as 30 to 60 square kilometres.

it sound like good news but I'm less optimistic based on previous experience. Ever since i was born Williamson diamond has been taking diamond from Mwadui, but the wellbeing of dwellers around the mines are indisputably desperate, the same applies to Barick gold mines, Buzwagi just to mention the few.

This experience is not confined in Tanzania, in Nigeria People of the Niger delta where the large deposit of oil is found are experiencing the hardship from environmental degradation to extreme poverty.

Could you tell us the different approach your govt is going to put in place so that we can start at least to cheer?

Remember, we didn't have the capacity to explore ourselves and we do not have the capacity to produce ourselves. What do you expect? those who explore and those who will produce will do it for free?
