Funny I am complaining that the Kenyan govt seems to be apathetic towards very clear EAC issues, yet you equate my complain to Tz's govt complains on EAC. Everyone knows even if they don't say it, that Kenya has given soo much to the EAC, as a tax payer I am very dignified to complain. Your govt though gives almost zero yet it is ever complaining.

Political stability in Tanzania vs Political instability in Kenya. Never underestimate that when it comes to investment.

uganda hakuna mahali wanaenda,m7 ni kijicho tu anapoona kenya ikitamba noma.hawa wabongo ni hadithi tu.yao yaanza lini, mganda nani ata mfund kaa sio mchina.

Uganda and Kenya seeking SGR funds in China

By Lucie Morangi | China Daily Africa | Updated: 2017-02-26 15:06
Finance ministers from Kenya and Uganda are set to travel to China at the end of this month to negotiate financing for the construction of a cross-border railway.

In a move that would transform the East African infrastructure landscape, the delegation - which will include the transportation ministers of both countries - will present proposals to the China Export Import Bank, an institution that has largely financed similar big projects in Africa.

According to Kenya's Finance Ministry, a letter outlining the two countries' intent to jointly pursue the implementation of the Nairobi-Malaba-Kampala Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) has already been dispatched to Kampala for signatures. The letter, also copied to the Chinese Finance Ministry and the Export-Import Bank of China, requests a joint visit to China from Feb 27 to March 4.

Acknowledging this move, Jackson Kinyanjui, director of the resource mobilization department, that serves as liaison with development partners, says China continues to be the preferred financier because it doesn't have the bureaucratic hurdles presented by other development partners.

"China's financing model fits us very well. It is tied to aid, and the loans are concessional. But the bureaucracies of other development partners disrupt absorption and hence push back the commencement and completion of government projects," Kinyanjui says.

The construction of the SGR will be undertaken by Chinese firms.

"We are soliciting funds for the implementation of the Naivasha-Kisumu-Malaba-Kampala SGR. We intend to have it completed within 42 months," he adds.

The 609-kilometer Mombasa-Nairobi project undertaken by China Road and Bridge Corp is near completion and set to be commissioned on May 1 by President Uhuru Kenyatta. Moreover, construction work for the 120-km Nairobi-Naivasha section has been launched, buoying the two countries' optimism that China will approve the solicited funds.

"For us to embark on this leg, China needed clear justification that Uganda is committed to the project, whereas our neighbor also needs assurances that we are on board to extend the tracks from the lakeside city of Kisumu to the border town of Malaba. The joint delegation has the approval of the two presidents, thus providing this mission the needed political commitment," Kinyanjui says.

The railway promises to see Uganda, a landlocked country, receive its cargo from the port of Mombasa in a timely and less costly manner. Transporting a 20-ton container from Mombasa to Nairobi by road costs $1,300, while a similar container from Mombasa to Kampala costs $3,400. The cost is $6,500 to Kigali. The Kenyan port is part of China's One Belt, One Road initiative, which aims to deepen global trade relations.

A feasibility study on the Kenyan leg has yet to be done. Uganda, on the other hand has completed its studies and awarded the contract to China Harbor Engineering Co. It is estimated the 273-km project will cost $2.3 billion.

China leads other countries in the funding and building of mega projects in the East Africa region, according to an annual report released by Deloitte, a global consulting company. The report shows that China funded 10 out of a total of 43 projects in 2016. It built 18 of them.

The SGR is expected to be extended to Rwanda's Kigali city from Kampala, and then to Juba in South Sudan.

Sometimes its better to accept changes before the changes change you.......

Kenyans 've never been a super power of this region as you ar always takin yourself for...

Kenya grew in the expense of other countries in this region and therefore non of them can grow without affecting z economic supremacy of Kenya....

Ask yourself these questions!!!...

if Tanzania and Rwanda manages to operate their national airlines successfully, which country in this region will be highly affected???....

