London (CNN)World leaders and political figures will not be invited in their official capacities to the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the UK royal family announced Tuesday.
Former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle, who are close to the couple, will not be attending, a royal source said.
CNN understands that some world leaders may be invited on the basis of their personal relationships with Harry and Markle, making it unlikely that US President Donald Trump would be asked to attend.
A Kensington Palace spokesman said: "It has been decided that an official list of political leaders -- both UK and international -- is not required for Prince Harry and Ms. Markle's wedding."
"Her Majesty's Government was consulted on this decision, which was taken by the royal household."
