A Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) candidate, Joshua Okwir Kaka, has died after the motorcycle carrying him and two classmates to their examination centre was forced off a dilapidated road in Lira District on Tuesday morning.
Kaka, a pupil at Begomary Primary School, was travelling to Ober Primary School, their designated examination centre, when an unidentified vehicle reportedly forced their motorcycle off the road about 200 metres from their destination.
He sustained severe injuries and died shortly after being transferred to Lira Regional Referral Hospital.
Lira District Inspector of Schools, Patrick Olwit, confirmed the death, saying the pupil was in critical condition.
The two other candidates also sustained injuries. Joshua Ogwang Oyugi suffered a serious head injury and remains admitted at Rapa Health Centre, while Kizito Elwa sustained minor injuries but managed to sit his morning paper after receiving first aid.
