A section of legislators allied to Deputy President William Ruto have accused ODM leader Raila Odinga of instigating a plan to impeach him.
Speaking to the press at Parliament buildings, the MPs further lashed out at Siaya Senator James Orengo accusing him of being Mr. Odinga’s gun for hire.
Led by Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, the legislators dared Mr. Odinga and his allies to present a motion of impeachment further eluding confidence that it would not see the light of day.
“What Orengo is doing, it’s actually Raila doing it… When they say they are bringing an impeachment motion it’s because Raila knows he can never get power through the ballot so he wants to get it through the back door… Kenya is a democracy, Raila if you want to be President present yourself to the people of Kenya,” said MP Nyoro.
On his part, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa accused the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) of a greater plan to overthrow the government and not only DP Ruto.
“They have a history of planning doom to those they are in partnership with… The war on corruption was connived, now they have seen it is not working so now they have gone for impeachment,” said MP Barasa.
Raila we respect you but you but you have become a fraudster and a conman…” he added.
Kuria West MP Mathias Nyamabe threw his weight behind DP Ruto saying that he had a lot of support in Parliament and will counter the impeachment motion.
“We want to tell you DP Ruto is an enigma, he has about 90% of MPs in Parliament,” said South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro.
While rubbishing corruption allegations against DP Ruto, Laikipia Woman Representative Catherine Waruguru noted that no arrests have been made against the DP so far. She also threatened to expose the former Prime Minister if he continues with his alleged plot.
The Ruto-allied MPs spoke as the impeachment motion against Dr. Ruto, championed by Mr. Orengo, heats up.
Mr. Orengo said he will rally both ODM and Jubilee Party legislators in both Houses of Parliament to back his impeachment motion.
The Siaya Senator accuses DP Ruto of refusing the resign in the wake of corruption allegations leveled against him.
Odinga and Ruto have been trading angry accusations and counter-accusations in a fierce political duel triggered by the ongoing war against corruption and the close partnership between President Uhuru Kenyatta and the opposition leader.
The Deputy President and his allies claim Mr. Odinga is out to wreck the Jubilee boat from within and scuttle Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.