If Tanzania will realize the dream of being an industrialized country, which country will be more affected???....

if Tanzania manages to market itself interms of Tourism especially the northern circuit which is heavly depended, which country is likely to be more affected????.....

If Tanzania manages to operate Tanga port at its full capacity, which country is likely to be more affected????.....

maswali ni mengi lakini hii ni hali isiyoepukika..... you cant avoid the effects of our expanding economies since you initially grew at our own expenses au mnaiita sleeping Giant....

The only competitive advantage you have got is only a competitive labour force that is even increasing at a decreasing rate......

Ongezeni juhudi kwenye FDI's tu though haiwezi generate enough money to run your economy

Tobaaa
Kenya will definitely benefit from all you have said. We operate businesses all over EA, the more we grow the more we make money.
I think the problem of Tanzania is that you believe for you to grow Kenya has to slump. That is the most stupid thing ever, nobody benefits from poor neighbors, poverty in every sense is bad for business, insecurity, low purchasing power... the list is long.
For instance the S.Sudan issue, you think Kenya and Uganda are comfortable seeing their monies going to the drain.
What most of you think is that Mombasa port serves our neighbors more, Most of the goods coming and going out through Mombasa are Kenyan's, build your port, Let the most efficient Corridor win. What I hate is this bad blood, and outright drag down business. Imagine a well connected EA, where there is free movement of goods and people. We will certainly improve the lives of everyone. Why Tz has not grasped this yet, is beyond me. You guys do business looking at what Kenya is doing, forgetting that Kenya actually has a plan, and every project will be implemented no matter what, since we need it.

Kenya is the leading investor in the countries you mentioned, the more they develop the more Kenya gains. Secondly, when a region develops, it looks further than its neighbours, when Tanzania develops and produces the producst it is getting from Kenya, Kenya will look for other markets say liberia, with this, Kenya will have to fly its planes to these places expanding its catch even more.

In simple, when German developed, France did not die off, when England developed, Scotland never died off, the developing of a neighboring country doesn't and has never spelt doom to its neighboring country, so Tanzania should not think that when it starts developing Kenya will suffer, never. When you reach where Kenya is, Kenya will be on another.

Recent economic war btn tz and kenyans has been much more increased soon after magufuli took power... it seems after ten years Tanzanians will be a bit far economically... my friend kenyans you should keep peace first then you will have a room to look for economic oportunities... I pray for you to have peaceful election and let all those of 2007 as history

The day you will learn that Tanzania does not envy you and we do what we think is best for our future and not in a view of dethroning kenya as an economic super power of our region....

what is a use of that at the first place????.....

Just ask yourself... whats the best between having high GDP, high HDI or high FDI????......

An average Tanzanian in exception of the northeners doesnt even know the pontetualinty of Kenya in our region and even our experts doesnt view Kenya as a green pasture compared to SADDC....

Your degree of importance is only existing within your heads and even if you are the leading African investors in our country but how much do you contribute to our economy compared to the indegineous investors such as mo dewji or bakhresa group company????...

As a matter of the fact that our private sector is expanding and therefore reduces the importance of the public sector which have boosted our competitive advantage compared to the previous years

KeMzalendo wizi na ukabila ndo una-undermine that Kenyan dream. Haki ya Mungu UK hatoboi mwaka huu. Unaonaje. .?
Tangu tungoe moi madarakani, we don't mind who becomes president. Ile vision 2030 lazima itimizwe by whoever takes over. Devolution naya itazidi kukomaa. In another 5 years, this will be a totally different country if the last 4 years is anything to go by.
You know the sgr, tallest building in Africa etc are only manifestation of what's going on at the grassroot.
Whether Uhuru wins or not, I expect the SEZ in dongo kundu and naivasha to be complete by 2022, the coal power plant to be up and running, konza to be at least 50% done, the crude oil pipeline should be fully functional. Lamu port to have at 6 berths: exporting crude oil and importing coal for amu project.
Man, the next 5 years we could see our first double digit economic growth in over 3 decades
