In a joint operation, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) have impounded 153 pieces of sound equipment from entertainment venues across the city’s five divisions.
The move targets persistent violators of noise regulations and aims to safeguard public health and residential tranquility.
The enforcement action, conducted on June 12, 2026, covered Nakawa, Kawempe, Makindye, Rubaga, and Central divisions.
Authorities affected a total of nine facilities, primarily bars and entertainment spots accused of emitting noise beyond permissible levels.
According to authorities, the crackdown is intended to protect public health and ensure compliance with environmental regulations. Excessive noise has been linked to a range of health concerns, including stress, sleep disturbances, hearing impairment, and reduced quality of life for residents living near entertainment venues.
NEMA and KCCA warned venue owners and event organizers to adhere to the prescribed noise limits and obtain the necessary permits before conducting activities that may generate excessive sound.
