Prominent retired politician, Mr Peter Kisumo, has refuted reports by a local newspaper that he criticized Same MP, Mrs Anne Kilango Malecelas statement she made in parliament regarding the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) External Payment Account (EPA) saga.
In a statement released yesterday, Mr Kisumo said he is seeking advice from his counsel on what legal action to take against the newspaper, Tanzania Daima, and the author of the story. I have never called a press conference where I lashed out at Mrs Malecela
I know the legislator and I have respect on her capabilities in and outside Parliament, he said.
He further said that the author of the article, Mr Charles Ndagulla, had never interviewed him and wondered where he came up with the material published in the newspaper. The article, he said, has surprised him and the fact that it was reported by only one person and not the other reporters who were at the said press conference serves to prove that the article was a fabrication.
I remember giving an exclusive interview to a reporter from Mwananchi newspaper on July 27 and we talked about issues concerning the union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar. During the interview, the reporter, Mr Daniel Mjema was alone, he said. He said that the day before, the United Nations Deputy Secretary General, Dr Asha Rose Migiro, paid him a courtesy call and she was accompanied by several journalists and Mr Ndagulla was one of them.
However, Mr Kisumo said on that particular day he never talked to the journalist and had a private conversation with Dr Migiro who had gone to console him over the death of his wife. How could it be possible that such a serious matter was not be reported by other newspapers? he queried. He also said that he has never talked about an intention by CCMs General Assembly delegate Aggrey Marealle, to run for a parliamentary seat as reported by the newspaper.
Mr Marealle has never talked about his interest in running for the Moshi Urban seat and the party has not nominated him, how can I oppose something that is yet to happen? I am a loyal member of CCM and will support any candidate the party nominates, he said. The newspaper reported in its August 4 edition that Mr Kisumo had said that Mrs Malecela is embarrassing the ruling CCM for being outspoken in Parliament about the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) External Payment Account (EPA) saga. The paper reported that Mr Kisumo had accused Mrs Malecela for performing the functions of opposition MPs while she is a legislator on the CCM ticket.
